What Students Say
Likes
- Lancaster University offered an hybrid model for studies in which along with the physical classes the recorded lectures were also provided for revising the lectures. Also if you are not able to attend any lecture you can do it later at your preferred time which I liked the most.
- Lancaster University offered extra help for international students they prepared and educated them of the challenges any individual can face during there time and provided us with the information of where we could get help from such as financial advice sessions , career preparation sessions , MATH session which is revision session for critical modules such as mathematics and statistics.
- Lancaster University offered extra support for females and mothers. I was a mother of 2 year old when I went for my studies. They offered flexibility also on campus pre school facility for kids which gave me proper time for my studies and achieve a great success in my degree.
Dislikes
- Lancaster University campus offered limited food options and because of that students need to visit the city centre frequently for fulfilling there needs.
- At Lancaster university comparatively limited placements opportunities are their students need to do their own research and work if they want to get a job after they finish there studies.
- Lancaster University is comparatively expensive in terms of tuition fees and accommodation fees which is why students prefer to find accommodation in city centre.
Course Curriculum
- It was a mix of both theoretical lectures followed by self learning workshops in which practical is done by students themselves.
- It was not at all easy but is doable when you focus and understand.
Admission Experience
-
Applied colleges :
Warwick University (rejected)
Birmingham University (waitlisted)
Manchester University(rejected)
Lancaster University(Accepted + interviewed) -
I was rejected due to high cut off criteria for admissions in big universities.I applied in all universities which were big names in this domain but I was quite late and in few they closed the registration and added me to the waiting list pool.
-
Top 10 in Uk.Had a high qs ranking (In top 150 globally) I was interviewed and my Ielts was waived off as I scored 80 plus marks in english in my 12th board exams followed by an english checking interview. It was smooth and easy I didn't faces any challenges there. The overall admission process was made very easy starting from registration to creating IT accounts and modules and moodle signups everything was well explained.

September Intake. It tool me 2-3 months.
-
Initially when I planned to do my masters I selected and shortilisted universities.I prepared the statement of purpose and the course which I wanter to pursue. This took me a month. After that I started applying to the universities waited for an another month for their responses.Once I start getting my response lancaster University I got my conditional offer letter which was based on the condition of proving a fluency in english language.Lancaster university gave a deal that if I have scored 80% or more marks in my 12 from CBSE board then I dont need to give IELTS and I just need to give an interview to prove that I have fluency in english language. From unconditional to conditional it took me 1.5 months and thus I got my offer and accepted it for september intake. I choose it because It has a QS ranking of 122 globally and Top 10 in UK.
Class Schedule
- Average number of students is 80 students in the class.
- Approximately there are 20 students which were indian. In a day generally 3-4 classes but someday only 1 or 2 someday a off.
Faculty
- I admire my Forecasting professor he was so experienced and helpful in not just his module but in overall even for finding the projects on forecasting modules.
- Teaching methodology is what i admire the most the teaching or the teacher is focuses on just explaining but their main objective is that the student learn the concept and apply it by their own thus all the lectures are followed by the workshops in which a task is given which is performed by individual students and then explained by professors.
Campus Life
- Just 1 campus but a big one.
- This included multiple locations of in house colleges ,ruskin library ,Lancaster sports centre,Lancaster university medical health facility, pre school, spar supermarket, various food outlets, breakfast places and costa caffe, restaurants, etc were available and the restore thrift store , WH smith ,post office for the need of stationary.
Part Time Jobs
-
5% of the student received TA, pay range was 13 gbp per hour .The on campus jobs are limited and also the pay is comparatively less then what is offered in the city.
-
For students a limited hours mostly 15-16 hours per week are allowed. It is mainly depend on the availability for securing a campus part time job. Also due to limited options it is pretty difficult.
-
12-15 gbp per hour it somewhat easy if you search jobs in nearby cities and the lancaster city centre itself. Mainly jobs are listed online and various store or outlets paste the vacancy add outside the shops also another way is to distribute your resume to the potential employers so when needed they can immediately contact you. Also you do walkins and ask for the job requirements or the potential where they can aspect.
Placement
- 30% of the students.Students have to do there own work, make resumes and find jobs on the portals like linkedin etc.
- Finding a job immediately after graduation is a challenge and could cost you may be an year after you graduate. And getting hired is a big achievement.
- There are very limited opportunities for graduates as these programmes need to do exams and get a pass.
Accommodation
- University accommodation is best here which is convenient as well.1000 gbp approximately 1 lakh inr.
- Yes I recommend using university accommodation in campus as they offer security and other services and also have porters office for emergency contact or needs. It was in the campus itself where if i go downstairs the lecture halls were 2 mins walk.
- The only challenge is that it is expensive then what u will get outside of campus but it is vert convenient to stay on campus and save time for studies.
Exams
- IELTS,Statement of purpose, minimum 2-3 LOR could be from your previous employers or from your school or college professors .
- Interview is needed only when it is needed otherwise it is not a mandatory step.Interview was conducted by one of there staff members the motive was to understand that if the student able to communicate in english and able to understand it .
- Mainly because british has accent in speaking which makes it quit difficult to understand
Fees
- Tutions fees -26985 gbp which is now equivalent to approx 30 lakhs Accommodation fees for a family flat for 56 weeks contract was - approx 12 lakhs with a deposit of 271 gbp approximately 30K which is refunded when student leave the flat.
- Fees is charged as per the convenience I was sponsored so I did full one time payment.
- Monthly living expenses are around 500 gbp which is 50k INR.
Scholarship
- There are limited options for scholarships and they have so much conditions to give a scholarship so there is limited options.
- A few students receive scholarship that too is just 1000 gbp which is approximately 1 lakh waive off on tuition fees otherwise students do part time jobs for funding there living expenses during there stay in lancaster.
- None of my bath mate receive any scholarships
