Course Curriculum Overview

4

I chose Biotechnology because it is a multidisciplinary field. We get to study not only topics related to biotechnology but also biochemistry, bio physics, bio informatics, bio statistics, etc. Mostly everything that is essential for future exams is taught during the span of 3 years. The topics of the units are taught in depth but the questions asked during exams are comparatively easy as to what all we studied. The frequency of the exam is, 1 internal exam which consists of both mcqs and written exam, the semester exam for each semester and practical exams for each subject. If u have studied then you will be able to attempt the questions.

Fees and Financial Aid

The detailed fee structure of my course that is Bsc Biotechnology is as follows: For the 1st year i paid 38,335 rupees in total. This included the tuition fees, caution fees, admission fees, lab fees and everything. The tuition fees was 20,000 rupees, the caution fees was 150 rupees, the laboratory fees was 4500 rupees, exam fee was 2300 rupees and the development fees was 500 rupees. For 2nd year i paid 43,921 rupees in total which included the tuition fees, laboratory fees, caution fees, development fees, etc. The tuition fees was 23,200 rupees, the laboratory fees was 5000 rupees, development fees was 2500 rupees and the exam fees was 2500 rupees. The fees for all the students is same whether they be SC/ST, Open Caste or OBC caste. Students whose family's yearly income is less than 3 lakhs are provided with scholarships.

Campus Life

VISIONS is the name of college festival of SIES college. I did participate as a volunteer and it was very fun. We have to all the books once we make library card, we also have book in our biotechnology's departmental library. The facilities and technological provisions are good as well. Many extracurricular activities are there like acting workshops, art and crafts workshops, etc. There are many student based clubs, one of them is green club which I am part of. It is fun to interact with other and know their point of view as well.

Admission

Other from SIES, I applied for the same course in Ruia college and Somaiya college. I got confirmed admission form from Somaiya college but i didn't opt for it as the fees are too high compared to SIES college. I didn't get admission in ruia college because their cutoff was high. I was eligible to get admission as my total marks in HSC board exam was 418 and the cutoff was 420 so I visited my college and had a talk with the faculty member, the faculty members guided me well and told me to bring HSC mark sheet, and fees (DD form) that's it.

Faculty

In Bsc Biotechnology, there are around 10 faculty members and in my class ie, Second year Biotech there are around 35-38 students. Most of the teachers are nice and approachable, we can approach them anytime and solve doubts. Sharada Mam is my favourite teacher. She is extremely kind and sweet and makes sure everyone understands the topic. I don't dislike any of my teachers. There are total 2 semester exams in one year. and 2 interval exams and 2 practical exams for each semester. The semester exams are difficult, around 5-8 students are unable to clear them. The curriculum is some what relevant. We also study other course's subjects like, i have IT lectures every week as we follow NEP guidelines.

Night Life

3

I visit college canteen mostly. The timing for my course is 7:15 am to 1:30 pm. My favourite hangout place is college gymkhana, we can play many boards games like chess, ludo also table tennis. The locality is very safe.

Placement Experience:

My college gives campus placement placement opportunities typically after 4th semester, which is the 2nd half of the 2nd year. As my college has a partnership with IBM so the standards of campus placement go right up as the placement depends on the curriculum performance of the student so can't really say much for this. If saying as a stalemate, getting a placement is basically confirmed if the student maintains his/her CGPA of 6-7, which shows the consistent of the student in their field.
