Likes
- Peers are good, almost all the students have good academics. Since your peers are perpetually involved in various pursuits, it pushes you to do better.
- The North Campus advantage is highly regarded. Several of India's other best colleges are located in close proximity, and they offer great exposure.
- KMC's unique selling point is its alumni network, which includes the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Shakti Kapoor, Naveen Patnaik etc
Dislikes
- The infrastructure is crumbling, there are serious safety concerns among students regarding the fragility of the buildings. Just the last week we had parts of a rooftop collapsing onto the floor.
- The hostel is quite good, but availability of seats is limited.
- Annual election seasons are a very bad time to be on campus as they often interfere with your daily college life.
Course Curriculum Overview
Curriculum is decided by the university and is not too rigorous. However with NEP coming, you have to study three 2-credit courses every semester, which is not a very enjoyable experience. Most of these smaller courses are of little value from a higher education standpoint.
Internships Opportunities
Internships are facilitated by the internship cell, and again mostly depend upon your achievements on an individual level, especially during the college times. Internships are hard to come by during the first year, but you stand a good chance from the second year.
Placement Experience
Students in the final year can opt for placements. Placements mostly depend upon how good your CV is on an individual level. Most of the recruitment happens on two domains, i.e. finance and consulting. Companies visited include LEK, Bain and Co, DE Shaw, ZS Associates etc
Fees and Financial Aid
Annual fees amounts to Rs 17115, (for general category) which is fairly low as it is subsidised by the government. Students can opt for various merit based scholarships offered at the university as well as college level.
Campus Life
Infrastructure seems to be aging badly, and a lot of the students regularly raise concerns regarding their safety on campus due to this situation. The library and reading rooms are fairly big, and the collection of books is quite extensive. The Wi-Fi facility on campus though is not good at all. Sports infrastructure is quite good. Societies are extremely active and can help you develop as an individual.
Admission
Admissions happend through CSAS UG counseling conducted at the university level. CUET is the entrance exam you have to take for admissino to any central university. Cutoffs are generally on the higher side for North Campus colleges. Subject combinations you take in CUET depend on your course preferences.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio should be around 1:20. All the faculties are qualified well enough but more often than not are bad at communicating their ideas in a clear and concise fashion. Most of them are approachable and help you out with academics in any ways possible. Internal assessments depend on the professors who conduct them, and university exams are mostly on a moderate level.
Night Life
College has a gym and two canteens. The college campus has a closing time of 6.30 for pretty much all ameniteis. The boroughs surrounding North Campus (Kamla Nagar, Vijay Nagar) etc are lively all throughout the day and offer student housing too. It is a fairly safe part as Delhi standards go, since it is mostly populated by students.
