Course Curriculum Overview

4

chose to pursue B.Sc. (H) Mathematics because I had a keen interest in maths and I believe that maths graduates really have diverse options in terms of future career choices. The best thing about my course is that it involves logic and reasoning at all parts so it doesn't just increase my knowledge of the subject but also gives me a new perspective of real world situations and how to deal with them. The additional papers that one has to take can be tweaked a little bit. They feel unnecessary at some point and do not feel worth the time as I mentioned beforehand. Exams are conducted regularly. Apart from Mid semester and end semester exams, small tests happen in once in 2-3 weeks. They help the students get an idea of what to expect in the main examinations. Mid semester exams happen in October - November while end semester exams happen in December - January.

Internships Opportunities

3

Kirori Mal College offers internships through the Principal KMC Internship Scheme and its Placement Cell. The selection process for PKIS is layered and well structured so that the most deserving student gets the intership. One student can avail the PKIS only in one semester of the duration of their course. Under the college scheme, students work in areas and departments like administration, accounts, and library for three months and get a ?5,000 monthly stipend. They are selected based on marks and an interview, and they also get a certificate after completing their work. The Placement Cell also helps students get internships in companies for roles like content writing, research, marketing and business development, with stipends between ?5,000 and ?25,000 monthly. I am a first year student who doesn't have an internship experience yet.

Placement Experience

3

The placement cell of KMC works really well. Many top companies like Deloitte, EY, KPMG, and Wipro visit the campus. It also arranges internships and placement drives, making sure students are ready for jobs. Overall, KMC provides a lively atmosphere and strong career support. From 6th Semester onwards, students can sit for campus placements. The highest package was upwards of ?30 LPA and the average package is around ?6-8 LPA. Our course saw a similar average package and the highest package was ?23 LPA. Around 30% of the previous batch was placed with the rest going for higher education and other job or entrance examinations. After getting my degree, I plan to go for higher education in statistics or economics. And beyond that I have made up my mind that I want to appear for the UPSC Civil Services Examination and RBI Grade B Officer examination.

Fees and Financial Aid

The year-wise fees for B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics at Kirori Mal College is around 17,000 rupees, so around 51,000 rupees for 3 years; though the exact structure is not clearly published. Students have to pay additional fees to register for the final examinations. For SC and ST categories, the fee is reduced by up to 50%, and students from Economically Weaker Sections can avail scholarships of up to 50%, paying around ?8,000 to ?10,000 per year. The college also offers scholarships and other financial aid options to support students in need. Overall, the fee is reasonable, and the availability of scholarships ensures that deserving students can pursue their education without much financial stress.

Campus Life

4

The campus life has been really vibrant and full of life. Interaction between students is just really organic and fruitful. They get to interact with each other in various societies and cells within the college. These societies periodically hostel their respective events during October - November and March-April. The Annual Cultural fest, ‘Renaissance’ happens in March which attracts audiences from everywhere. Many students like me participate in multiple societies and cells so it gives me an opportunity to learn from my peers National Service Scheme, Centre of Innovation and Social Enterprise and Enactus are some of the club/societies that are student run and impact students by providing them opportunities to participate in public welfare. Our sports teams for various sports are really good though the facilities are not up-to-date. The participation rate in sports is exceptional as well. Many of our alumni have made it big in sports.

Admission

First of all I want to pursue Mathematics honours as it helps me get quite a few options for jobs in the government sector. I was eligible for the same course in Ramjas College and Sri Venkateswara College as well. Also I was eligible for BMS in SSCBS but I didn't see my career trajectory going that way so decided to with Kirori Mal College. It has probably the third best maths department in the University of Delhi. I applied to all the other North campus colleges for Bachelors in Economics and Maths but my cuet score wasn't that high as I was unable to perform according to my ability so I didn't get admission in SRCC, Hindu or Hansraj College. The eligibility differs from course to course. As such, there is no particular eligibility criteria. One has pass the class 12th examinations and clear the cuet cut-off. For my course, maths is compulsory as a subject in class 12th; the cut-off was around 750/1000. The admission experience was smooth. Most of the process was taken care by the University itself.

Faculty

5

The faculty to student ratio in the college is good. It is around 1:25. The teachers are extremely friendly, open to feedback and cooperative. They respond to our queries and doubts at all times. The names of the faculties I like are Dr. S.P. Tripathi, Prof. Raj Kumar, Dr. Meenu and Dr. Prempal Singh. Their teaching methods are great which lead to enriching and interactive lectures. In the tutorial class, our smallest difficulties are discussed. Dr. S.P. Tripathi and Prof. Raj Kumar are by far the best faculties. They are really approachable and experienced in the way they teach. As such, there aren't any professors that I didn't like. All of them are really good. Regular tests are conducted once in 2-3 weeks. Then a mid semester internal assessment (IA) is conducted and finally, end semester exams are conducted. The tests are not tough and are moderate at best. Around 85% successfully pass the exams. The course curriculum takes you back to focus on the basics and then elevates our pre-requisite knowledge. It is highly insightful apart from the additional papers one has to take. Those papers feel really irrelevant and not worth the time.

Night Life

4

The nightlife around KMC is vibrant yet safe, as it’s part of Delhi University’s busy North Campus. Most on-campus places like the library, gym, and cafeteria close by early evening, while hostel gates shut around 10 p.m. Students often head out afterward to chill at nearby hangouts like Hudson Lane, Kamla Nagar Market, Majnu ka Tila and Patel Chest, known for cafes such as Big Yellow Door, Woodbox Cafe. Many also enjoy evening walks at the Ridge area or relax with their friends on the campus lawns. After a long day of classes, students usually grab food, chat with friends, or attend society events(they are going on all year long). The friendly crowd and lively surroundings make KMC’s nightlife really enjoyable and help create a well-rounded and memorable college experience.

The curriculum consists of relatable topics and interesting ones as well this is what quite influenced me to take this course. We have labs which help us learn how to prepare various organic compounds which are used in many day to day products . The course also has a 4th year research program. There should be more equipments in lab for the research. The frequency is good for exams being conducted and there level is also quite good

The students become eligible for the placements provided by the college in their 3rd year, while they can pursue internship offered by the college in previous years. Average sized companies visited the campus with lots of students being placed for jobs. The highest package I am not aware of but lowest was of around 300000 pa. I plan to pursue masters after my graduation degree.

Students become eligible for campus placements from the 6th semester. I don't know a lot about campus placements but I know that there is a training and placement cell in our college that provides good packages to many students. Some students got more than 7lpa last year. I will be doing my Post graduation after college and will make a career in academics.
