Course Curriculum Overview

5

The course Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) revolves around businesses and it's different aspects. In the first semester you study subjects like Financial Accounting, Business Organisations and their management, Business laws. In the upcoming semesters, we will read subjects like Business Economics, Taxation, Financial Markets and much more. I had a keen interest in the business field and wanted to pursue my career in this field only. B.Com is a well respected course and when you do it from such a reputed college, you get prepared for the difficulties and challenges in this field. You get to have first hand experience and understanding of different aspects of business while working on different projects. Once you finish the whole course, you easily get ahead of the 90% of the crowd. While pursuing this course, one can refine himself or herself through enrollment in other professional courses like CA, CS, CFA, FRM, ACCA, etc. and crack them easily while doing regular college. You don't get stressed by exams as you have to give exams only twice a year that too only in end of semesters. Regular tests are also conducted but completely depends on the professor. What I would like to see is more focus on the real life application of the theoretical knowledge. It'll boost the confidence of the students and will make them more market ready.

Fees and Financial Aid

This is a 3 year course, can be extended to 4 years as well if the student wants, for which you have to pay fees in the beginning of the 1st, 3rd and 5th Semester. You pay this fee for the whole year. There no other fee other than the examination fee which you'll be paying while filling the examination form of your each semester. I belong to OBC and I paid ?16,755 for the first year. It was ?12,975 last year. The fee is the same for students belonging to General, EWS and OBC category. For students from SC/ST categories it is ?16,595. For Foreign students, it's ?35,655. For students from PWD category, it is ?150.

There are multiple societies in Kirori Mal College and all of them are students run. Though they have one or two professors conveynor and co-conveynor who take care of the whole society. All these societies are working in multiple field from Finance to Entrepreneurship to Social Service to Education to Environment Protection to Sports to Singing to Dancing and whatnot. These societies float recruitment forms for the students and then there is a long recruitment process of interview, Group Discussion and much to get selected in any of these societies. The sports club regularly organise matches within the college and sometimes with sports club of other colleges as well. The National Service Scheme of the Kirori Mal College, a government led initiative but students led programme at college level , is one of the most prestigious and renowned NSS unit across the country due to its brilliant work in child education. It teacher students from underprivileged background from Monday to Saturday. These students are from Nursery to even class 12th. Some of these students have really excelled in their studies and some have managed to crack exams like JEE, NEET and CUET and have got admission in prestigious institutions.

Admission

I applied for CUET. It's an aptitude test for entrance in various universities but my personal focus was the University of Delhi. There are various colleges under University of Delhi, Kirori Mal College is one of them. It ranks 9 across India in the NIRF ranking of the college. I had filled a combination of various courses and colleges in the counselling round. In the first round I got Bcom in Ramjas College but I wanted even better college. I thought that I could be upgraded to a better college so I put the request for upgradation in the second round and I was upgraded to Kirori Mal College in the same course that is B.com Program. The cutoff for Kirori Mal College for my course was 728/800 in the first round and I missed by one mark but got upgraded in the second round. I chose Kirori Mal ove Ramjas as it is a much more prestigious college. It has better placement record along witha really good alumni support. The societies of Kirori Mal College are very famous for their work.

Faculty

The faculty members in this college are really good and some of them are the absolutely best in their field, having experience of over 24-30 years in their field, having written multiple research papers and books. The faculty to students ratio is fairly good, I would say it about 1:30 We have faculty members from IITs, NITs, IIMs, FMS and top universities from across the world. They bring their own learning and experiences from these colleges and enrich us with that. Faculties are very approachable and helpful. You can reach them out anytime in the college and they'll help you barring a few of them which happens everywhere I believe. Most of the faculties are PhD holders or scholarship in many fields. In terms of exams, there are two main semester exams in the end of each semesters in an academic year. Other than regular tests, practicals and labs are conducted depending upon the courses. The faculties teach more than enough in class to pass the examination with above average scores. The course curriculum is taken care by the University of Delhi itself and they keep revising it almost every year. In every semester, we have to study 7 subjects, ou of which 3 are the core subjects related to our courses while for the rest 4 we can choose any subject of our choice from the pool of subjects offered. The 4 subjects are categorised as VAC (Value Addition Course), SEC (Skill Enhancement Course), GE (General Elective), AEC (Ability Enhancement Course.)

Night Life

The college is not very big infra wise so there are only a few spots in the college like the college canteen, the Hostel Canteen, the sports complex and sports ground, the canteen lawn, the library lawn. You can also go the Gymkhana. If you have made Hostlers friends, then you can also go to the college Hostel and try food. Other than that, there are some really famous spots in the North Campus which becomes favourite hangout spots of students from Day 1. Let me name a few - Sudama Tea Stall, Dolma Aunty k Momos, Tom Uncle Maggie Point, King Momos in Kamla Nagar ( its very close to Kirori Mal College Back Gate), NagoribTea Point, Chhole Bhature at Chache Di Hatti, Kamla Nagar Market. These are some of the most famous spots in the university campus where you will always find students hanging out with their groups. You can go there and make friends with students from many colleges like Hindu College, Hansraj College, SRCC, Daulat Ram College, Miranda House, St. Stephens, Ramjas College.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Well i choose this course because I didn't got what I wanted. Many students are from arts background who got this course because they had no option. The curriculum is same as school all chapters and everything. The law section is new. About buisness and law and everything. Rest is same. Changes in curriculum is not in their hands. But if they could actually change the accounting syllabus. The timing of exams is normal 2:30 to 6:30. And internal test taken by perspective teacher are according to their time and class. They will take retest incase you didn't attended.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I really was interested in finance and taxation from the beginning. This course aligned rightly with my interests. The curriculum is based on real world applications. Corporate accounting, financial accounting, company law, human resource management, these are very important considering change in the job market and business world. Not only real world applications but one can also go for further academic pursuit such as a master's degree and research. This makes the curriculum really diverse. Some areas of suggestions would be that in theory subjects there should be practical activities. Just like vestibular training. The time of exams is just right. After the completion of syllabus of a particular subject, we are given 10 days of preparation leave. The exams are moderate and it really tests our ability and knowledge based on our studies.

For placements fifth semester student are eligible for placements. Since it is best commerce college. Companies like big 4, google, bank of America, Goldman Sachs, bcg, bain and co., Sbi, paytm, meesho and many more comes. The highest package was 36 LPA this year from meesho for senior analyst roles. Average package is 10 LPA. Most of the placements take place in consulting, marketing, auditing, finance and analyst roles. Around more than 50% of the students get placed. My plan is to take placements in consulting and finance roles after the degree from the college.

The placement of my college is good if you perform well in the process of selection, as I told earlier, the placement cell is pretty active, so you would have a good number of options. I will be naming the good companies that visited my college, they were EY, Deloitte, DE SHAW, TCS, KPMG, etc. Numerous offers were made and I would say over 80% students in my batch got placed in good companies.

In open learning management.. they provide hard copy of books tk prepare whole semester and this is a very good thing because those books are covering whole semester in some books only and there is a v good thing I found... At the end of every chapter they provide summaries and mock questions for every chapter to analyse the weakness and strength. the areas for improvements in the Course Curriculum and Teaching Methods--- they should also provide a mock test paper as per the paper model and latest questions or updated topics with to the point topics The difficulty is normal if candidate is completely prepared...
