Jalpaiguri Govt Engineering College

The college is good as its a self regulatory College (autonomous). The lab facilities in our department can be improved which is happening as they are construction is going on for a bigger library etc.

We have 8 semesters in B. Tech in the 4 year course. In each semesters we have 5-6 subjects.Odd sem starts from July-August and ends in December. Even sem starts from January and ends in April. It is an autonomous college but still it follows WBUT syllabus.Course curriculum mainly focusses on core subjects in IT.Previously the course curricullum included non IT subjects in 1st year but now its removed by our college as its a autonomous college.

The companies like Cognizant, and other mncs come to our college. The placement in our college is above average. Like previous year only CTS took 83 students from our college. The college doesnt provide direct internships but we can talk to corresponding HODs of the department for the internship and they will help you to get an internship both research and industrial.

There are many college fests both cultural and tech fests happens in our college. I would rate college events as 9/10 as there are ample amount of events happens in our college. The cultural fest called JECLAT ranks 3rd in West bengal. The tech fest like sristi also happens in our college.

The fee structure of the college is feasible as compared to other premium colleges. Like the per semester tuition fees of IT is only Rs. 12000. So it isnt expensive as it's a government college. But the IT fees is costlier than other departments in our college as the IT department is the newest department created compared to other departments in our college.

The college conduct scholarship programme every year in which the student whose family income is less than 2.5 lacs per annum can apply. After the application the college conducts an interview of every student individually. Based on the performance on the interview and their performance in studies they provide full fee waiver and half fee waiver in which full tuition fees and half tuition fees of the student is waived.

There are many extra curricular activities happens in our college other than course curricullum like dance programme, debate, quizzes etc. There is a sports programme which happens annually and also inter college sports like cricket happens in our college. The labs and other facilities are good.

There is also alumni programme which happens in our college annually. In which many of the successful alumnies comes to our college and conduct a seminar in which they share their experiences and guide the students on the basis of their experiences.

Firstly the WBUT board conduct an entrance exam called WBJEE and based on the performance of that we apply for counselling in which we provide our preference in decreasing order of your choices of college and course in WBUT (aka MAKAUT) board. And after that the board allot a college to you according to the merit list and the choices you have provided and I got alloted to JGEC (Jalpaiguri govt Engineering College) in IT.

In IT the faculties are little lesser as compared to other departments but all the faculties present are good.The teaching skills of all the faculties are also good.The college authorities has told us that they will increase the no. of faculties in the coming years.
