Hit or Miss experience

The college has a lot of potentials to be a very good one but the inefficient and complicated management is ruining the experience of the students and faculties alike. They are unnecessarily strict about the attendance in the college. Even if you have a genuine medical condition, it is very likely you can get debarred.

The curriculum is very appealing, especially given on the website, and is very much relevant to the course. One does get to know a lot of things which compels them to research. Amity has an NTCC (Non Teaching Credit Course), which carries a significant amount of credits. In this subject; the student has to select a topic relevant to the course, research on the topic based on the guidelines provided by the university and then present and a give viva based on the report. As much as one would think this course is practically based, the curriculum in the college has MORE weight for theory. The marks are divided into 3 sections; internal assessment (25%-30%), external assessment (60%-70%) and attendance (5%). The student has 95 marks in their hands, from a total of 100. Internal assessment or assignments, it can either provide the students a lot of learning experiences, creative freedom and stimulating environment which will help them to learn relevant skills or it can just be a write up which can be easily plagiarised and has that has to be submitted to the teacher, there is no in-between. External Assessment or the exams that take place towards the end of sem, just continuous the ridiculous Indian education system of mugging up everything a night before the exams and purging it on the paper. It provides no valuable skills, whatsoever, just strengthens the structure already set by the schools. Attendance carries 5 marks, it is in the hand of the teacher and the student has to be very careful with it as the attendance system is pretty strict. A day in Amity, can either be very chill or hectic, depending upon the assignments a student as, the clubs they are in, the events tey are organising etc.

There are no placements provided by the college for summer internships, the placements that are provided are towards the end of a student's course. 2-3 students from the class are selected as the placement coordinator, who works closely with the placement officer. It is their job to dispense the information about the upcoming placements to the students, generally through a common WhatsApp group. The companies that come for placements are mostly not so well known, mid-tier companies, but there have been some big corporations coming to the college for placements. Most of the placements are for jobs, with the stipend of 10k+. The placements generally have bad reviews from the students, but they can be used as practice interviews.

Many events are celebrated throughout the course of college. One of the biggest events being the Amity Fest, which for students goes on a month before the actual date is announced. Many competitions are organized in the fest, like a Fashion show, Dance Competitions, etc. The other biggest event in the college is Sangathan, it is an inter-college sports competition, many students perform in this fest and win awards based on what the won. Other than these two, the clubs and the departments have their own events that go on. Some or the other event goes on continuously in the college.

Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication(BJMC) is one of the most sought after courses at Amity University. It is offered in multiple variants to suit the needs of the aspirants. Invariably, Amity or any other university for that matter does not put up the semester-wise break down of the tuition fees for its courses, as every year it’s subject to change. However, the fee structure will be broken down in detail in your admission letter, mailed to you once you’re selected for the said course.

I haven't opted for any scholarship program. Many people scoring an aggregate of 90%+ in their 12th boards automatically gets a scholarship after the selection process. Applying for scholarships for the rest of the semesters one has to maintain a CGPA of 9.0+. Availing the scholarship is a very complicated process

The campus is very huge, there is an Arcadia and a food court with popular brands like Dominos and CCD having their outlets on the campus. The infrastructure is very good too but the greenery is not much. People on the campus are very chill and there are not many restrictions on the clothes a person can wear. The anti-ragging policy of the campus is very strict. The gender ratio in my course is almost equal. The labs are okay, they aren't that use the systems in the labs lags a lot but it is do-able, there is a whole event for sports. A lot of competitions are organized by the students themselves.

The alumni and seniors are very helpful, from my experience. It will be very helpful to have them in contact as they will be able to help you get close to the teachers and also get in the clubs they are part of.

I chose this course because I was interested in a lot of subjects and mass communication is a very diverse and varied course. It integrated a lot of my pre-existing interests, hence, I decided to opt for the course. Admission Process- The first step is to fill an application form provided on the website of the university, the cost of the Admission Form is Rs. 1,100 /-. An Application Form number and password is generated on the submission of the application form from which we can log on to the Admission Microsite on www.amity.edu by using the form number and password. Due to my aggregate being 80%+ in CBSE board exams, I did not have to give an interview or entrance exam because of the college policy. I started the admission process at the start of May and my admission was confirmed by the end of May.

The faculty, like my experience, is hit or miss. The college always has a shortage of faculties, so many faculties are teaching subjects which do not even pertain to the course they specialized in, leading to a very chaotic teaching experience as the faculty struggles with explaining concepts to the students which they don't understand themselves. In any college, it is very necessary to have a teacher whom a student can trust with the information in order to survive. The number of teachers for that very purpose is less, many teachers themselves are not aware of the rules and regulations of the college as the system is very complicated. Many of the old faculties have given up on the university and are fed up with it and the new faculties that join in are soon molded by the inefficiencies.
