JMI B.Tech CSE (Data Science) FAQs
Ques. Is the B.Tech CSE (Data Science) at JMI a government-funded or self-financed program?
Ans. It is a self-financed program introduced in 2024. Unlike the regular B.Tech programs at JMI (which cost around Rs. 19,225/year), this program costs Rs. 1,52,875 per year. However, it is still offered by a Central University (JMI), which means the quality of faculty, infrastructure, and degree value is equivalent to the regular programs.
Ques. Can I get admission to JMI B.Tech CSE (Data Science) without a very high JEE Main rank?
Ans. Yes, relatively. Since this is a self-financed program, the cutoff ranks tend to be higher (more relaxed) compared to the regular B.Tech programs. For example, in 2025, the General category cutoff for CSED (Data Science) was around 24,846 (1st list) and 53,763 (2nd list) based on JEE Main CRL rank. Muslim Minority category students have even more relaxed cutoffs.
Ques. What is the difference between B.Tech Computer Engineering (regular) and B.Tech CSE (Data Science) (self-financed) at JMI?
Ans. The regular B.Tech Computer Engineering is a government-funded program with a fee of Rs. 19,225/year and focuses on core computer engineering. The B.Tech CSE (Data Science) is self-financed at Rs. 1,52,875/year and has a specialized curriculum focused on data science, AI, ML, and related fields. Both are offered by the same Faculty of Engineering and Technology.
Ques. Does JMI provide hostel facilities for B.Tech CSE (Data Science) students?
Ans. Yes, JMI has hostel facilities on campus for both male and female students. However, hostel accommodation is not guaranteed and is allotted on a first-come, first-served basis subject to availability. Hostel fees are charged separately and are not included in the course fee.
Ques. What kind of jobs can I get after B.Tech CSE (Data Science) from JMI?
Ans. Graduates can pursue roles such as Data Scientist, Data Analyst, Machine Learning Engineer, AI Engineer, Business Intelligence Analyst, NLP Engineer, and Data Engineer. Top recruiters at JMI's FET include companies like Walmart Global Tech, Zomato, JP Morgan, Accenture, TCS, Siemens, and Bharat Electronics Ltd. The program is specifically designed to align with the booming AI and data science job market in India.
Ques. Since this program was introduced in 2024, how do I assess its quality and future prospects?
Ans. While the program is new, it is backed by JMI's strong academic reputation (NAAC A++, NIRF Rank 3 among universities), experienced faculty from the Department of Computer Engineering, and a curriculum designed in line with current industry demands. The existing B.Tech Computer Engineering program at JMI has a strong placement record (median package of Rs. 13.78 LPA in 2024, highest at Rs. 22 LPA). As the Data Science specialization matures, placement outcomes are expected to be comparable or better given the high demand for data science professionals.
