Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum of IIT BHU's B.Tech program is highly reelvant and comprehensive, offering a bled of theoretical knowledge and practical applications. A key aspect that influenced my decision to choose this course(Electrical Engineering) was the inclusion of modern subjects, like Modern power electronics , and Modern control system, that has very much applications in industries, alongside traditional core topics. The availability of electric courses in advanced areas allows students to specialize and explore fields of their interest. Area of improvement can be to add more new courses, like AI, ML, etc and don't just teach only core and traditional courses. Teaching method is very good, I think no improvement needed as of now. Frequence of mid and end semester exams are approximately 1.5 - 2 months. Difficulty level is not too hard , I would say medium. Also it depends on which branch you are in. Electrical Engineering is he toughest branch here, and you will face a ot of challenges, specifically in power systems, etc. So it is medium - hard range. Easiest branch is Chemical engineering, where students will study one night before and can score full of out of full.

Placement Experience

5

Placements at IIT BHU are a huge success. IIT BHU offers strong placement opportunites with a high placement percentage (would say almost everyone will be placed if they are serious for their placements, and even start late). Placement generally begins in the 7th semester. This year 220+ people get PPO (pre-placement offers), and most of the masss got placed in first 5 days of placement interview in Decemer (around 900 including PPOs). We saw a huge diversity in companies that visitts the campus placements, Google, DeShaw, Oracle, Microsoft, Flipkart, Nvidia, Texas Instruments, Walmart, OLA, Zomato, Uber, Groww, PhonePe, Sprinklr are a few of them (total 250+ companies and profiles). Placement stats have improved a lot from past year recession period. TPRs are very friendly and supportive and theere is a strict action against cheating in placements (which may include debarrement from placements phase 1). Major profiles are Software, DA/DS, Business/Consulting, Product. Highest (excluding PPOs) - DE Shaw 70 LPA, and Databricks 68 LPA for software profiles. Pce Stock Broking 75 LPA Average package here is around 20-30 LPA. 10 - 20 % companies : 7-12 LPA. 40 - 50 % companies : 13 - 21 LPA. 30 - 40 % compaies : 22 - 40 LPA. 10 % companies : 45 + LPA Percentage of students getting placed - last year was recession so there were 12-15 % student overall unplaced This year I see companies are coming in very huge amount, and around 900+ (right now 1000) students already placed. I would predict that 20 % students will remain unplaced after 1st phase of placement that will end by December 2024. And after 2nd phase maybe 4-5% students will remain unplaced. My plans, since already placed at SLB, will work 2-3 years in the company. Then will switch to Microsoft or Amazon.

Fees and Financial Aid

Thee fee structure for B.Tech. in IIT BHU is like : The yearly tuition fee is 1,00,000 INR, 500 INR for examinations fees, 200 INR for registration / enrollment fees, 1000 for Gymkhana fees, 150 INR for festival activities, 300 INR for medical facilities, 250 INR for student amenities subscription, 300 INR for hsotel seat rent, 1200 INR for fan / electricity / water charges, 2250 INR for hostel development fund, 200 INR for campus services and utilities and 365 INR for medical insurance. This brings the total yearly fee to 106715 INR. The fee structure has been consistent for our batch and shows no significant increase over the years. Students from reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC) or those admitted though special quotas have some fee waivers. Scholarship option available include merit-cum-means scholarships, which support students based on academic performance and financial need. Additionally, several government and private financial need aid programs, such as Inspire Scholarship and other state-level scholarships, are accessible to students. The overall affordability of the course is reasonable, considering the faciliies provided by the institute.

Campus Life

5

Annual socio-cultural fest is Kashiyatra. Annual techno-management fest is Technex. Both occur in Jan - April period only. Kashiyatra occur in Jan-Feb, Technex in Mar-April. Campus life is great, offers diverse exposure to everything from music dance to coding and hackathons. Sports is also given priority here. We have a vast library, includes collection of numerous books from old core concepts books to the latest recent books, over 50,000 + offline books available here AC are being installed in classroom, smart boards and projectors are also there. Many classes have charging ports for laptops and mobiles. Surroundings are made clean and green. Overall sports and extracurricular is 8.5 / 10. Good opportunities, regular participation in Inter IIT. Most of the clubs and groups are mainly student run here. TPC, SAIC, SNTC, etc.

