Course Curriculum Overview

3

The course is quite relevant to today's market. The college administration has added a lot of extra subjects like aptitude, english, economics, managment, history and civics on top of the AICTE prescribed curriculum to keep the students well rounded and their options open. While it does increase the academic pressure it is manageable. They have included matlab in the last few years which is a fairly new software and has extensive uses in various fields and is notably used by ISRO. They could improve the curriculum by giving students optional courses like ML or DL or prompt engineering instead of making it mandatory for them to study history& civics. The frequency of exams is an area they need to work on in my opinion. The exams are conducted too frequently and the teachers don't get the time to complete all the modules.

Placement Experience

5

IEM offers in campus placements. They have a very good record of placements with nearly all its graduates getting placed and the have been doing it consistently since the turn of the century. Students are eligible to be placed from the 6th semester. The average package is 6-7 LPA.

Fees and Financial Aid

Since it is an Engineering college the fees is taken per semester. The per semester fees for the 2023-27 batch is 85000/- so the yearly comes to 1,70,000/-. While admission they take 25,000 as caution money. The trend for the past years is that the semester fees is increased for every upcoming batch by 10,000/- so for the 2022-26 batch the fees was 75000/- but it was increased to 85000/- for our batch and further increased for the current first year to 95000/-

Campus Life

4

The campus is not that impressive if compared to most engineering colleges. There are no playgrounds except a basketball court. The building sometimes feels cramped during breaks and after college gets over. In terms of fests and events, there are a plethora of events happening every week. There are various student chapters and clubs one can be a part of such as the IEEE or the GDG. The library is open 24/7 and you can get all course books from there. All classrooms have projectors, speakers and microphones. The Gymkhana is the most prominent student run initiative in the college.

Admission

I chose this college over the others since I wanted to stay in the city. I did get into KGEC and I visited the campus but I did not like what I saw so I decided to go to a college in city. I chose IEM specifically because it is the best private and the 2nd best college(after JU) that you can get from WBJEE. The admission process is fairly simple, you just have to fill out the form, bring supporting documents that you will be asked to bring and pay the first sem fees + caution money. You can get an admission through WBJEE, IemJEE. The prime reason for choosing IEM is its placement record and its consistency.

Faculty

4

As mentioned earlier most of the faculties are quite good. All professors have a good understanding of their subject matter and the good ones convey it in a simple understandable manner. We have multiple teachers for the same subject teaching different modules thus the faculty to student ratio is quite good. All faculties are approachable and warm, they try to inculcate a good relation with the students. We can call or text our teachers without hesitation. There are 2 midsem theory examinations, 2 midsem lab examinations, one endsem lab exam and one endsem exam each semester. The midsem examinations both lab and theory are easy and can be aced with a few hours of preperation. The final lab examination is mid difficulty as you have to go through the entire semester's assignments but if they have been done regularly, it is relatively easy. The endsem theory papers are mid to high difficulty depending on the subject and student. The course curriculum is quite relevant to today's day and age.

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

It's my decision from class 12 that I will do civil engineering, so I chose the civil branch, the course curriculum is well and the teaching level is good but the main problem is lab, there is very limited classes for lab, so I think they should improve there.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
