Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course has a concrete curriculum that has been structured through the aid of prominent books and concept on the subject and encourages students to cover the curriculum by refering to books and court judgements at its full length to understand the whole concept. The curriculum could be improved by teaching the current administrative side to body of laws. For eg : the shift of courts to digital side and to have the overall idea of it and also the whole process that takes place behind the scenes in each department upon filing of a case. The frequency of exams is exact and is conducted in a structured manner, which has been put out through the academic calender which gives timeline for students to prepare.

Fees and Financial Aid

The yearly fees for us is 1,62,000. However there was an additional caution fee of 2000 to be paid in the first year. This would however be refunded later on. However scholarship fee reductions are made available to certain students. Management quota also exists as per my knowledge at a higher amount of fees.

Campus Life

4

The annual technical fest is TECHNOVIT conducted every year. However, it's for engineering students. Few events are conducted for the law students for namesake, however I don't believe it to be a very relevant event for law students. There is the yearly cultural fest Technovit which is however accessible for all VIT students alike. The books and journals for law students are available in the library 3rd floor and there is a wide variety on every subjects. All law classrooms are also smart classrooms with projectors available for easy and interactive teaching. However VIT lags behind when it comes to sports as they do not encourage any sports activities unlike other colleges although grounds exist for each sports. Student run clubs are abundant. Some are active and works well while others are not. NSS and Thanima are a few active clubs. The debate society is also active mostly within the law school.

Admission

The admission to the college is based on our CLAT/LSAT scores followed by an interview and a group discussion round. I gave my LSAT scores for admission. The interview and group discussion session was headed by two professors who were friendly and approachable. I got admission in other colleges including Jindal and NMIMS, however the fee structure was the reason I didn't choose them. VIT was also recommended in my CLAT coaching centre as one of the better private law colleges. I did not get admission into any of the NLUs. I did however manage to secure admission in another pretty good college known as CUSAT in my hometown itself, however I wanted to study outside my hometown which is Kerala, which is another reason I chose VIT

Faculty

3

Faculties are mixed. Some are pretty good, especially some of the newer faculties who are friendly and approachable. Some of the faculties are also well versed in their area of knowledge, but can be very dry in their teaching. Prof. Ananthakrishna Raj, Arjun Shaji, Tania ma'am, etc are few faculties who are knowledgeable in their area and teach well. There also exists a problem in the student teacher ratio, which is often filled up research scholars who are not well versed or knowledgeable in their subjects which causes an issue in the quality of teaching offered. The exam system consists of 2 internal CAT exams which is graded out of 10 each and the Final assessment test which was the end of every sem. The total marking system included 40 marks for internals and 60 marks for the FAT exam. Arrears are more common in the initial years and for each arrear, the course should be re registered by paying 6000 rs. The course curriculum is relevant to the needs of the students.
