What Students Say
Likes
- Girls to boys ratio was pretty good as compared to other engineering college.
- The campus looks beautiful from outside. Lots of trees and greenery inside the campus.
- The placement department worked tirelessly to bring good companies at very good package.
Dislikes
- Except few, most of the faculties were cluesless and with no compassion for student, made our life living hell. Their teaching method was just using a ppt and reading it asking you to take notes.
- The curriculum is not designed to make good engineers. It is designed for students to just mug up and write the answers. The curriculum was extremely irrelevant to this generation.
- The faculties and staff were extremely rude and arrogant. Instead of mentoring the students they just burdened us with assignments and internals every month. They made our life hell.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course as I thought this would help me get a good job in a good core electronics company but the relevance of the course to the real world was nil. Nothing i was taught could have helped me even get a minimum paying job. They should improve the course and bring new faculties who can teach new age technologies to the students which would help them in the real world. The exams conducted were very frequent and extremely tiring. Internals every single month with no option of even having best two of three internals (best two of three was there in many colleges) exhausted everyone. Due to this frequent exams the faculities were bound to complete the course on time. This made them skip everything and made our life even difficult. The difficulty of the exams was not that much because they used to give notes before every exam and if you can mug up every word by word then you will score good.
Placement Experience
Students are eligible for Campus placements from the seventh semester. Various mass recruiters such as Accenture, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Capgemini recruited students in good number with very low package of 3.5lpa. Highest package offered was 42lpa in CS dept. but that was offcampus. On campus the Highest package was 28lpa. Average package for CS, IT, ECE would be around 7lpa and for entire college it would be around 4lpa. Almost 90% students get placed from CS, IT, ECE (IT companies, No core job) but for the other branches this no. Is very less. You shouldn't even think about this college if you don't get these three branches. One good thing is the placement department. They worked tirelessly to bring good companies and tried their best so the student can get the best salary. Even I am working as a software development in a big MNC but I give no credit to the faculties as I had to prepare and learn everything on my own which everyone around me did. If you depend on college for that you won't even get a job.
Fees and Financial Aid
I paid 225000 per year as tuition fee. The accomodation and other facilities are excluded from this. The students who came through management quota had to pay much more and I am not sure abiut the exact figure as it depends on various factors such as branch etc. The fee for local students having karnataka domicile was significantly less and they just had to pay around 80000 per year(not sure of the exact amount). Scholarships were available for students of SC/ST category but I have no idea about the amount.
Campus Life
Two fests happened every year but they were extremely boring and we preferred to stay at our place than getting bored there. Also the classes would go on asusual during the fests. You had to chose between attendance in the class or attending the fest. Books and journals are available in the library but only if someone didn't beat you to it. The no. Of students was 250 and no. Of books for each subject was hardly 25. The classrooms were dull with no proper ventilation and during summer it felt as it is on a desert. No air conditioning despite taking such huge amount as fee. Fans never worked properly. The chairs were broken and uncomfortable. Sitting there for 6-7 hours felt like hell. Sports ground is there but no one had the time to play due to their excessive work load of exams and assignments.
Admission
I was preparing for JEE but on the day of the exams I had very high fever and thus failed badly. As i had jo other option I appeared for COMED-K. I searched for the top 5 colleges there and found that DSCE was among the top five and I could get in easily based on my rank so I chose this. There are three ways to get into DSCE. 1. If you are from Karnataka, you can appear for KCET and then counselling is held in person in Bangalore. 2. If you are not from Karnataka, then you have to appear for COMED-K, and then the rest procedure is same as KCET. Keep in mind that you have to pay thrice the fees paid by the locals. 3. Get admitted through management quota by paying insane amount to the college and you will the branch and everything of your choice.
Faculty
The faculties were inapproachable (except a few). They were always arrogant and rude. They always try to humiliate the students. The faculty to student ratio was decent. I don't want to name the faculties but The Department of Electronics and Telecommunication had one of the worst faculties in the entire college. They weren't even decent human beings. Lacked basic emotions and humility. In one semester they conducted one internal exam every month which was very tiring. Two subjects on the same day without for 3 days. I used to sleep less than 3 hours for those three days every month. Scoring is easy in these exams if you can mug up things and write it in the exam. You just had to blindly mug up the notes. If you wrote something in your words they will deduct marks. The curriculum is very old and the things they taught us has already been discontinued in the real world
Interview Experience
No GD or interview of any kind is required to get admitted to this college. If you are local karnataka domicile then appear for KCET and get a good rank there. If you are from other states then appear for COMEDK. If you have money then go through management quota by giving heft amount to the college as donation
Night Life
Gyms, cafeterias are all available inside the campus but they are very expensive. They charged extra for everything. Hostel life as i was told by my friend was hell. Seniors ragged them sometimes ( althought they were expelled after the management found out). Common washrooms for entire floor and 3-4 people in a single crowded room. The locality is safe to roam at night but you won't get anything after 11 there. You have to go away from the college to Kormangla or JP Nagar if you want to experience the night life.
