SRMIST BALLB FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between BALLB and LLB, and which should I choose?
Ans. BALLB (Bachelor of Arts + Bachelor of Law) is a 5-year integrated program combining liberal arts education with law, providing a broader perspective and better communication skills. LLB is a 3-year law degree typically pursued after graduation. BALLB is ideal if you want a well-rounded education with strong foundational knowledge in both arts and law. Choose BALLB if you are entering directly after 12th grade and want comprehensive legal education.
Ques. Is CLAT mandatory for admission to BALLB at SRM, or can I take SRMJEEL?
Ans. Both CLAT and SRMJEEL are accepted for admission to BALLB at SRM. CLAT is the national-level entrance exam accepted by multiple law schools, while SRMJEEL is SRM's own entrance exam. You can choose either exam based on your preference. CLAT scores are also accepted through the national counselling process.
Ques. What are the career prospects for BALLB graduates in India versus abroad?
Ans. In India, BALLB graduates can work as corporate lawyers, litigation advocates, legal consultants, and in-house counsels with a median salary of 5 lakhs per annum. Abroad, particularly in countries like USA, UK, Canada, and Australia, lawyers earn significantly higher salaries (50,000-150,000 USD annually) and have better career growth opportunities. However, working abroad requires additional qualifications and bar exam clearance in that country.
Ques. Does the BALLB program include internships, and are they mandatory?
Ans. Yes, the BALLB program includes mandatory internships and practical training. Students gain experience in leading law firms, corporate legal departments, and government organizations. These internships are typically unpaid or offer minimal stipend but provide invaluable practical experience in real legal settings. The internship experience significantly enhances employability and helps students develop professional networks.
Ques. What specializations or electives are available within the BALLB program?
Ans. The BALLB curriculum at SRM includes exposure to various specializations through elective courses and practical training. Students can focus on corporate law, criminal law, constitutional law, human rights law, intellectual property law, or other specialized areas. The program allows flexibility in choosing electives based on career interests and pursuing research projects in specialized areas of law.
Ques. What is the scope for further studies after BALLB, such as LLM or specialized certifications?
Ans. BALLB graduates can pursue LLM (Master of Laws) programs for specialization in specific areas of law. Additionally, graduates can pursue specialized certifications such as Certified Legal Specialist, Arbitration Certification, or other professional certifications. Many BALLB graduates from SRM pursue advanced degrees or certifications to enhance their career prospects and expertise. The program provides a strong foundation for further academic and professional development in law.
