NIT Goa: 10 Answered Questions

Can I get NIT Goa with OBC rank around 11000?

Shantanu TrivediStudied at the National Institute of Technology, Goa

It's difficult to predict your chances of getting admission to the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Goa with an OBC rank around 11,000 as the cutoff for admission to the institute varies each year and depends on several factors, including the number of applicants, the difficulty level of the exam, and the availability of seats in each program.

However, based on the previous year's cutoff trends, it is unlikely that you will be able to get admission to NIT Goa with an OBC rank around 11,000. Typically, candidates who secure a rank within 5,000 have a higher chance of securing a seat in the institute.

It's important to note that meeting the cutoff score is only one of the eligibility criteria for admission to NIT Goa. The institute considers other factors such as the candidate's academic performance, the number of applicants for a program, and the reservation policies, among others, for final admission decisions.

You can check the official website of NIT Goa to get the previous year's cutoff scores for the OBC category and get an idea of your chances of admission. Additionally, you can also keep an eye on the institute's admission notifications and cutoff scores to stay updated on the admission process.

Can I get NIT Goa with a 97 score?

Debdeep Majumder
Shantanu TrivediStudied at the National Institute of Technology, Goa

Admission to the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Goa is highly competitive and is based on a candidate's performance in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main. The JEE Main exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and is held twice a year.

The admission process at NIT Goa is based on a candidate's JEE Main score and rank in the JEE Main exam. The JEE Main score is calculated based on a candidate's performance in the entrance exam and their marks in their 12th board exams in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM). This is a mandatory requirement for admission to any NIT.

It is difficult to predict whether a score of 97 in JEE Main will be sufficient to secure admission to NIT Goa. The cutoff for NIT Goa varies each year based on factors such as the number of candidates who have applied, the difficulty level of the exam, and the availability of seats. Typically, a percentile of 97-98 or higher is required to have a good chance of securing admission to an NIT.

It's important to note that admission to NITs is highly competitive, and candidates need to perform exceptionally well in the JEE Main exam to secure a seat. In addition to a high score, candidates must also meet the eligibility criteria set by the institute and provide all required documentation as part of the admission process.

My rank in the JEE Mains is 11900. Can I get a CS in NIT Goa or should I look some other options?

Sanovar Lohia
Akshita MohantyStudied at Electronics and Communication Engineering, NIT Bhopal (2018)

I have a few friends from the institute and according to them with a rank of 11900 in JEE Mains it will be difficult to get into CSE at NIT Goa. You should look for other colleges in order to get into your preferred branch. Here is the cutoff of NIT Goa for 2021.

B.Tech branches General
Home State  Outside State
Civil Engineering  87610 31362-35494
Computer Science and Engineering  14581 7420-10323
Electrical & Electronics Engineering  73349 19728-21121
Electronics and Communication Engineering  34058 - 53405 14553 - 16711
Mechanical Engineering  82553 - 83783 23542 - 26295

Look for the previous year's cutoff on the previous JEE main website, which will give a pretty rough idea about what branch and college you can get into. However, I will not recommend NIT Goa for CSE. Since it is a new college and no big or well-known companies come there for placements. Infrastructure and resources are not as par according to NIT standards. You can also try some private universities such as BITS, Thapar, VIT, or MIT.

Can I get any branch in NIT Goa, Jaipur, or Delhi if my JEE Mains rank is 180k (I am in the general category)?

Ritam YashuB.Tech in ECE from NIT, Patna (2019)

It's nearly impossible to get any branch in any of the colleges mentioned above. The colleges mentioned above are all NITs in particular NIT Goa, NIT Jaipur, and NIT Delhi.

None of the NITs open admission for the rank of around 180k so it would be better if you should prepare well and appear for the exam in the next year or take admission in any private college. There's no chance that any NIT would offer admission for 180k rank.

Can I get a seat at NIT Goa with 145 marks in the JEE Mains?

Daanish SinghStudying from Galgotias College of Engineering & Technology, Greater Noida (2021)

It is not mentioned in your question whether the home state of Goa is applicable for you or not. Not only this, the category from which you belong is also not mentioned in the question (General/OBC/SC/ST).

However, I would try my best to provide you with a suitable answer based on official data for the past few years, the total number of seats vacant, and the various departments available at the institution.

  • You can easily get enrolled in a better NIT like many of the older ones.
  • You can surely try to opt for other courses at the older NITs as it would be extremely beneficial for your career.
  • I would suggest that you do not lose hope after the seventh round of counselling.
  • There would be a special round to fill up vacant seats at the NITs and IIITs.
  • For this round, you are required to submit a fee of INR 1,000 along with the online application form on the CSAB portal.
  • Fill in your desired branch and colleges once more; vacant slots can be seen at the portal.

I am quite confident you'll receive the branch you want after the special round. You can refer to the cutoff details available on various websites to estimate the chances of your getting admission to one of the courses offered by the institution.
