Course Curriculum Overview

3

The course curriculum is very comprehensive but fails to be relevant. In the course 3 years, the syllabus explores almost every major subfield in physics, yet throughout the course, the industrial applications of these subjects is very rarely brought up. So, what ends up happening is the students gain a lot of knowledge but fail to implement that knowledge effectively. I feel the curriculum should be more research oriented, teaching students the field, its implications and the ongoing research. I think this will help the students find a perspective on what they are learning and why. Exams are held every semester (Dec and June),while internals are conducted as per the professors wishes. The exams have a certain pattern to them, making it fairly easy to prepare fore them. Around 1 month of preparation is more than enough to score well in the exams.

Fees and Financial Aid

I'm currently studying in the 2nd year of my course, therefore I only know about the fee structure of 1st and 2nd year at Ramjas. Fees are paid on an annual basis, generally at the start of the academic year. My first year fee was around Rs16000 and my 2nd year fee is around Rs18000. Additionally, in each semester an exam fee of Rs2000 is also collected. Since, Ramjas comes under DU which is a central university, there are fee concessions for reserved category candidates as per UGC guidelines. Also, every national level government scholarship scheme is accepted. Also, it must be noted that if one chooses to take more lab heavy subjects as their electives, their fees will be around Rs1000-Rs2000 more costly than average. For foreign students the annual fees can reach an upwards of Rs40000. Overall, since its a government college, the fees are very affordable. There are no addtional charges than the ones I've mentioned.

Campus Life

4

Well the biggest annual event is Mosaic, our college fest. Generally the months of March and April are known for the many fests and events being organised, not just in Ramjas but throughout DU. Each society of the college also have their own events, which are also organised in the same time period. The library is very accessible to all students, one must only show their ID card before entering. The collection of books is massive and vast covering a multitude of subjects. Not a lot of electronic facilities can be found in the classrooms but the college does have a fully equipped computer lab. Almost every major sport is played in Ramjas. Ramjas is a haven for sports enthusiasts, with Ramjas participating in almost every major inter collegiate tournaments. There are many student run societies and clubs, that every student is free to join if the please. Some clubs do however have a selection process to become a member of said clubs. These societies provide a constructive pastime to me.

Admission

I had applied to many colleges including all the IISERs, NISER and some other research institutes. I failed to get into these research institutes due to not clearing the cut off in the entrance exams. However I did get into 3 colleges, Ramjas College (DU), Fergusson College (SPPU) and in IDSS (SPPU). I attended IDSS for a month before moving to Delhi. I mainly chose to leave it due there being a very small batch size and non existant lab facilities. After getting my CUET result , I decided to choose Ramjas, since it offered a much more vibrant student environment and more networking opportunities. To get admission into Ramjas, one must first give the CUET exam. The cutoff for Ramjas goes at around 400/600 (PCM), for general category students. For the reserved categories, cutoffs go even lower.

Faculty

4

The faculty to student ratio at Ramjas is around one professor for every 15 students. Ramjas has a lot of departments, therefore the Faculty strength is also fairly high. For Physics I can say that Devi sir is a very good teacher, he paces himself very well so as to ensure everyone understands the concept. However there were a few faculty memebers (who I will not be naming) who were not that good, mainly they were very dispassionate about their subject. Exams are of an average difficulty. One good thing is DU exams always follow a pattern, therefore it is fairly easy to prepare and score in the exams. Coming to the curriculum, it is fairly dated and not that industry oriented.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum consists of relatable topics and interesting ones as well this is what quite influenced me to take this course. We have labs which help us learn how to prepare various organic compounds which are used in many day to day products . The course also has a 4th year research program. There should be more equipments in lab for the research. The frequency is good for exams being conducted and there level is also quite good

The students become eligible for the placements provided by the college in their 3rd year, while they can pursue internship offered by the college in previous years. Average sized companies visited the campus with lots of students being placed for jobs. The highest package I am not aware of but lowest was of around 300000 pa. I plan to pursue masters after my graduation degree.

Students become eligible for campus placements from the 6th semester. I don't know a lot about campus placements but I know that there is a training and placement cell in our college that provides good packages to many students. Some students got more than 7lpa last year. I will be doing my Post graduation after college and will make a career in academics.
