Remarks
The placement cell needs to be more efficient, and they should bring in more companies, the college off late has lost its reputation as a college providing good placements just because of the inefficient placement cell.
Course Curriculum Overview
I can only comment on my stream, which is mechanical engineering, it was up to standards and we had 6 subjects and 4 Labs every semester. The first two semesters were general science, brushing up on 11th and 12th standard science. The engineering subjects started from 3rd semester.
Placement Experience
Placements may be the weakest link in FIEM, at least that's how it was during our time, this was a period when industry demand was a bit less, so we were told. But then about 70% students got placed in IT companies like Cognizant, Wipro, etc. only core companies were less, and salaries offered were not that good, so mechanical people chose to join IT companies instead
College Events
FIEM has a cultural society and we used to celebrate on a lot of occasions throughout the year, like Saraswati Puja, Holi, Rabindra Jayanti, teacher's day, cultural fests were quite big too and lots of Bollywood and tollywood movie stars and famous bands used to come.
Fee Structure And Facilities
fee structure I'm not sure with the exact figures as this was over a decade ago. but we had same semester fees for all the 8 semesters which was around 36000 rupees per semester. we had to pay additionally 14000 rupees as a security deposit during admission and a nominal library charge was also taken
Fees and Financial Aid
I have not opted for any scholarship programs. I did not apply for any educational loans for my engineering degree. but I am aware that FIEM has tie-ups with a few government and private banks for educational loans purpose should you require it.
Campus Life
Campus life was generally really good. I spent the best days of my life to date at my college. the gender ratio was like 4:5 and there were a lot of people nearly 50% coming from Bihar. robotics is a big thing in FIEM and there is a club called robot maniacs which teaches robotics for a nominal fee, they have good people there and encourage you to take part in tech fests and robotic competitions across the country
Alumni/Alumna
I am only in touch with people 2-3 years senior to me and they are really helpful and I have cordial relations with most of them, even after 6 years of passing out. In fact, one of my seniors helped me get a job a few years back.
Admission
I gave WBJEE entrance exam, my rank was 5000 and I went for counseling and got the option to do Mechanical Engineering in FIEM which was near to my home and had a good reputation especially in the mechanical department. So I went ahead and got admitted, the admission typically happens in the month of June
Faculty
The faculty is really good, they are helpful and the best thing is that the mechanical faculties are mostly from the industry, they have a minimum of 30 years of experience which is always good as they are updated with the industry. Faculties from purely educational backgrounds are more book-centric and have less industry knowledge. So I felt this is where the faculty at FIEM stands out.
