What Students Say
Likes
- The faculties are knowledgeable and helpful in academics.
- Good placement opportunities are provided, mostly unpaid, still worth the experience.
- The class schedules are not hectic, providing ample time for studies and part time work.
Dislikes
- The accommodation in this area is generally expensive, but campus accommodation is way too expensive.
- The campus life is not that lively. You need to find time outside of your study hours and part time work hours, which was a bit disappointing.
Course Curriculum
- The course is updated, and the syllabus is aligned with the professional standards of practice. The placement module was mandatory to complete the course; the university provides placement opportunities, and we are free to find our own placements as well. The dissertation module is also there in the syllabus, which accounts for the much-needed research exposure. Typically, in a week, there will be classes on two days.
- For me, I had classes on Monday and Tuesday from 09 to 04/05 pm. There is a week every month when the classes will be strictly online too. The average number of students varies from 20 to 30. In my class, there were 26 students.
Admission Experience
- Good faculty was one of the main reasons I chose this University; it is a well-reputed University in the UK. It also had further higher education in the field that I chose, other than a simple PhD. The classes were flexible, only two days a week.
- They look at the previous grades in your bachelor's if you are applying for a master's programme. I had a CGPA of 8.15 in my bachelor's. I had an overall band score of 8 in the IELTS examination. I assume they need students with a band score above 6.
Faculty
- One faculty for thirty students is the ratio. The faculty and staff are really helpful and very approachable. Dr. Sarah Brown was one of the staff that left a deep impression on me.
Campus Life
- There are two campus maily FRENCHAY campus and the GLENSIDE campus. Glenside campus mainly have medical related courses, and all the other courses are in frenchay campus.
- The Glenside campus infrastructure is an ancient English university structure. While the Frenchay campus has modern architecture, both campuses have modern facilities. There are several societies on campus for extracurricular activities, like the dance society, etc. The campus has a vast library on about two or three floors. There are several sports facilities on the campus.
Part Time Jobs
- There will be plenty of work opportunities on and off campus. One must be ready to take on any role and do it efficiently. The university student hub website will post about any openings on campus for part-time, there is also student ambassador programmes that any of them can utilise for experience and pay.
- Almost everywhere, people above the age of 20 they pay minimum wage as starting pay per hour. The minimum wage is revised each year. The people below the age of 20 will get slightly less pay than the minimum wage per hour. Almost two or three students from each class secure part-time jobs in campus itself. Although it is very rare for them to secure other positions.
Placement
- Finding full time job in the same field is very difficult, there is too much competition, and often the recruitment officers will hire people with good experience and understanding of the existing systems, for me NHS. Most of my classmates were already employed in certain healthcare settings and were studying the course part time.
- The foreign international students will find it difficult to get through the NHS, as the hiring process itself will take around three to five months to process. It is mostly chance and luck to get a job in the same field. Most of the students there work as carers or in other fields, which will provide them with a work visa.
Accommodation
- After you secure the offer letter, the embassy will add students going to the same university to one WhatsApp group where you can mingle and ask doubts regarding the university. It is easier to befriend people based on their introduction. It is advisable to reach out to members in the same course or even the same community and look for housing options together. The rent in Bristol is very expensive. So it is suggested that you have other housemates to join you in the house, the rent will be too high. For a single person, one room is about 800 pounds, but if you rent a home together with friends, it will be reduced to 450 or 400. In university groups itself there will be ads for housing. My rent was around 450, including water, wifi, gas, and electricity bills. The house had all facilities like heating systems, a bed and furniture, a washing machine, etc.
Exams
- An IELTS examination is required. Statement of purpose, LOR, CV, degree certificates, and degree transcripts are needed.
Fees
- Total tuition fees for my program were 16,500 pounds. If we add the visa charge, the health surcharge fees, and other costs, it will be around 22,000 pounds. We need to show about 24,000 pounds in our bank before going to the UK.
