Course Curriculum Overview

3

The lab applications subjects in the curriculum which are there for us since the second year are fun and also prepare us for future applications. The CT's are extremely hectic to prepare for and are heavily corrected by the faculties, and it is very important to secure a good grade.

Internships Opportunities

1

Very less and far between largely non existent. Students have to find internships and opportunities themselves and level up and upskill themselves. The college boasts to provide options but are largely non existent.

Placement Experience

1

The campus placements for my college are variable but are mostly mediocre. It's better for the ECE and CSE branches but is bad for my branch i.e. Biotechnology.

Fees and Financial Aid

2.5 Lakhs per annum is the fees for my course & the specific branch. The fees varies for other branches. It is the constant every year for my branch & course. The students who are in the top ranks in the srmjee entrance exam, receive scholarships, as well as board rankers.

Campus Life

3

The library is really good of SRM, but the problem which has arrived now is that ever since SRM increased the intake of students the campus has become very congested. Aarush and Milan are two major fests of the college. Aarush is the techno fest, wherein good artists and performers come as well as good conferences and workshops are available to attend. It's a fun time in the college. The Gym is good for hanging out and training but one must get used to the huge amount of crowd. The classrooms have smartboards which is a nice addition as now no one has a visibility problem from the board and chalk or markers. There are numerous clubs that students can join to get some experience and hav some fun.

Hostel Facilities

4

The hostel facilities are average at best. The first years have ample number of rooms to pick from, which reduces drastically for second years and even more for 3rd and 4th years. Thus some have to go out and take flats or pgs eventually. The rooms which are usually devoid of washrooms are fairly normal with just cupboards, desk and chair. Common washrooms fir these rooms can be compared to a Railways washroom. The attached washroom rooms are slightly better as the washrooms remain much cleaner. But the room service is good wherein cleaning ladies come and clean the rooms almost everyday. AC rooms can also be availed which are similar to the above mentioned rooms. For flats Estancias and Abode valley provide good options near the college. The quality of the mess food of SRM is good with a lot of variety but one will definitely get bored with eating the same kind of food week in and week out and thus create boredome and lack of stimulation in taste. As you get know exactly what u are going to eat that particular day and know beforehand how's it gonna taste thus many students hate it. But all and all the quality of the food is great with a variety of options.

Admission

Since I am a PCB student, other than medical we have limited options. To choose SRM for this particular course, and they were providing admissions to non math students also i.e. PCB students as well. Amity Noida didn't feel that good for me so I ignored that as well as a few other colleges, I never wanted to do BSC and B.tech provides a more technological knowledge than just theoretical scientific stuff. To be eligible for this college u need to have atleast 60% score in all core science or math subjects.

Faculty

3

The faculty to student ratio is fairly good considering what students are used to from their school loves. 1 teacher for 60 students seems adequate. The faculties in SRM are hit or a miss. Some are good and some are outright bad but no one's great. Every subject is awarded 100 marks, 60 marks from internals (consisting of CT's, projects, assignments, and internal assessments) & 40 marks from the end sem examinations. The constant examinations almost every month is hectic, and to keep up the good scores is difficult, the problem is bad internals can ruin your chances to pass the subject and one needs to score heavily well in the end sems to clear the subject. The course curriculum follows the new nep, so it's as good as it can get in this country.

Night Life

1

Night life is non existent for the girls as they basically locked up in their hostels after 6:30 PM. The boys have an intime of 9 PM which is hardly a nightlife. So the night life is non existent in SRM, due to its conservative nature which is the case in Tamil Nadu. Special permissions can be taken through the hostel wardens after being connected with the parents but even then sometimes it's hard. But it can be worked around with time. There is butty for pre in time activities and a few other restaurants and cafes in the campus i.e. slice of life near the SRM hospital, Mr. Burger and others in the UB building.

Specific schedule is not followed in college regarding the academic and co curricular activities. Sudden decisions will be taken by the management which is a bit difficult for the students and faculty too. There were times where faculties are fed up of management rules and decisions.

Placement Experience:

1.) Placement begins from the pre-final year and we are allowed to apply for companies from the final year. 2.) Around 70% of the class gets placed in reputed companies with an average CTC of 4-8 LPA. 3.) Along with core biotech companies, many IT companies are also hiring students at a very decent package. 4.) I plan to pursue a master's after this course.

The students become elgible for placements right from the 5th semester of their course work. The students who have no standing arrears become elgibile in the first place. There are many companies visiting the college where Infosys, Cognizant, Virtusa are the mass recruiters. The are many other companies like TCS, Wipro, Zoho etc. visiting the college placement drive. On overall 90% of students gets placed every year. The highest package of 25lakhs per annum was offered by amazon for 3 students. My plans after getting degree is to get placed in any of the company.
