My review of BIT Mesra

I had an interest in chemistry for a long time then I got to know about chemical engineering which is just about scaling up the reactions to meet the industry requirements which fascinated me. A couple of my cousins did their chemical engineering from this institute and are doing good in the field. Hence I chose this field of engineering.

The yearwise fee structure differs from year to year. The overall fee (including the mess fee) for 4 years for any Btech course was 20 Lakhs at the time of admission for 2024 batch. Sem 1 - 161500 Rs. (Academic fee)+20000 Rs.(Hostel rent,transport,etc.)+20000 Rs. (Admission fee)+10000 Rs. (Caution money) + 60000 Rs. (They will give you a laptop and you can't refuse to pay this) = 271500 Rs. (To be paid at the time of admission) Sem 2- 161500 Rs.(Academic fee) + 20000 Rs. (Hostel rent,transport, etc.)=161500 Rs. Sem 3 and Sem 4 - 177000 Rs. (Academic fee)+22000 Rs. (Hostel rent, transport, etc.)=199000 Rs. Sem 5 and Sem 6 - 194500 Rs. (Academic fee)+24000 Rs. (Hostel rent, transport,etc.)=218500 Rs. Sem 7 and Sem 8- 214000 Rs. (Academic fee) + 26000 Rs.(Hostel rent, transport, etc. )=240000 Rs. Its compulsory to stay in college hostels for 1st years and you will have to pay the hostel mess fees as well which will be around 30000 Rs. for semester 1 with 5000 Rs. as the caution money to be paid in sem 1 itself. Suppose your mess bill in sem 1 comes out to be 22000 Rs. but you paid 35000 Rs. in total. The remainder amount will be compensated in sem 2 i.e you will be only required to pay 17000 Rs.This continues for the subsequent semesters.

The biggest event in BIT Mesra is the annual BITOTSAV which is typically held in February-March of every year. Another teachincal event held here is called Pantheon. There are many other other small events that are held in every 2-3 months accompanied by DJ nights and performances by various clubs. The collection of books in the library is great for student's academic requirements. The sports complex here is decent including a football stadium, 2- badminton courts, 2-basketball courts and a cricket oval. The clubs here allow students to pursue their interests in addition to their academics.

I tried to get a seat in any of the core departments of any NITs in the country but couldn't do so. I could've got into IET lucknow. I was offered a seat in chemical engineering in IET lucknow in the 1st round of UPTU counselling but the exposure in BIT mesra is much better than that in IET lucknow.

Most faculties here are great and are very approachable but a few of them are just horrible. In each semesters there are two 10-mark quizzes conducted (one of them can be converted to an assignment) and then there is a 25 marks mid sem and another 5 marks are in the hands of the faculty the remaining 50 marks are for the semester exams

Weekend nights are spent singing and jamming with our hostelmates. For boys its free to roam around the campus but its not adviced to go into the jungle area as Mesra is a forested area having various snakes in it. There is a night canteen in hostel 3 for the 1st years.
