Course Curriculum Overview

4

I actually chose this course because I have no idea about how tech works, so I didn't know which course might be good for me, so I just chose the one which I got allotted Labs play a major role in preparing us for real world applications because you'll never have a complete idea if you only go by theory and as far as I've seen every lab we've had was truly informative, it's a lot more easier to apply what you've learnt through theory practically The only way the course curriculum can be improved is be removing unwanted subjects like environmental studies, mechanics Initially you might feel a bit hectic as you'll be having quizzes almost everyday for a week or two, which will later be followed by mid-sem exams, but I'm pretty sure you'll get used to it, studying a week before the exam will also do

Internships Opportunities

3.5

At NIT Surathkal, internships are typically offered through various companies that visit the campus during placement seasons. These internships can be in the fields of engineering, technology, management, and other domains, depending on the companies that participate in the recruitment process. Types of Internships Offered: Technical Internships: Often in software development, data analysis, machine learning, etc. Core Internships: Related to specific engineering disciplines like civil, mechanical, electrical, etc. Management Internships: For students in MBA or management-related programs. Research Internships: Opportunities to work on research projects under faculty or industry collaborations

Placement Experience

4

Students are eligible for campus placements in 4th, although you'll have companies approaching you for internships by the time your in 3rd year. NITK Surathkal has a Career Development Cell (CDC) that organizes placement drives and training sessions to help students improve their employability and confidence Many companies visit the National Institute of Technology Surathkal (NITK) for campus placements, including top companies like Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Oracle, and Qualcomm. The number of companies that visit NITK has increased over the years, and the institute's placement rate has also improved. The highest offers were made by the BTech CSE, Electrical, Civil, Mechanical and Chemical students. Myntra offered the highest salary of INR 30 LPA to a BTech CSE Student during NITK Surathkal Placements 2024. The overall placement rate achieved was 87.22%. I don't have much plans, not really a startup or entrepreneur type of guy, I'm only aiming for a high package around 20-30 lpa

Campus Life

4

We have the second biggest fest in south india called INCIDENT, and there's also another fest which takes place prior to the former, ENGINEER. There are 2 libraries, a central library and an e-library, all academic related books, novels, self help books, etc are available. Medical facilities are provided, check up and pharmacy is free (hospital fee is included in the institution fees), tech help is provided in the campus itself at CCC, mobiles to tablets to laptops are all repaired There are many cultural and sports related events, there are NITK teams for every sport, cricket, football, hockey, basketball, volleyball, relay there are individual sports too athletics, shot put, javelin throw, long jump, high jump, tripe jump, etc. There are flexible block timings for those participating in cultural activities. There are many tech and cultural clubs, few tech clubs might also help you with internships, singing, dance and other cultural clubs are also available

Hostel Facilities

3

We have triple sharing rooms, each of the three gets a bed, a wooden study table and chair and a wardrobe. Food isn't that great, even south indians don't approve the south indian food, tough time for northies in the mess Hostel and rooms are allotted on the same day the admission is done, hostel fees is semester wise so it is affordable

Admission

I had applied for all the top 10 NITs, of which I was confirmed admission in every NIT, I chose NITK over NITT for 2 reasons, firstly because I was getting non-core branches in NITT, secondly I had home state quota for NITK through which I was getting core branches I didn't get any rejection from any of the colleges i applied, I was eligible for all of them, i just chose the one with the better rank and the one which would provide me with better placement in the course which I was getting allotted Admission process is through JOSAA and CSAB counseling. You're eligible to attend JOSAA counselling if you have cleared JEE MAINS with a percentile over 80. Exam accepted for my course are JEE and DASA(for NRIs), the cutoff of JEE MAINS 2024 was 93.4 percentile for general category, 90 percentile for obc, and around 60-70 percentile for SC/ST. Admission process was really not that hard, unless you don't have all your documents

Faculty

3

There are enough facilities in every department and for every subject, there are around 14 sections of class size 60-80 and every subject has 2-3 senior faculty and there are a few junior faculties who seem to be pursuing PhD here itself, all the faculties are very approachable, we can get in contact with them through email almost on everyday of the week We have a double track for chemistry, the one who does the lab stuff is my favourite, his teaching is easily understandable So basically in first year everybody studies the same stuff, so learning subjects which aren't related to the course you've chosen feels like a burden, and maybe that's why I don't like my engineering mechanics teacher, I don't understand anything in the class, she expects us to solve everything, so it's a bit of a problem studying everything on my own
