Course Curriculum Overview

4

One of the cause that i am graduate with Botany Hons. and choose Calcutta university because theit long standing academic reputation to its M.Sc. programs. The curriculam stress conceptual clarity, good lab and analytical skills, which are essential for higher studies like research. Industry-relevant skills and some electives or practical components may align with the recent technological advancement or market trend. may be improvement in Commucation, teamwork and presentation skills could be devloped through workshops or seminars. Examinations occur two times per year, one on Feb/March and other in September. Semester final exams moderately difficult, requiring in depth knowledge of the subject.

Internships Opportunities

3

Some leading pharma and biotech companies like Biocon , Sun Pharma provides internships in the position of research associate intern, quality control assistant and get stipend around 15000. Analysis of the efficacy of a particular protein target for pharmaceutical trial.

Placement Experience

4

1. Students generally get eligible for campus placements from the 3rd semester of the M.Sc. course. 2. Deperments like Biotechnology,Botany,Zoology have placement support. 3. Companies coming to campus like TCS,Wipro,Deloitte,Biocon,Pfizer. 4. Deperments with strong placement cells secure 10-15 offers per company, depending on batch size. 5. 8-10LPA Highest package offered by Leading companies and 4-5LPA Average package offered by companies. 6. 60-80% of students getting placements. i am interested in Ph.D. programs for research positions.

Fees and Financial Aid

The University Of Calcutta offers a range of courses under the M.Sc. program and each courses has its own fee structure. In Botany, approximately 7500/- tution fees for the first year and may be 4000/- tution fees for each 2nd,3rd and 4th semester. Fee structures are generally the same for all categories, though some concessions or scholarships may be available. There are some scholarships but all are Merit Based Scholarship. The Scholarships provide may be 60000/- per year.

Campus Life

4

My Campus life is a mix of academic , cultural engagement and extracurricular activities. 1. Cultural Festival held in February and it features cultural performence, talent shows and competitive events. 2. All deperments have their own personal library with the adequate number of books, journals and research papers. 3. All lecture halls may contain at least the very basic teaching equipmentlike a projector, whiteboard. 4. Labs are well equipped and modern. 5. The university hosts various sports like cricket, badminton in winter season between the deperment. 6.The students union actively represents the students interest, organize events.

Admission

I applied in Bardhaman University, Bankura University, Jadavpur University and confirm fron all these Universities. There are several reason that led to my decision on choosing Calcutta University(CU) over other University, like reputation, affordability, and also research opportunities. Admission Process :- 1. Online application through the official website. 2. Bachelor's degree in the relevant subject with minimum 55% . 3. CU students directly admitted through their merit basis and for NON-CU students going through the enterance exam. 4. Merit List and Document Verification.

Faculty

5

-The ratio is generally around 2:25 (student : faculity) which maintains a reasonable level of individual attention. -Faculity members are usually open to approach, espeically to students who show real interest in their subject. -KA sir in our Botany departnent are much liked for his clarity and dedication to teaching. -In M.Sc. courses are spread over two year with 4 semesters. Each semester generally consists two major exams - internal exam(20-30 percent of the total marks) and final semester exams(remaining 70-80 percent). -The ones who attend classes regularly, relating to the study material, seem generally no to have any problems with examinations. -The pass rate may be 85-90 percent and students fil mainly due to lack of preparation.

Night Life

3

The University itsekf doesn't really have a campus nightlife. The hostel gates closing by 10PM for boys and by9:30PM for girls. The students love to hang out in the common room by playing indoor games and also loves lawn and ground for outdoor games. The surrounding areas of the university can be considered safe for students at night. These places don't shut down at late night and there always police presence along these areas.

Placement Experience:

Actually this is a general degree University , so I must mention that placement facalities are not so good. But yes , Job Fair is organised in University by some external agencies which offer jobs varying 2-2.5 lakhs per annum . But in the university most of the students do not accept that jobs. Half of the students are more interested on the higher studies. So ahet completing the fourth semester they prepare for PhD. And the another half are preparing for central government sponsored exams like CGL, CHSL, RRB, SBI , IBPS, LIC etc. University has a significant number of students who have qualified for Government Competitive exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

My decision to choose this course depended on the fact that this course provides you with the opportunity to get various jobs in the industries with a high lpa. But this college does not help much in that aspect. All I had to do was myself. It is my humble opinion that the institution should improve its guidance in the area of its teaching methods. The exams were twice a year and were quite difficult on their own.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Biotechnology is a highly demanding course in today's world. The syllabus for this course is mostly around bookish knowledge and you have to gather outside knowledge on your own. There must be an internship for every student arranged by department itself in various other institues or labs for practical work experience.
