Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum for my Major is based on guidelines from NEP and IGNOU. Each semester has 4 units for each paper along with practicals for each paper. The course itself I would say is well thought out and planned well. I would say though that some papers or specific units are a bit simpled out. But they are all really relevant to our Majors and for real-world applications so I will not complain too much on it as it also allows for us to read into more subject related books. This helps us keen on learning more about our respective fields and also develops better critical thinking. To conclude, the courses are well thought out, simple and well planned. Its upto the faculty to decide the pace at which the course is going and can have some affects on our exams.

Internships Opportunities

2

To my own knowledge at least, the Internship programs are still at a very premature stage in the college as of the current date. The types of internships one can find include those that of working for the labs and libraries.

Placement Experience

3

KJC provides placements as early as the final year of a Bachelor's degree. As of current date, Im still yet to complete my Bachelor's degree and planning to pursue a Master's degree so I have opted out for placement and have not joined the sessions or councils regarding placements. But from common knowledge, the college provides an average of about 5 LPA. The placements are seemingly better for PG compared to UG programs.

Fees and Financial Aid

Please keep in mind im from ST category and as such the actual fees may vary for different categories. To my knowledge there is a deviation of about 500-2000 inr for each categories. For my current course, the fee structure is divided into 3 parts- 1st year, 2nd and 3rd year with each year consisting of 2 semesters. For the 1st year the fee to be paid was 75,000 inr and for the other 2 years its 60,000 inr per year. During application I had to pay around 500 for interview registration which was done through the college website. After admittance to the college, there are no monthly fees first of all. All facilities like libraries are free of cost. The college issues department uniforms to which one needs to pay about 3000 inr. There are certain prescribed certificate courses which one can apply for and will need to pay some fees. But other than those, there are no other miscellaneous fees to pay as far as I know, at least for my current course. Lab fees are charged together with exam fees which are to be paid towards the end of each semester before the end semester exams. The said exams fees vary from year to year. During the first year I had to pay 2000, 2400 for the second year and for the final year I am paying 3200 inr. The college issues multiple forms of scholarships based on different aspects of a students character like merit, aptitude, financial status, etc. As for me i have not applied to these scholarships but from what ive heard, those who have applied for it usually get around 30000+ for each semester. My current course of subject does not provide separate Tuition classes and as such there are no Tuition fees. This may vary from course to course.

Campus Life

4

Student life in KJC depends on how the student wants it to be. The college itself provides an immense number of opportunities to showcase a student's talent and skill from intra to intercollegiate festivities like Plutonia- a science department festival. Each department would hold at least one department specific program per month. These programs come in the form of competitions, exhibitions and other shows. The college holds some annual programs like Ethnic Day usually held in October, which is where each student has the opportunity to come in their cultural clothes and perform various cultural dances and show a glimpse of each of their own heritage. There is the annual sports, teachers' day, and other exciting programs like Woodrock Festival which gives the students the opportunity to showcase their musical talents and skills. The College also provides many different clubs which the students can participate in. Each club organizes various activities to help nourish the skills of students. There are tons of novels and other good books in the libraries and too. As mentioned before, each student has many open choices to make their campus life as lively and fun as possible so it is upto them to decide on how they want to spend it.

Admission

My hometown is in Mizoram and at the time before admission, I had only applied for some local colleges in my hometown. I had heard about this college as coincidentally, during the time when i was still searching for some good colleges across India, KJC had an admission campaign for North Eastern Indians. This was done to enrich diversity in the college and provide more opportunities for the ST categories. This was also mainly how I had come to know of the college. The admission process is simple. There is an online registration to which one must apply for to be eligible for admission. After registration, each individual will be notified for an online interview for scrutinising the applicants. Each applicant is evaluated with a number of questions regarding the field to which they want to apply for, why they want to go the college etc. They would also be asked to wear proper formals and groomed well for the best impression. Compared to most other colleges I had applied for, KJC is undeniably superior in all parameters from the smallest qualities like campus environment to more significant qualities like CGPA to which they currently hold a 3.78 out of 4. Overall, it is a very recommendable college and compared to other universities or colleges in South India, I would say KJC is also one of the most budget friendly colleges.

Faculty

4

So first of all, the faculty-to-student ratio varies from each class, course and section. For my course Bsc Statistics, the ratio is 1:17 strictly for the Statistics Majors. The faculties themselves are all very knowledgeable and their characters vary from department to department. During the first two years of my course, due to the addition of language and elective courses, lectures would be taken by faculties from various departments and not only the science department. During these times I would say there were some faculties who seemed harsh, strict and overall very approachable during lectures. I will not mention names to allow discretion. But once you go meet them in their cabins, they are the nicest people. I guess they do this to maintain discipline and adherence to proper classroom decorum as sometimes, depending on the subject, there would be about a student to faculty ratio of 60:1 in a single classroom where the classroom themselves are large and not sound diffusive friendly as there are tile floors and cement walls and thus noise tends to reverbrate a bit more. As for my Statistics teachers, they are very friendly and would often nag on us to approach them to inquire about our doubts and problems. They are all really knowledgeable and all have multiple Master's degrees in various fields. As for the course structure, I will keep it simple. The college website provides the actual marking schemes and can be accessed for anyone to evaluate. Each course is split into formative and summative assessments where formative assessment gives results based on internal test, exams and assignments. Other aspects like attendance and overall classroom participation are factored in to bring the best evaluation out of each student. The summative assessment is self explanatory and gives result based on our final exam papers. The weightage between them is 40:60 and failing either assessment will result in a backlog.

Night Life

5

One can only say that night life around KJC is at best 'lively' to keep it as dull as possible. The college is placed in the midst of an ever developing area called Kothanur. Since its inception and establishment, the college itself has brought about many developments to the area in the form of more buildings, PGs, hostels, restaurants, gyms, etc. As of now, each sideway on the road leads to any one of the aforementioned facilities. Students have an endless selection of choices on how they want to relish the evening after a day's or week's worth of college. The locality starts to liven up a bit once the classes give over which is at 4:30 pm. The locality is a really busy place from that on. There would be hordes of students at places like Panoor, Red King Chilli, Nandu's etc. The neighbourhood around the college is usually peacful and safe for either gender to roam about. Though I would suggest not going out after 12:00 am midnight.

From final year the students can apply for the placements. At least 60% should be there to be eligible for the placement. Many companies provides placements in this college like infosys, Accenture, Mahindra and many more. The average package as per the company is 200000 per annum and the highest package is 700000 per annum. My plans after getting the degree is to go to abroad for my post graduate.

Placement Experience:

Usually there are placements in our college. If any student does not get a placement the faculty guide us what we can do next like the companies in which we can apply and how we can go further. In my course after finishing the bachelors degree you can further study masters it is available in our college itself or yoj can aplly for companies but if you do your masters you have a better opportunity and high posts for you better career. The course is of 8 semester you become eligible for campus placements in 7th semester. The last year that is seventh and eighth semester is basically practical and lot of projects provided. There various companies are seniors have applied and offered for example the genetic company in Bangalore that is Med gen. The highest package offered is 50000 and the average starts from 25000 placements in college. There is 75 percentage of students getting placements from our college. My plans after getting the degree is to go for further studies and do the masters after that i would like to do job along with my phd, this is my plan after getting my bachelors degree.

Most of the students after completing four years, continue to stay here to get Masters degree after one more year and pursue PhD from world renowned institutions. Very few people (<7/100) per batch will sit for campus placements and most of them will be selected with a good annual package of 30000 at an average. Some students, mostly Physocs majors can give government exams like ICRB, GATE to join ISRO and BARC as scientists
