Course Curriculum Overview

3

I have chosen this course to gain significant knowledge in the field. After studying, it has helped me to identify the course that I like the most which was zoology, with an influence from faculties like Dr. Ruth Ma’am, who was our beloved teacher and principal. The curriculum though extensive in terms of theoretical knowledge, doesn't expose us much towards the practical aspects. As a science student, I believe that arranging some field trips to nearby places to show the industries working on the things we study could help us understand and develop an interest to a great extent. Then, it is essential to carry out your basic research with a bachelor's which can be helpful in master studies. So, this could be included along with some mandatory internship opportunities for the students. The exams were comparatively easier in the first four semesters. But the final year used to be a little tough because of the addition of core subjects mainly, which required good efforts to pass the exams. The frequency and timing if the exam were ok having gaps in between exams.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college fees were considerably lower at that time compared to other private institutions, constituting a year-by-payment of 33000 for a triple major degree in science. An additional fee of approximately 100 has been paid as lab fees and breakage fees for science students. People who belong to backward communities had lower fees and students belonging to the state of Karnataka also had lower fees compared to the general category and other state students. During the admission time, students belonging to Karnataka had facilities to get financial aid if they required it. Overall the course fees for other science-courses and arts, psychology and BCA courses were also comparatively less than other institutions.

Campus Life

4

The college used to have several cultural festivals and activities. There used to be an Annual Philos feat, which was the main cultural, conducted in a big auditorium. Then there used to be celebrations for Christmas and hostel nights. It was so memorable. The library used to be fairly small compared to the range of courses they had. But it used to have necessary books for our reference for our particular course. The technological provisions provided in the classrooms included the facility to perform a microscopical examination of our slides in classrooms, along with some facilities like autoclaves in nearby labs. The chemistry lab was well maintained with all the chemicals and equipment we required. Sports and games used to be conducted yearly along with Philo's Fest. They used to take us to visit Dasara since Dasara ground was right opposite our campus and that experience was really good. Social groups like the ones for NSS used to be there with meetings inside and outside the campus followed by their activities.

Hostel Facilities

4

The hostel facility was good then with 6 seater rooms having bunker beds, cupboards and attached washrooms. We also used to have a common study area with personnel study tables, a common washroom, a washing area, a mess and a chapel inside the hostel. The meals provided were good with non-veg for students at least 3-4 times per week, providing eggs and chicken. On all special days, we used to get special food items served which was very tasty. The registration process for the hostel was easy, which was done along with the college registration and it was affordable considering the facilities provided. The hostel was located inside the camps and equipped with a proper security system. For people who wanted to rent rooms, it was available within 10-15 minutes walking distance from the college.

Admission

I haven't applied to many colleges in Kerala or outside. My parents decided to choose this college considering its reputation as a good college. Compared to other colleges I believe this college is mostly suitable for a study-based environment, suitable for anyone looking for further studies. So as a person looking for studies mainly my choice was this college. For a person who needs placement after a bachelor's I don't think this is a better fit, because the placement opportunities are limited to some selected courses here. The admission process here was fairly easy, based on the marks scored in the school examinations. The eligibility for applying was 60% marks in those.

Faculty

5

There were enough number of faculties for the students. When there were more students they used to properly divide us into batches so that it would be easier for both. The faculties from all the courses I studied and others were very approachable and kind. Some of them like Prof. Dr Ruth Shantakumari, Prof. Lissy Syriac, and Prof Agnes D’Souza from Zoology, Botany and Chemistry respectively were extremely nice and knowledgeable. They helped us to develop a strong interest in the subjects which was essential for our journey ahead. They taught us important values inside and outside the classroom and made our college days memorable. There were some faculties that I didn't find interesting or understanding because of my differences in opinion. We used to have exams for all subjects which was 6 for the first four semesters including 2 languages, a foundation course and main subjects. For the final year, we used to have 6 subjects including 2 main papers for each main subject. The exams were easier in the first four semesters and the final year was a little hectic in comparison. Though the evaluation was on point, some of the students used to fail in the final year. The course curriculum overall was good to build theoretical knowledge. However, it could be improved by adding the research project a mandate in the final year, which could help the students a lot in their further studies.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I would like to rate the course 7 out of 10. Because as these is a distance learning many difficulties occur. I am doing a MBA in ksou after my graduation in b. Com. As ksou comes under UGT it is more helpful for the job seeker. As per my knowledge the faculty should conduct a more classes may be through online so that the working people can attend the classes from wherever they want. There are many distance learning courses in ksou academic platform but they are not handling in a accuracy. They take a lot of time to announce a results, even to conduct a exams they take a lot of time. The question paper are sometimes difficult and the question will be from out of syllabus which will be difficult to attend. Distance learning course is difficult to manage
