Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The faculties, the teaching methods are very useful for me. They give notes in the class and clears the concept easily. Questions of the exams matches the class notes and explanations. Further hackathons, innovation hubs, think thank are organized for the students to express their ideas. Our teacher incharge is very helpful. We can get help from him regarding internship, new startup ideas, etc. The main semester occurs with a 6-month gap. And in the middle of the 6-month mid sem takes place. The difficulty level is moderate to hard but if prepared well one can achieve 9+ and even 10 gpa is not surprising.

Internships Opportunities

4

Student's can apply for internship in any of the company of their choice and the university will grant permission to them. Students can work in startups or in companies to gain experience for future

Placement Experience

3.5

From 3rd year that is 5th semester students can join internships in companies. Cognizant, IBM, TCS, Wipro, Haldia Petrochemical, Disney, Microsoft, and Amazon. The University of Calcutta has industrial collaborations with companies like TCS, Business Brio, NASSCOM, and IXIA Technologies. Placement percentage is around 85 because most of the students opt for higher education and phd. If i get a good job above 20lpa then I will go for it for the experience and if not that much salary I will opt for MTech or MBA...not yet decided.

Fees and Financial Aid

First of all University College of Science and Technology (University of Calcutta) , Salt Lake Campus is one of the best University for engineering. The fees is very less 6700 for the first semester including admission and around 5000 for semester 2 to 8. Total fees for 4yr Btech will be only 35000-40000. Since this is a Government University there is no such management quota. WBJEE rank under 300 will give you CSE directly in 1st round. Other than that the College also provides health insurance to the students studying here. Students can take the SVCM scholarships or any other scholarship. The faculties and staffs are very helpful and friendly so processing of the scholarships will not be a problem. Last but not the least, CU provides the best place for students to gain knowledge and learn high level concepts. One of the best Government Engineering University in West Bengal.

Campus Life

4.5

Physiyantrix is the tech fest by Applied Physics. Reflexons is the annual tech fest by Computer Science and Engineering department held around March - April. Almost everything is available in case of books and journals. The libraries are well furnished with vintage and modern fusion furnitures. Online library is also available for free. Smart classrooms with projectors and air conditioning. Near Technology Campus there is KC ground where students can play cricket , football etc. Indoor games like table tennis facility is also available. Debate club, Robotics club, Esports club, Outdoor games club, Chess club, Coding club etc are there.

Admission

I tried IIT by JEE mains but couldn't crack. Then i started preparing well for WBJEE and got 48 rank. So I got directly admission in Round 1 of WBJEE counselling. This is a Government so people with good ranks will be able to take higher streams here. JU was also a good option for me because I was eligible for bothe the colleges but still I choose CU due to some environmental reasons inside the campus of CU which is better than JU. In order to take admission here in B.TECH course one need to seat for the WBJEE and get a GMR around 1000 to get CSE for state quota candidates. Outside candidates must have below 300 rank for better chance is CSE. Other than that category candidates can get good streams with a slightly lower rank but here no management quota is possible. Students should also have 60% in Phy, Chem, and Maths in 10+2 combined to be eligible for counselling here. My admission experience was very smooth. I got this in my 1st round only for my rank. So all the best to everyone

Faculty

4

There will 10 faculties for 500 students. 1:50 ratio roughly. The students never hesitates to ask questions to the faculties as they are very helpful and friendly. The faculties will always take the initiative to solve your doubts and problems on a particular topic. One can also mail them for further communications. I wont name them. But maths ma'am, physics sir and engineering drawing sir are one of the best professors. One will be shocked by their simplicity and knowledge. So here 2 semester takes place in a year. But before the 2 semesters 2 mid sems also take place. 70 marks is for the main semester exam and around 30 is for mid sem. Total 100 and another 40-50 marks is for practical. This is the normal breakdown. Overall I can say 100 Theory + 40-50 Practical = 140-150 marks each semester. The papers are not that much hard. But yes if one prepares well they can even get full 10 gpa and if not well prepared it will be a problem to get above 6.

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
