- Infrastructure-One of the biggest drawbacks of IIEST Shibpur is its not upto the mark infrastucture.However,modernization and construction works are taking pace.
- Mess food-It is a general issue almost every college student faces.Vegans especially face some troubles adjusting themselves here.
Course Curriculum Overview
Since both the semiconductor and telecom sectors are on the rise recently,i have opted for Electronics and Telecommunication course.The curriculum here is well suited to the needs of the industry and for higher studies as well.As in teaching methods,professors could also use projectors and smart boards instead of whiteboards or blackboards.
Internships Opportunities
A variety of companies such as PWC, Accenture, Microsoft, Google, Goldman Sachs, Cognizant and many others provide internships in our college offering FTE , SDE or equivalent and various other roles.
Placement Experience
Placements in IIEST Shibpur are decent.There are both on-campus as well off-campus placements.Reputed companies such as Google ,Microsoft, Amazon, Texas Instruments visit our college for recruitment.Average package is around 7.5-8 lakhs per annum and highest package touches 50+ lakhs per annum.Generally more than 75% students get placed.
Fees and Financial Aid
There are three criterions based on which fees are charged.Firstly,if annual family income is more than 5 lakh rupees then those who opt for hostel,have to pay Rs 100500 per semester.The hostel and mess charges combined amount to Rs 29500(mess-25500 and hostel-4000) .Hostel fees breakdown per semester-> Hostel maintenance charge- Rs 2200,Seat Rent- 1000,Electricity and water charges- Rs 800.Mess fees breakdown-> Mess caution money (one time and refundable)- Rs1000,Mess dues advance(per semester)- Rs 17500,Mess entrance fee(per year & non refundable)- Rs 3000,Mess Establishment fees(per semester and non-refundable- Rs 4000).In our college,tuition fees waiver is also provided for students whose annual family income is less than Rs 5 lakhs.SC and ST candidates are by default eligible for full tuition fees waiver.Students having annual family income between Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh are eligible for 2/3rd tuition fees waiver.Those having income below Rs 1 lakh are eligible for full tuition fees waiver.There is one merit cum need based scholarship for 1st year students which is GAABESU scholarship.
Campus Life
Extracurricular activities are given much priority as academics in IIEST Shibpur and this is where clubs come into the play.We have clubs for dancing, singing, debating, coding, photography and many more.A variety of fests are also held in our college.Instruo-the techfest is held in January while Rebecca the cultural fest is held in April.
Hostel Facilities
4 people are accomodated in a room in first year.Each student is provided with a bed,closet and a study table.A variety of meals provided in the mess. Registration for hostel is done on the day of physical reporting itself.
Admission
IIEST Shibpur accepts students based on their ranks in JEE Mains examination.A student can take admission through JOSAA as well as CSAB counselling.I chose IIEST Shibpur over other colleges because of its strong academic record and strong alumni network.
Faculty
Professors of all the courses are well-trained and highly qualified.While most of them are helpful and solve students, doubts when approached to,a few of them are not so.Class scedule is generally hectic in some days,with lots of assignments given.Generally mid semester exams are on the easier side as compared to end semester ones.
Night Life
Gym is there in our college which is equipped with modern equipments.After a day of classes students geneally go grounds or to canteens.For first year hostels,in time in regular days is 7 pm but in special occasions it is extended upto 8-9 pm.
