Course Curriculum Overview

5

From SEM-1 we are prepared for the placements. We have to study soft skills for 6 semesters which is a must course and helps students prepare for placements at the final year of the programme. The examinations are conducted 3 times in VIT. All three of the examinations are fairly easily to pass and with a little effort you can easily get a good score.

Internships Opportunities

4

There are a lot of MNC's which come to campus for Interships and placements like JP Morgan, Delloite, Intel, Microsoft, Google, Nvdia and many more including mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro. As I'm a first year student I cannot really shine light into the required projects for interships.

Placement Experience

4

Students become eligible to sit for Interships inside campus from 5th semester onwards and can appear for placements from 7th sem. Big and well renowned companied like JP Morgan, Delloite, Intel, Nvdia, Microsoft, Google and many companies come for placments in VIT. More than 850 companies visited the campus this academic year. Highest package for my campus was 88 lpa and avergae package was somewhere around 9.5 lpa. I plan to go for palcements after getting my degree. If I do not get a descent package I would look to ontinue higher education from Germany.

Fees and Financial Aid

There is a fee category system in VIT. There are 5 categories of fees, from CAT-1 to CAT-5. I'm myself in CAT-2 in which I'm paying a tuition fee of 3,07,000 per year. The CAT-1 fee is 1,95,000 and CAT-5 fee is 5,00,000. The category of your fees is decided based on your ranking in VITEEE examination and the demand for a particular course. For eg: I myself scored a rank of 11,741 in VITEE and got a CAT-2 in BTech ( AI & ML ), if I had opted for CSE Core I would have gotten in with a CAT-3 fee structure and if I had chosen some other low branch like ECE I would have gotten CAT-1. Other than tuition fee you also are required to pay hostel fee and mess fee. In hostel you can select in 2,4&6 bed occupancy and AC and NON-AC. The NON-AC 6-bed is the cheapest with an annual cost of 49,000. I opted for 6 bed AC with a cost of 94,000 per year. There are also four kinds of mess you can opt for Veg, Non-Veg, Special, Food Park. The cost for these also varies woth veg mess costing 78,000 per year. I do not rember the cost for the rest of the messes.

Campus Life

3

There are two festivals annually. One is a technical fest known as Techno VIT and other festival is known as Vibrance. Vibrance is a 4 day festival wheres Techno VIT is a 3 day festival. On campus life in OK OK. It is not very exciting but can't complain either. All kinds of books are avaialable n the library along with a virtual library.

Hostel Facilities

4

We are provided with a chair and table. We need to carry our own mattress. I cannot complain for the meals whereas the menu gets a lot boring over a long period of time. During admission process the Hostel registration takes place. Talking about affordability it is quite expensive but as accomdation in Chennai is expensive it is cheap as compared to the market rate

Admission

I got confirmed admission from VIT, Chandigarh University, SRM University and Thappar. I also applied for KIIT, MIT and IPU colleges. As I did not get a decent rank to get CS in IPU I icould not go there. I received confirmation from VIT before the the entrance examination of KIIT and MIT, so I did not even appear for the exam. SRM is rip off for the pocket so I did not go there. Thappar has lost its prestige over time so I did not go there either and Chandigrah university does not have a good market value

Faculty

4

There are more than 500 professors on campus with total students about 18-20k. The student and faculty relationship is wonderful. The faculties try to get to know us on a personal level and create a bond with us. There are 3 examinations in one semester for theory classes which are Continous Assessment Test - 1(CAT - 1), CAT - 2, Final Assessment Test( FAT ). The CAT examinations are conducted for 50 marks which have a weightage of 15 marks each in the final total. The FAT exmainations are conducted for 100 marks with a weightage fo 40 marks. The rest of the 30 marks are reserved for assignments and projects. In order to pass in a subject you need to have minium of 46/100 in the grand total at the end of the sem. You must score more than 40 % in FAT and more than 50% in internal assessments in order to pass. If both the requirements are not met then you are failed in that cours and have to repeat it. The course curriculum is relevant to the industry.

Interview Experience

4

VIT conducts its own entrance test known as VITEEE. It is fairly easy as compared to other competetive exams. Preparing for aptitude is a must as it can boost your score a lot and give you a upper hand in the competition rather than just cramming PCM. No interview was conducted. After the examination the result is declared via Email and you are given a chance to sit in the counselling.

Night Life

2

My favorite hanging spot on campus is Gazebo which is close to library. The hostel in timings for boys is 9pm wheres for girls it is 8 pm. The campus in timing is 6 pm and 1st year students are not allowed to go on outings. Famous hangout places are clock court, library, gazebo, north square and Aavin

Other Applied Colleges

Chandigarh University - [CU] | Bachelor of Engineering [BE] {Hons.} (Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning)

I did not opt for this college because the exposure of VIT is much better as compared to CU, also the market value for VIT is much better as compared to CU.

SRM Institute of Science and Technology - [SRMIST] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Artificial Intelligence)

The fee structure is awfully high and can't be afforded by a common middle class person.

Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology - [KIIT] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)

I did not opt for this college because I had some known people in Odisha and they said that the college has degraded over time and it does not has those old glory days as it used to have earlier.

Manipur Institute of Technology - [MIT] | Bachelor of Engineering [BE] (Computer Science and Engineering)

I did not opt for this college because on ground culture of the college is not very good. It is said that a lot of narcotics and alcohol is easily available in hostels and there is no strict action to get rid of it. I have a couple of friends who have agr

Specific schedule is not followed in college regarding the academic and co curricular activities. Sudden decisions will be taken by the management which is a bit difficult for the students and faculty too. There were times where faculties are fed up of management rules and decisions.
