NMIMS FMBA FAQs
Ques. Who is the FMBA program at NMIMS designed for? Can anyone apply?
Ans. The FMBA is specifically designed for owner-entrepreneurs and family members who are actively involved in running family-managed businesses (SMEs). It is NOT a general management program open to all graduates. Applicants must have at least 2 years of business experience in a family business. If you are a fresh graduate or a salaried professional without family business involvement, this program may not be the right fit.
Ques. How is the FMBA different from the MBA (Entrepreneurship and Family Business) at NMIMS?
Ans. The FMBA is a 1-year part-time weekend program specifically for those already running family businesses, while the MBA (Entrepreneurship and Family Business) is a 2-year full-time program for those who want to build entrepreneurial and family business management skills from scratch. The FMBA is more practical and business-specific, while the MBA is more comprehensive and academically rigorous.
Ques. What is the class schedule for the FMBA program? How many days per week?
Ans. The FMBA follows a weekend format - classes are held on Saturdays and Sundays, 6 hours each day, over 32 weekends across the 1-year program. This allows participants to continue managing their businesses on weekdays without disruption.
Ques. What is the compulsory project in the FMBA program?
Ans. Every FMBA participant must complete a detailed project on their own family business, including a comprehensive SWOT analysis. This project is a compulsory requirement for program completion. It is presented in class, offering a great peer learning opportunity. The project helps participants apply management concepts directly to their own business context.
Ques. Is the FMBA degree/certificate from NMIMS recognized? What credential do participants receive?
Ans. Upon successful completion, participants receive a certificate/diploma from NMIMS Deemed-to-be University (PDSE & FBM). While it is not a full MBA degree, it carries the NMIMS brand and is recognized in the business community. The program is listed under NMIMS's executive programs and is valued for its practical, business-focused curriculum.
Ques. What is the typical profile of FMBA participants at NMIMS? What industries do they come from?
Ans. FMBA participants typically come from diverse family business backgrounds including manufacturing, trading, retail, real estate, food and beverage, and services. Alumni include entrepreneurs who have gone on to scale their businesses significantly, such as Pankaj Bansal (M3M Group), Karan Chugh (7th Heaven Desserts), and others. The peer network of 6,000+ family business alumni is one of the key benefits of the program.
