Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum is designed in such a manner that it touches upon every aspect of Commerce field, that is Finance, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Organisational Structure, etc. Sometimes the subjects are repetitive, therefore some credits are wasted. And sometimes the subjects are set in such a manner, that their order of learning is disorganised. But, overall the curriculum is well set, academic wise. The additional subjects help you dive into the professional world by providing internship opportunities. We also get the opportunity to work in Community outreach projects, social work, and environmental projects. Apart from it, we can choose a minor subject, from a pool of subjects apart from our curriculum subjects. The teaching methods can be improved by including more of presentations, audio visual methods, etc. The curriculum should include more of subjects which are new and relevant to the upcoming generation and the changing professional world. Frequency of exams is at the end of the every semester, we have one final exam for every subjects. During the entire 4-5 months of each semester, we engage in various internal and continuous assessment components like test, viva, practicals, presentations, projects, assignements, etc.

Internships Opportunities

3

Students from all the years are eligible to apply for SEC internships. Commerce department offers a wide range of internship opportunities for SEC, in companies like MSME India, Hypedin, Experience digital, NGOs, etc. These internships are mostly unpaid. Roles include Social media marketing, business development, marketing, HR, operations, research intern, etc Talking about placement, a plethora of companies with a wide range of packages, highest till 14-15 LPA participate in the placement drive. Godrej, Bain, Deloitte, KPMG, Accenture, etc are some of the top companies. The process and round varies from company to company. Firstly everyone is required to sit for the briefing session, wherein company details, structure, job description, perks, work environment, etc are discussed in detail. After that rounds like CV screening, PI, GD, Case Study analysis, etc are held. A company may undertake 4-5 rounds of screening applicants.

Placement Experience

4

From Semester 5 onwards, students are eligible to sit for placements. Name of companies visited include Bain, Godrej, Deloitte, KPMG, Youth India, Accenture etc. Highest package offered was by Bain company, 14 lakhs CTC. Usually Commerce students, especially Bcom Hons students have an upper hand at placements. Upto 50% of the batch gets placed. I'm planning to sit for the 4th year in Bcom Hons, and appear for the placement drive. My aim is to work after degree, and then pursue masters. DU has offeredus the option to indulge in specialised research in 4th year, and sit for placements simultaneously, enhancing our CV

Admission

I applied to all the colleges which provided Bcom Hons course. I was selected to Swami Vivekananda College for Bcom course Via Extra curricular score. I got selected into Bharati College, and Shyam Lal evening college on the basis of my marks in the first 2 rounds. Being a Christian minority candidate, finally I appeared for a PI round at Jesus and Mary College and got shortlisted. JMC was the top college that I applied to, and therefore I chose JMC. I got a rejection from other colleges, as My CUET scores were average and not upto the mark. The application process for JMC is, firstly they will be screening your CUET marks and application. Mostly the cutoff at JMC is 90% and above for General category. Seats are very limited. Christian candidates have an advantage here, as even 50% scores can get you at JMC, provided you ace the PI round. The only exam which is accepted for the course/JMC/ Delhi University is CUET.

Faculty

4

For a class strength of 50-60, every subject has 1 teacher for lecture. For tutes, and practicals, separate teachers are assigned, and same class maybe divided into groups of 2 or 3, for better performance evaluation, and teaching efficiency. Most of the teachers are approachable and friendly, especially in the Department of Commerce. The Commerce faculty is known for their young, and outgoing teachers. Be it teaching, dancing, tripping, or sharing memories, and problems, teachers are wholesome. Some faculty members are very stringent, and sometimes their teaching methods are not efficient, and monotonous. At the end of every semester, we have our final exams for each subject. Practicals are there for subjects which have the practical component. Internal and continuous assessments are there for every subjects, which vary according to the credit weightage for each subject. The exams are usually easy, designed in such a manner that an average student is able to attempt and answer. However, once in blue moon, some practical subjects do set a tough paper. But the checking is appropriated accordingly.

Interview Experience

4

Applicants have to first give CUET entrance test. 90% usually is the cutoff for JMC students, unless you are a Christian candidate. Non christian students need not appear for any interview rounds, they are selected on the basis of their merit records. However, christian students are called for a personal interview round. For Christian students, the cutoff percentage is relaxed, and they are evaluated purely on the basis of their interview performance. As a Christian candidate, I prepared well for questions like my involvement in church, and social works, and other general couse related questions were also asked, as to why I chose the course, what are my future plans, etc.

Night Life

We have 2 gyms. One is paid with a trainer, with proper professional equipments. The other one is known as the Open Gym area, accessible to all, with basic exercise installations. We have a common Canteen, wherein we can sit and done, with variety of options, catering north, south, and western taste buds. There are huge grounds and green parks to sit and relax, soak sun especially during winters. There are 2 common area rooms, wherein students can sit and relax, play music and enjoy. One of the Common rooms is named after the Bhelpuri counter present there. The entire college closed by 6 - 6:30. Students are not allowed to roam around the campus, or stayback without proper permissions from the authorities. JMC does not provide hostel facilities. However, there is a convent facility for Sisters. Students have to find PGs in Staya Niketan, Anand Niketan, etc Famous hangout places inside Campus include Amphitheatre, Ground Field, L park, Common Room, Bhelpuri Common Room, etc.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Well i choose this course because I didn't got what I wanted. Many students are from arts background who got this course because they had no option. The curriculum is same as school all chapters and everything. The law section is new. About buisness and law and everything. Rest is same. Changes in curriculum is not in their hands. But if they could actually change the accounting syllabus. The timing of exams is normal 2:30 to 6:30. And internal test taken by perspective teacher are according to their time and class. They will take retest incase you didn't attended.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I really was interested in finance and taxation from the beginning. This course aligned rightly with my interests. The curriculum is based on real world applications. Corporate accounting, financial accounting, company law, human resource management, these are very important considering change in the job market and business world. Not only real world applications but one can also go for further academic pursuit such as a master's degree and research. This makes the curriculum really diverse. Some areas of suggestions would be that in theory subjects there should be practical activities. Just like vestibular training. The time of exams is just right. After the completion of syllabus of a particular subject, we are given 10 days of preparation leave. The exams are moderate and it really tests our ability and knowledge based on our studies.

My plan is to take placements in consulting and finance roles after the degree from the college.

The placement of my college is good if you perform well in the process of selection, as I told earlier, the placement cell is pretty active, so you would have a good number of options. I will be naming the good companies that visited my college, they were EY, Deloitte, DE SHAW, TCS, KPMG, etc. Numerous offers were made and I would say over 80% students in my batch got placed in good companies.

In open learning management.. they provide hard copy of books tk prepare whole semester and this is a very good thing because those books are covering whole semester in some books only and there is a v good thing I found... At the end of every chapter they provide summaries and mock questions for every chapter to analyse the weakness and strength. the areas for improvements in the Course Curriculum and Teaching Methods--- they should also provide a mock test paper as per the paper model and latest questions or updated topics with to the point topics The difficulty is normal if candidate is completely prepared...