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostels (some) are old and need renovation, but major hostels are fine (good), and good wifi LAN, geysers, Vending machines, common rooms, Canteens, cameras for security, badminton courts, big lawns, open surroundings, greenery, Washing machines. Planning to have AC in common rooms also. Meals are tasty and good, we have satwik mess for only vegetarians Menu is nice, paneer is served 3-4 times per week. Healthy and colorful food, proper hygiene, and can ask for extra food items. Simple registration process, pay the semester fees that include hostel fees, then pay the mess fees, after that do physical registration in hostel fill form, select room, etc and done. Room rents are available outside campus in a range of 500m-1km, Hyderabad gate good place to find rooms, just ask someone the exact location.

Admission

For admission to B.Tech courses, candidates must have passes theirr Class 12 wih Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as core subjects. They must also meet the age criteria (born on or after October 1, 1999, for General category students). I chose this college because I was getting a circuital branch (Electrical Engineering) here. As placements and internship are a big success here. In electrical average package is around 20 LPA+. Other colleges like NIT-A, and other top NITs. They have not so much good placements. Also we get IIT tag from here. Also the alumni base is very strong here (from 1919, when it was IT-BHU), we have very succssful alumni and very strong alumni network. I couldn't make it to IIT-Roorkee, actually got IIT-BHU in JOSAA 7th round of counselling and couldn't back up. Was getting mechanical engineering at IIT-Roorkee. But I am not regretting. I have got an excellent placement here. Admission process as mentioned above, student have to give JEE Advanced, cutoff for general category is around 10k for lowest branch, and for circuital, around 3k for electrical engineering. As I mentioned earlier that I applied via JOSAA, and applied for all the top IIT, and NITs. IIT BHU was my 8th preference and I preferred it over IIT Roorkee mechanical engineering, and all NIT CSE branches. As I mentioned since I was getting a circuital branch here, that's why I chose this coollege over other colleges. Didn't get rejection from other colleges as such. Admission process for IIT BHU involves two major steps: clearing JEE Mains and JEE Advanced exams. After qualifying JEE Main, candidates must appear for JEE Advanced, and their performance in this exam determines eligibility for further rounds. The required marks in 10+2 are aleast 75% for general category students and 65% for reserved categories (SC,ST). Admission is through JoSAA counselling, where candidates select their desired programs, and seats are allotted based on rank.

Faculty

4

Faculty to student ratio in IIT BHU is approx. 23:1. Faculty members are highly knowledgeable and experienced, with many holding doctoral degrees and having significant research contributions in their respective fields. The relationship between students and faculty is generally friendly and collaborative, with most professors being approachable for academic and research-related discussions. I liked Mr. Santosh Kumar, who is a professor in Power Electronics in 4th year of Electrical Engineering. His way of explaining is very good. He is humorous and makes class interesting. He quite often discusses with them, what research and development work is going on in our college and motivates us to participate in the same. Overall very kind and knowledgeable person he is. Can't think of any faculty I don't like. All are on the good side only. Semester exams : there are two exams 1. Mid Semester exams, 2. End Semester exams. Mid sem starts appx. 1.5 - 2 months after semester begins, End sems appx. 1.5 months after mid semesters. Exam difficulty depends on professor to professor. Some professor repeat past year questions. So it is very easy to score in those exams while some frame new questions and if the course is also hard then it is very hard to score. For example in a course of EMD (Electric machines and Drives), a new professor has been alloted the course and he didn't repeat any questions and mentioned that clearly in class as well. So we have to complete a whole book questions to prepare for the exams. Usually professor fails very less student and if you are able to maintain atleast 20% then that is good. In EMD, appx. 7-8 students failed the course, and had to take it up in summer term

Night Life

5

Nightlife is mesmerizing, we often visit ghats that are outside the campus. Outside you will have city life feeling. You will also see foreigners in ghats, and many holy rituals being conduted. Gives a very pure and relaxing vibe here. Inside campus is also good at night life, clean air and fresh environment. Library is open till 1-2AM at night. Canteens are open till 4AM, in some hostels, you can go there. Gymkhana / SAC (Student Activity Center) generally closes by 8PM. Restriction in movement to roads that lead to girls hostel after 10PM, you have to show your id card to pass by, so no trespasser is allowed. Campus timings are 8AM-5PM classes, at max 5 classes will be held in consecution so not very hectic. Famous hangout places are obviously Ghats, Assi Ghat, and VT (Viswanath temple) inside the campus, and Electrical Department. Safe to roam outside after night, because recently strict actions have been taken to ensure safety, barricates, police booths, night guards, cameras.
