Positives - Infrastructure , Faculty , Campus placements Negatives - It's actually quite far off from the city of Chennai , roughly 30kms from Chennai Central , A ship simulator is a thing which you are certainly going to miss here , apart from that what can be a con for someone is that during the first year of our training there are a lot of restrictions levied upon the candidates , although it's only for our good and for our personality development.

The Curriculum is in line with the International Maritime Organisation's recommendations. A Cadet gets to study everything that he needs to , in order to be a competent mariner. Coming to Exams , there are 2 end semester exams in each year along with 2 internal exams in each semester. A Cadet needs to score 50% in order to pass the exam.

The placements and job opportunities are quite good considering the overall market scenario , Around 50-60% of the cadets get placed in companies like Fleet management , Synergy , Shipping Corporation of India etc. Our college doesn't provide internships , however there are some ship visits , port visits and workshops so that the cadets can garner some on field experience

We have cultural and sports events like "Hindi Pakhwada" , Nautica , IMU Day etc. There are various other events held in the campus and there are always lots of cash prizes to be won.Our college mates also get to participate in the events organised by other marine training colleges as well as other Central Universities. Various imminent personalities also visit our campus from time to time. The convocation too is quite amazing considering Central government minister Mr.Nitin Gadkari has been a guest here.

The fee structure is quite feasible , the total fees for an year is ?2,25,000 excluding examination fees. This fee includes Hostel fees , Barber fees , Stationery items , Uniform fees , Mess fees and everything else you could need.

The University gives away scholarships to Toppers of each course , the topper gets ?100,000 , the top ten percentiles get ?75,000 each followed by ?50,000 each to the next ten percentile students. One can also get education loans from banks easily depending on their family income etc

Extra curriculars include Sports like Football , Cricket , Swimming , Volleyball , Badminton etc. There is also a Gym for the students , Swimming instructor is also appointed by the administration of the campus. Coming to Labs , the college is well equipped with all scientific as well as nautical labs and workshops , Marine engineering workshop is well equipped , Library has a ton of books. Except for a Simulator , we pretty much have everything in our college.

Actually it's a training academy so staying in the hostels is the only option. The infrastructure is as good as any other Central University in India. Sports facilities to Toilets everything is quite satisfactory , The rooms are spacious enough and well equipped , any complaints are adhered to by the administration. First year students are given a separate hostel so as to protect them from any type of ragging. There are three hostels in our campus , all three are well maintained and good for students.

The alumni in this field are quite vital , they help us cope according to the market requirements. They share their experiences with us, The shipping industry's conditions etc , we get to know quite a lot from our seniors. It is our seniors who help us during our placements too so their contributions can't be ignored.

I had to apply for Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test aka IMUCET which is a pan India Online Entrance Test , after which I had to pay the counselling fees of ?10,000 and I was assigned a college according to my preference and my rank in the CET. Finally Candidates need to pay ?25000 in order to confirm the seat alloted to them.

The faculty of our college is perfect , We have Captains and a ton of experienced mariners who have sailed as a sailor themselves. Our campus has been producing the most toppers in the University examinations , so all this speaks for itself
