PESU MBA (HHCM) FAQs
Ques. Is a medical or healthcare background required to apply for MBA Hospital and Healthcare Management at PES University?
Ans. No, a medical or healthcare background is not mandatory. Any graduate with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks from a UGC-recognized university is eligible to apply. However, students from life sciences, pharmacy, nursing, MBBS, BDS, or allied health sciences backgrounds often find the curriculum more relatable and may have an advantage during placements in clinical operations and medical affairs roles.
Ques. When is the Hospital and Healthcare Management specialization chosen, and can I switch to another specialization later?
Ans. The specialization is not chosen at the time of admission. Students complete the core curriculum in Trimesters 1 to 3, and the Healthcare Management specialization is chosen from Trimester 4 onwards based on interest and academic performance. Switching after Trimester 4 is generally not permitted, so students are advised to make an informed decision after experiencing the core curriculum.
Ques. What kinds of organizations recruit MBA Healthcare Management graduates from PES University?
Ans. Healthcare Management graduates are recruited by hospital chains (Apollo, Fortis, Manipal, Narayana Health), healthcare consulting firms (Deloitte Healthcare Practice, KPMG), pharmaceutical companies (Cipla, Sun Pharma), and diagnostic organizations (Thyrocare). Typical roles include Hospital Manager, Healthcare Administrator, Clinical Operations Manager, Healthcare Consultant, and Medical Affairs Manager. The average package range is INR 6.5 to 9.5 LPA.
Ques. How does the MBA Healthcare Management program at PESU differ from a standalone MHA (Master of Hospital Administration) degree?
Ans. The MBA Healthcare Management at PESU is a broader management degree with a healthcare specialization, covering all core management subjects (finance, marketing, HR, operations) in addition to healthcare-specific courses. An MHA is a specialized degree focused exclusively on hospital administration. The MBA provides more versatility, allowing graduates to work in both healthcare and non-healthcare management roles, while an MHA is more narrowly focused on hospital operations.
Ques. Does PES University offer internship support for MBA Healthcare Management students, and are they paid?
Ans. Yes, a mandatory 8 to 10 week internship is conducted between Trimester 3 and Trimester 4. PES University facilitates healthcare internship placements through its corporate partnerships with hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, and healthcare consulting firms. Internship stipends typically range from INR 30,000 to INR 50,000 per month. High-performing interns often receive Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs).
Ques. Is MBA Hospital and Healthcare Management at PESU a good option for someone who wants to work in healthcare startups or health-tech companies?
Ans. Yes, Bengaluru's thriving health-tech and healthcare startup ecosystem makes PESU an excellent base for students targeting healthcare startups and health-tech companies. The PESU Venture Labs (PVL) with USD 500,000 annual funding also supports entrepreneurially inclined students who want to build healthcare ventures. The broader MBA curriculum in analytics, marketing, and finance complements the healthcare specialization for health-tech roles.
