Remarks

Well as told earlier,I have a mixed review od the college. The internship and job opportunities are good, the seniors are helpful, the technical and cultural fest give a great opportunity for the students. However the curriculum is not good. The faculty is

Entrance Preview

I took JEE Mains and JEE Advanced after passing my 12th Examinations. I scored 217 marks out of 360 in JEE Mains and 91 marks in JEE Advanced. Punjab Engineering College ( PEC) is the best college in Punjab or Chandigarh and also close to my city and therefore took admission in this college.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course curriculum is well pre designed in my college. The faculty knows what they have to teach and when. The quizzes, assignments, projects etc are very common to assess the students. Two core exams named mid sessionals and end term are conducted for major evaluation. The teachers here are quite ok. Frankly speaking, some of them lack knowledge in the fields or subjects they teach to us which results in a bit of problem. Also the curriculum is very busy and we almost daily get assignments of some or other subject which makes it a little bit tough to handle.

Internships Opportunities

I am currently in 5th Semester and in our college, companies come from outside for hiring students for internship or training for 6 months. Few companies which cam in ur camous for our mechanical branch are as JP Morgan,Amazon India,Alstom Transport,Grey Orange,Larsen & Turbo,Eicher,LexinnovaI sat for JP morgan and Alstom Transport. Could not clear the Group Discussion round in JP Morgan. However a few days later,Alstom Transport cam and I cleared both Group Discussion and Interview Round and was selected for a 6 month traning in Chennai plant. The stipend offered was Rs 15000 per month in Alstom. Amazon India offered Rs 40k per month and Greyorange gave Rs 25k whereas JP morgan offered a stipend of Rs 30,000 per month.

Placement Experience

4

PEC university has a brand name in India and companies try their best to get into our college for placement opportunities. Also training and placement cell of our college works hard in order to co-operate with these companies so that they don't face/suffer any inconvenience. The companies come for placements in 7th Semester and almost 15-20 companies visit for every branch and almost 80% of students get easily placed.Maruti, L&T, Eicher, Honda, Goldman Sachs, American Express, Sandisk are few companies which usually visit our camous for placements.

College Events

3.5

The college used to celebrate cultural and technical fest differently when I was in my 1st year. The technical fest was named as "Vyom" and cultural fest as "PECFEST". However from the beginning of the 2nd year, the concept changed and both the fests are now celebrated together. To conduct the fest properly, different teams are formed in advance such as infrastructure team. Discipline team, marketing team etc. Marketing team works to bring sponsors. Some of the sponsors usually include food shops like Quiznos, cabs provider like Olacabs, ubercabs and grocery providers such as grofers, peppertap etc. Also PEC Nights are most popular among the youth where some famous celebrities come and perform in main arena. For eg - I have seen Gippy Grewal. Roadies founder Raghu,Singers like Benny Dayal,Vishal Shekhar. People from different colleges come and witness the fun and to participate in various competitions.

Fee Structure And Facilities

PEC University of Technology is a government institution and hence the fees are expected to be low but I was suprised to see that it is too expensive. One has to pay Rs 39000 per every semester for tuition fees. Also the students living in hostels have to pay Rs 42000 in a year. Considering this, it is expensive and not affordable for some of students. However there are provisions for poor students and their fees is usually deducted. Also SC/ST students have to pay 50% less fees.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yes the college offers scholarship for the toppers in each branch every year. Full fees of the students scoring the maximum CGPA in every branch is waived off. This encourages a lot of students to perform well. Also SC/ST students pay 50% fees only.

Campus Life

3.5

Campus Life is good if a student is active. There are a lot of clubs like Dramatics for honing acting and dancing skills of students,SAASC Club to improve communication skills etc. Many students actively participate in these clubs and also take part in various competitions held at IITs etc which gives them a competitive edge. A lot of technical competitions are also held. Workshops are held regularly and guest lectures are also organised.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

Hostel Facilities provided here are not much good. There are 4 hostels Shivalik Hostel 1st Year Students Himalaya Hostel 2nd Year Students Aravali Hostel 3rd Year Students Kurukshetra Hostel 4th Year StudentsFor girls, there are two seperate hostels named

Alumni/Alumna

Ragging is a big concern among the students who join their college in 1st year. However the scene is completely different here in PEC. The senior students here are so helpful which is one of the best things I have experienced so far in this college. Ragging is a complete absence here. Also if you ask any problems from seniors, they will be more than happy to help you. Regarding Alumni, there is a society PEC Alumni and meetings are held by the director Manoj Arora in order to organise get togethers etc.

Exam Structure

Exam Structure is the worst thing in this college. The quizzes, assignments, projects just blows student's mind. Especially it becomes a period of so much tension when exams come. During mid sessionals, two exams are conducted in one day which is too hectic
