Course Curriculum Overview

4

I was interested in power systems and embedded systems which made me choose this course being Electrical and Electronics engineering. The curriculum is quite good and mostly relevant I would say. Its both good if you're planning to work after the course and for going for higher studies in the future. I would say get rid of any value education or language based subjects as they are irrelevant to the course. The professors should also have the basic fundamental knowledge of what they're teaching rather than just read off of a pdf. Each semester lasts about 4-5 months long. We had tests and assessments to be submitted every month and the last month would be the semester exams. The internals were more difficult than the semester exams for me.

Placement Experience

4

Placements were good as far as I know. Students were eligible for placements from the third year or the 6th semester. A lot of companies came to hire. I could name a few being TCS, Accenture, Volvo, Exide, Havells and many others... Highest package from the campus recorded by the 2020-24 batch was 15 lpa while the average being 5 lpa. Although the exact number is not known i would like to say about 80% of students have been placed. I did get hired by TCS so my plan is to work there for a few years, build up experience and branch out looking for better opportunities.

Fees and Financial Aid

My course was 4 years long and the fees per year was exactly 250000 inr and that was just the tuition fees. Registration fee, caution deposit and all the other fees at registration came around 10000 inr plus another 10000 to book a seat. There were no lab fees or development but instead we had an examination fee however which we had to pay every year before our semester exams. The college also gave away about 300 seats per batch for the students coming from poor backgrounds. But apart from that there were no other management conditions. While the fees for all departments were the same 250000 a year per year, computer science and all its specializations had to pay 350000 a year. The entire fee structure would change exactly one batch later as computer science students would have to pay 450000 inr while all other batches would have to pay 350000 inr; so it was a 1 lac bump as a result. The batch i was in was considered as the covid batch so we had no entrance exams to attempt but the only selection criteria was the 12th grade marklist and most private colleges also did the same at that time. Scholarships were provided for students over 9.5 cgpa in their respective 12th boards and as I had mentioned earlier there was no SC/ST based criteria selection but the 300 free seats per batch provided by the college to the students coming from poor backgrounds.

Campus Life

3

There are a lot of fests held by the campus with Milan and Aarush being the most relevant and well known ones. The library is highly accessible with a wide variety of books available for almost anything. You could get books as part of your curriculum as well as books you want to read through casually. Just make sure to return them or renew them in time so you wouldn't have to pay a fine for it. The classroom facilities were fine. Although i wouldve preferred if every classroom had an AC since everyday was mostly scorching hot. We had to wait around 3 years on order to get classrooms with ACs and no they did not bring more ACs into classes, rather we just shifted to our seniors classes. The building I was in had like 3 classes with ACs in it however other building did come with classes with ACs in them. Sports was not very well received even though the college had the resources for it. It was almost like people can form their own tournaments and play if they want to. The college did come with various student, alumni and college driven groups which are solely based on automation, robotics and cars.

Hostel Facilities

3

I spent 1 and a half years in hostel. They provide you with a cupboard, a table, a chair and a bed. It works even though its not top quality. The hostel food wad the worst I've had my entire life. With a very small menu and all the options made so poorly you could risk having a bad stomach almost every week. The gravy looked more like water and the rotis could not even be chewed at times. There was a separate website for hostels for booking rooms and so on. There were quite the amount of options available to choose from whether you wanted a 2 sharing or a 3 sharing with ac or a dedicated bathroom. The affordabilty on the other hand qas ridiculously high with prices ranging from 210000 inr to 400000 inr. The quality of the rooms were really bad for the rooms they were offering. After i moved outnofbthe hostel, I had found a ln apartment where i shared a room with my classmate. It wasnt far off from the college but rather closer.

Admission

I did apply for Vellore Institute of Technology as well as for Manipal Institute of Technology. I did get admission into both those colleges but I chose SRM for a number of reasons. I got a seat at SRM even before VIT and MIT rolled the results out. I wouldve chosen MIT over SRM had the fee had not been as high. I wasn't rejected by any college rather i was called up for counseling in all the 3 colleges i had applied for. I never tried for NIT or IIT as i did not prepare for the JEE exam. Since I was part of the covid batch there was no entrance exam held for the college. SRMJEE was the entrance test that determines your rank and entrance into the college. But for us it was just the 12th grade marklist. Cut off for us was 60% or 6.0 cgpa. Once i booked my seat, it didnt take long for the online orientation as itnwas done just about 3 weeks later. And then courses began online from September of 2020. We only actually had to go to the college from the second year.

Faculty

3

Well faculties were generally approachable but I wouldn't do that since most of the time it just confuses the students more. Its better to know what the concept is from the professor and then using a different platform like youtube to learn the rest. I certainly had a select few professors as my favorites as they were the only ones who were helpful throughout the course. They could teach and was always straightforward about things. My favorites were Dr. Chellammal N, Dr. Anita, Prof. Pradeep and a few others. I do not HATE or dislike any professors but the only point I have to mention is the fact about how they just read off of a pdf and thats it. On average we had like 7-8 exams per semester. We had a total of 8 sememsters and it was 2 semesters per year. For me personally, it was no problem as I'd only study for them like 2-3 days before the exam. However there are quite a few students who dont make it. We also do have internal assessments and tests as well.

Other Applied Colleges

Vellore Institute of Technology - [VIT] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Electrical and Electronics Engineering)

I had received admission into SRM before VIT

Around 70% of the class gets placed in reputed companies with an average CTC of 4-8 LPA. 3.) Along with core biotech companies, many IT companies are also hiring students at a very decent package. 4.) I plan to pursue a master's after this course.
