The course is relevent to the curriculum in gate exams and the professor are well connected to the industry, therefore they can and always advice us accordingly. They are some extra things and some subjects are not relevent to the industry, but professor always tell us importance to have knowledge about other related fields.

Hostel Facilities

5

The room for us 3rd year is big and you can run a kettle and other electrical appliances. Registration for hostel with the warden and caretaker during the start of the year. In some hostel you can chose and in others they allot you room. The food is sometimes good, most of times bad. The food is mostly undercooked.

Admission

I was born and raise in rourkela, it would be nice i have gone to any other college, but my family wanted me near them, NIT rourkela as been my first priority, but given the choice IIT delhi would be better, never cleared Jee advance but never actually tried. It would have been better to spent time in a new city

Faculty

4

In my mechanical department they are 114 students, there are close to 40 professor then there are lot of mtech and phd senior who help them run all the labs plus classes. There are also lab assistant, and management that take care of the day to day. The best professor will be srinivas behera, they took our Mechanics of Solid in 3rd semester and taking Meterolgy in 5th semester. He is very good in teaching topics, even though he is new. The worst professor will be tanmoy bose, he never gives full marks even if you do the question like he does in class, if you somehow get good marks in exams, he will find ways to cut marks in TA and the maximum you will get is A grade, he rarely gives excellent. His teaching skills are poor or down right pathetic, I never understood anything he taught in class. There are mid sem and end sem exam. Mid sem - 30% End sem - 50% TA ( Teacher Assessment) - 20% Depends on teacher but includes class test, attendance etc.

Night Life

5

There are gym in every hostel, there is a central library, there are several restaurants inside the campus and canteens are located inside the hostel. Hostel timing for first year, they have to go insde at 8.30. From 2nd year you can stay outside, for whatever you feel like it. You have to sign in the registor after 12 but its no bigge. Then the night canteen closes around 1am. Famous hangout spot will be jagda and backpost

Exams are conducted continously with no gaps and its not a easy stuff students get lot of stress but still somehow manage.

I would rate the placements at my college as 3 out of 5. Students usually become eligible for campus placements from the sixth or seventh semester, and a few well-known companies do visit the campus every year. The placement cell helps with basic training like resume building and interviews, and many students, especially from IT branches, manage to secure jobs. At the same time, the average salary packages are not very high and top roles are limited, so a lot of students also focus on skill development, off-campus opportunities or higher studies after completing their degree

Students are eligible for placement from their 3rd year onwards. It has been only 2-3 months but I have seen several companies arriving at the college, prominent ones being Flipkar,Deloitte, Xerox, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Microsoft, Dell and several others including startups. There is no accurate data on how many offers have been made this year, but there are rumours that more than 95% of the eligible students have got placements. After getting a degree my plans are if I dont land into a satisfying job then I will start my preparation of the military or start a new business.
