Course Curriculum Overview

5

Updated to align with NEP-2020 guidelines starting from 2023 onward. CSE (AI & DS) branch includes modern subjects like Data Science, Machine Learning, Python, Cloud basics. Core branches (ECE, ME, EE, CE) follow standard Indian engineering frameworks with essential subjects. Syllabus similar to other govt engineering colleges under HP Tech University, so fairly up to date.

Fees and Financial Aid

Admission Fee ? 500 Identity Card Fee ? 200 Library Fee ? 200 Institutional Security (maybe one-time / refundable) ? 2,000 Library Security (if any) ? 2,000 Medical Fee ? 300 Other small recurring funds (NCC/NSS/Internet etc.) ~ ? (multiple small items: e.g. 100, 1,000, 1,500 etc.) “Campus Development / Student Amalgamated Fund / Annual Insurance / Other Institutional Funds” Varying ? amounts, listed among charges. Tuition Fee (per semester) ? 15,000 University / Registration / Examination / Practical / University-related Fee (per semester) Part of the “other charges” — aggregated under “Grand Total” in the schedule. Grand Total per semester (for that schedule) ? 28,020 (for some semesters) and ? 31,220 (for others) depending on semester.

Campus Life

5

My overall campus life at Rajiv Gandhi Government Engineering College (RGGEC) Nagrota Bagwan has been a balanced mix of academics, social interactions, and personal growth. The environment is peaceful, surrounded by hills, which makes it quite different from highly crowded city colleges. --- ???? Social Life RGGEC is not a very large campus, so most students know each other across branches and batches. This creates a friendly, supportive environment instead of a highly competitive one.

Admission

Compared to most private colleges in Himachal and nearby states, RGGEC offered: Much lower fees (government-approved fee structure) Zero exploitation through hidden charges Strong ROI, especially for core engineering branches The affordability combined with a stable academic environment made it an ideal choice for my family.

Faculty

5

RGGEC lists staff (administrative + non-teaching) on its website; for example clerks, lab attendants, data-entry staff, etc. For teaching staff, department-wise faculty exists (e.g. for Civil Engineering, there are course coordinators / assistant professors) as evident from the internal syllabus/teaching scheme documents. According to student reviews on external sites: some students say that “the faculty members … have done Ph.D.s in their subjects.” But reviews are mixed: in one 2023 review, a student said that while faculty exist, they felt teaching was focused just toward passing exams rather than deep technical knowledge; labs had infrastructure but allegedly lesser active usage. Another student (2023, Civil Engg.) gave moderately positive feedback about faculty & curriculum.

Interview Experience

5

Yes, my admission process included a selection round. After submitting the application, I had to go through a Group Discussion (GD) followed by a Personal Interview (PI). There was no written test for my program. Group Discussion: The GD was mainly to assess communication skills, clarity of thought, and how well we could present our ideas. Topics were mostly current-affairs based, and the panel checked how confidently and logically we spoke. Interview: The PI focused on my academic background, basic subject knowledge from Class 12th, and questions around why I chose this course and this college. They also evaluated my overall personality and confidence.

Night Life

5

Hostel entry: Usually around 8:30 PM – 9:00 PM Library: Open till evening hours; not late night Canteen/Cafeteria: Mostly closes by 7:00 PM Gym & indoor areas: Close by 7:30 PM Inside campus, late-night movement is limited due to security and safety protocols.

Placement Experience:

At NIT Hamirpur, students become eligible for campus placements from the 7th semester onwards, and the placement scenario has been quite encouraging in recent years. A wide range of companies such as Infosys, Wipro, L\&T, Capgemini, Tata Projects, and several core as well as IT firms visit the campus every year. The highest placement touched an impressive 2.05 crore offered to a mechanical engineering student, while the overall average package stands at around 10.5 LPA, which is a strong figure compared to many other NITs. The placement percentage remains high, with a majority of students securing offers, especially in branches like CSE, IT, and ECE, though core branches like civil and mechanical also receive good opportunities. The profiles offered include roles in software development, consulting, design, project engineering, and research. After completing my degree, I plan to take advantage of these placement opportunities to gain solid industry experience and later decide whether to pursue higher studies or competitive exams for broader career growth.
