Course Curriculum Overview
The reason I opted for ECE over CSE is cause of the large boom or high prospective of the semi-conductor industry observed world wide. S.R.M has an excellent ECE department compared to the other colleges, with excellent lab facilities that can help in research and your own projects. The faculty could be a little more friendly and the cyclic tests a bit more spread apart in frequency to help with preparation time.
Internships Opportunities
You can opt for internships during your semester breaks, or approach your FA for advice, I advice you to opt for internships as they give you an idea of a workspace and sheds light on the latest industry trends
Placement Experience
S.R.M does offer campus placements and almost all major companies including Amazon, H.P, do visit. Along with them companies such as pwc, EY, KPMG also do visit. The placements are average and you can sit for interviews outside the campus as well if you choose not to sit for campus placements. Campus placements are mostly dependent on your CGPA and you can only sit for certain companies if you maintain a 9pointer.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees for the ECE department (Electronics and Communication Engineering) is 2,50,000 rupees per year. The fee differs for each department with the fee for CSE (Computer Science Engineering) being 4,50,000 which is the highest of the lot. S.R.M univeristy offers a whole universe of oppurtunities for its students, including merit based scholarships which can be reffered to on their official website.
Campus Life
The campus infrastructure is amazing. It is a buzzling 300acre campus with a lot to offer. S.R.M has excellent sports facilities with 3 basketball courts, a 400m track, gymnasium, 2 college pools, indoor badminton courts etc There are two major fests on campus which is the Aarush technofest which is one of the largest in the country and Milan which is the cultural fest. Aarush is one of the largest clubs on campus and offer excellent oppurtunities to for you to develop your skills. All classrooms are smart classrooms with excellent facilities.
Hostel Facilities
The hostels when I was in it was not upto standards. There are 4 first year hostels of which only one had attached washrooms and A.C rooms. The fee for the A.C hostels are quite high which was not worth it. The mess food was okay, and served non-veg twice a week. The hostels are allotted based on first come first serve basis and is an online process done on the dates decided by the college. Renting a flat with friends or a pg outside seemed like a better option if you are a diciplined student.
Admission
I applied to V.I.T as well but when I started comparing both S.R.M and V.I.T, S.R.M seemed to give a better college expirience balanced with a good social life as well. Engineering was a last minitue decision for me and taking a year off seemed like a super big step that didn't seem worth it. In the end I chose S.R.M as it was less strict then V.I.T and gave just as many oppurtunities maybe more. It is ranked 13 on the NIRF ranking India
Faculty
There are about 60 students in a class (average count, differs with respect to the course you take) and each class is assigned a faculty advisor (class teacher equivalent in school). The faculty advisor is who you go to for most of your academic related queries, projects etc. How approchable your F.A depends on your luck entirely as I have heard equal shares of stories of them being extremly unapproachable and some being the friendliest person you'll ever meet. The final exams are out of 70 marks which is then converted to 40marks and the remaining 60 marks is taken from your class tests, so it is extremely important to focus on them. The grades you get on your finals determines your CGPA. The exams are fairly easy and is quite hard to fail to be honest. Even then there are a lot of people who fail
Other Applied Colleges
Vellore Institute of Technology - [VIT University] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Electronics & Communication Engineering)
S.R.M offers more exposure.
