Course Curriculum Overview

5

My course of Mechanical Engineering has one of the best faculty in the university. We are also the ones which regularly secure a 100 percent placement every year. Also, it is a stream that can never lose relevance. Coding and stuff can be done in addition to the coursework easily. Laboratory classes help us gain practical insights into theoretical concepts. However, there is a dearth in teaching of Simulation related softwares which are essential in the industry. The timing of the exams are May and December respectively. The difficulty is such that students can easily pass but to score above 90 pc, one needs to go the extra mile.

Internships Opportunities

5

Internship opportunities are there in abundance. The companies that come to the campus for placement also select interns during that time. Interns 1 or 2 in number for each company receive good stipend ranging from Rs 30000-150000 per month. Interesting problem statements are provided to them and their talents are gauged sfter which some students also secure PPOs. I am still a 3rd year student , so I won't be able to elaborate on the tasks much.

Placement Experience

5

Companies come to the campus for internships at the beginning of 3rd year and for placements at the end of 3rd year. Companies like Delloite, Airbus,ExxonMobil GOOGLE, META, AMAZON, CATERPILLAR, ACCENTURE, PWC, EY, ZS, GoldmanSachs, BHEL, ITC, ABInBev, SAMSUNG, PAHARPUR, KIA, HONDA, TEGA, HUL, Forbes Marshall, and a lot of other multinational and prominent national companies come to the campus.Departments like ME, EE secure 100 percent placements but all the departments have a rate above 90 percent. Average package varies, but usually it is around 10-12 LPA. Profiles like FTE, Data analyst, SWE, etc are offered among many others. HIghest packages often grab national headlines. I would personally like to accept a job offer than going for higher study immediately post graduation

Fees and Financial Aid

The yearly fees is Rs 2500 to be precise. However, they take 5000 during the admission itself. At the commencement of 3rd year they charge Rs2750 and again the same amount at the beginning of 4th year. The caution deposit is 500Rs. The registration fees is 1800. The tuition fees is monthly 500. The lab fees breakup is uneven (different for each semester) However, one can roughly take it as 50 per month. No development fee is charged to the best of my knowledge. This fee structure is valid for general students like me. For quota students, it is the same but the catch is that they receive scholarship of Rs 10000 per year provided by the Alumni Association of the University. Besides students with less than 2.5 lakh annual income can apply for SVMCM scholarship provided by the State Government. No merit certificate is required for any of these as the students have already cleared WBJEE.

Campus Life

4.5

Typically two annual fests are held. One is The techfest Srijan which is held in February.Students showacse their scientific prowess in this fest and various companies also attend these fests. Another is the cultural fest Sanskriti held around January. Musical artists from around the country grace this fest. The entire campus gets enlivened during this fest. The library contains a whole lot of national and international journals alongside various textbooks. The selection transcends boundaries of subjects and domains. The classrooms are equipped with projectors and whiteboards. There is ample seating. The entire campus is under CCTV surveillance. Sports facilities ranging from table tennis, badminton, lawn tennis, carrom room, billiard, to an enormous playground and an open air theatre are present. A mountaineering club, a motorsports club, ISHRAE, etc are there for students to be members.

Admission

I did not apply to any other colleges. However, I had secured a 98.6% in JEE Mains 2022 and could easily get a stream in NIT Trichy or any other NIT. My house is situated very close to JU and it would have been foolish of me had i left it to study in other colleges. JU ranks among the NIRF top 10 every year and it is indeed a matter of great acclaim to study here. To get admitted here, one needs a WBJEE rank of 2000 at the most. For Mechanical Engineering, one needs a rank of 700-900 usually. The admission process is long drawn but very transparent.

Faculty

5

The faculty are highly experienced and educated. Most of the professors bear the Dr tag. Every year almost 20 professors from the university make it to the top 2% scientists list published by Stanford University. The faculty to student ratio is 1:2 usually. They are extremely accesible. You can contact them in their rooms or even via phone calls. They take much pain to ensure that students do not feel helpless regarding anything. Each subsection is provide with a mentor who guides them in every possible way. However, some lab assistants like a few in the Electrical Engineering Laboratory might be uncooperative at times. The curriculum is very much up to date to keep pace with the needs of the industry and global standards. Exams are not too difficult, but questions are of the descriptive type and can be answered if classes are attended properly. A minimum of 75% attendance is mandatory. Two class tests are conducted and their marks added to final exam.

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
