Course Curriculum Overview

3

The curriculum discusses content around computer languages, web design, and databases, and helps with an overall comprehension of the subjects. Some sections are a little outdated and need to be improved. There could also be more hands on practicals and it would provide a physical way to enforce practical understanding, and that would help in learning in that way. The exams are frequent, and fairly simple, if you know the material that the exam is on. Some instructors are gems, but a few still provide content in the very old fashion of teaching and information delivery and instructional methods. All in all, it is ok, but I think there are ways in which it could improve and bring in worldly, real life skills.

Placement Experience

3

Our college typically initiates campus placements from the 5th semester. Companies like Infosys and Wipro, TCS, Capgemini, etc. do come to campus and the average packages are around ?3-4 LPA and the highest can be around ?7-8 LPA depending on the student, their skills, and matching requirements. Around 60-70% of students get placed while adhering to the eligibility criteria and have taken the placement training sufficiently. Personally, I am currently focus on being better at my technical skills and wish to pursue an opportunity as a software developer following my graduation.

Fees and Financial Aid

I am pursuing my BCA degree at JSPM University. I paid ?60,000 a year, and the fees included tuition fees, registration fees, and exam fees. I did not pay for other expenses beyond tuition, hostel fees, or development fees. So the total cost for three years will be approximately ?1,80,000. Up to this point, I have not seen a significant increase in fees. I did not get any scholarships. Some of my friends who are in reserved categories such as SC/ST got government scholarships. For students who are in the management quota, they pay a little more. There are merit scholarships available for students who apply in a timely manner.

Campus Life

3

The campus life is good. Our college organizes both a cultural fest and a tech fest every year, usually in February or March. They are good fun for students and a break from normal studies. The library has a satisfactory quantity of books relating to our subjects. For example, we can borrow books by borrowing them electronically from the library using our ID card; partly because just some books and/or journals are limited. The classrooms have projectors and Wi-Fi sometimes, which assist in learning. It is not the case that all classrooms will have a functional system every time. There are sports like cricket, football, and indoor games. Students can engage if they desire. There are few student clubs, like coding club, cultural club, and NSS. Many students don't join the student clubs; however, those students generally have a positive experience. The student clubs are memorable because they take the opportunity to learn new things, and also make some friends. Overall, campus life is plain Jane. It is not necessarily that exciting, but offer enough learning and a bit of fun.

Admission

I selected JSPM University because it had the BCA course I wanted, and simple and quick admission. There were a few other colleges I applied to, but they either had very high fees or were too far from my house. One college didn’t confirm admission because of low cutoff marks. JSPM accepted me based on my 12th marks, with no entrance exam involved. The admissions team was supportive and provided clear information. JSPM overall ended up being the best fit for me in terms of distance, fees, and support from staff throughout the admissions process.

Faculty

4

The teachers in the college have a friendly, supportive demeanor; Most are generally helpful, and cover the material well. Some may have a stricter outlet, but that adds a level of focus to the lectures. Several have out exaggerated little interaction, but overall the teaching has been relatively good. The number of students in a class is average and we are getting sufficient attention from our peers and instructors. The BCA course is acceptable. There are some subjects I find interesting, while others just seem fairly theoretical. It would have been better if the teaching staff added more practical training, or even real world projects for us to work on. We have two internals and 1 main external exam for each semester. Internals are easy to pass if you just attend class. But the external exams require a little more preparation for students than just attending class. I find most students pass the externals if they study well. Overall the marking system makes sense and the syllabuses is manageable.

Interview Experience

3

I got admission to JSPM University without any interview, group discussion, or written test. The process was simple and merit-based. No special preparation was required. It was smooth, quick, and hassle-free.

Night Life

3

There are no hostels in the college, so most students use rooms or pay guest accommodation nearby. After classes, the students mostly go to local cafes, tea shops, food shops, etc. nearby. Among these places, there are small shops of snacks and local bakeries where students hang out, talk, and relax. After classes, the college campus will generally close at 7 or 8 PM; this also includes the library and cafeteria. The gym opens during the day, but will close in the evening. There are also no public spaces inside the college that would stay open late. Overall, the area around the college is relatively safe, and students feel relatively confident in walking to or sitting outside in public until around 9 PM to enjoy the evening. Most students generally go home early and try to spend time just relaxing, watching movies, or talking with friends in their rooms or pay guest
