What Students Say
Likes
- It had a vibrant atmosphere and there were always college activities going on
- Engaging for international students and Indian festivals
- Environment friendly and people always caring and helpful
Dislikes
- The coursework is kinda dry from a masters perspective
- The professors are solely focused on their own stuff and sometimes neglect classes with large students
- The playing area is often crowded that is good and bad at the same time
Course Curriculum
- The course was average and not too difficult. It was mostly theory and a mix of both negative and positive feelings.
- If you are looking for a more practical exposure to electrical engineering I would suggest going to a more better Uni but from a phd perspective I would recommend buffalo university.
Admission Experience
-
University of Cincinnati, buffalo, Dallas. I was rejected by Cincinnati and Dallas and accepted by buffalo. The reason I was rejected by Cincinnati and Dallas was because I applied to CS by mistake. Should have applied to electrical. Because I had done my undergrad in electrical and pursuing masters in computer science doesn’t make sense at all. Also the letters of recommendation were given by the electrical department

The reason I chose this college over others was because of the balance between atmosphere and studies. The fees was comparatively less compared to other universities and the coursework got me involved. The accepted exams for this university are SAT, gmat , gre and ielts. I gave gre and Toefl. The minimum scores are 310 and 85 in fee and Toefl respectively. No challenges whatsoever in the admission experience and the whole process was very smooth and straightforward

Fall 2023 and factors like timeline and other issues made me want to take this course. The admission process took 2-3 weeks. I applied during the month of 12 November 2022 and got admit on march 2023. Accepted the offer on august and came to buffalo in august 18th. I wanted to come to US immediately and this was one of the main reasons to join fall 2023 batch.
Class Schedule
- Around 4 classes are scheduled in a day and the timings are from 9-5 pm.
- The average number of students in the class ranges from 15-40 and depends on the course .
- Around 15 Indians are enrolled in electrical engineering in the university of buffalo.
Faculty
- The ratio is 1:7 and this ratio is because many students come to buffalo im university.
- The teaching methodology is purely theory and most of the profs course content comes from the research they did as a phd student. I wouldn’t say it’s entirely sufficient to get a job in the industry considering the industry needs way more.
- The faculty does help in finding part time and they are always happy to help. The faculty like Erik and Einarson and chi wei are all helpful in finding jobs and help you in every way.
Campus Life
- There are Diwali festivals bonfire nights and Halloween parties .
- All medical facilities are available on campus and library and sports. The major football arena is also available in the buffalo university’s and buffalo bills is very famous.
- The student organisations also include lot of cultural events such as musical night sports activities and pet pleasures where you can pet a dog.????
Part Time Jobs
-
All students are able to secure a TA, RA and DA positions. You just need to apply early and quickly before the positions close. The pay ranges are 10-15$ an hour and other jobs like campus dining and and cds are available.
-
The hourly wages are $ 15/ hour and the maximum hours to work every week is 20 hours a week. It is pretty easy to secure campus part time jobs as you just need to apply on the portal and you will get a response from them in 2 weeks whether you are accepted or not.
-
Typically earn 15: hou. If you are working in the library you will earn 10/hour and it’s pretty easy for students to secure part time while studying: the usual process would be to submitting application via the portal and attending interviews after that they can also work as a research assistant under professors and teaching assistant to improve their CV
Placement
- Around 10% of student accept offer within 6 months of completing their course.
- The average salary range most students can expect can range from 120-150k yearly. They find jobs on LinkedIn and only portals such as monster and Glassdoor. Previous batchmates got jobs in ibm and apple. And their roles included semiconductor device engineer and cad engineers.
- Major companies that hire graduates for our university include cadence, bogwarner, apple etc.
Accommodation
- I opted for off campus accommodation. Rent was 500$ monthly. Facilities included are the facilities in a normal house. No challenges encountered by finding this accommodation.
- I would recommend to stay on campus in Amherst manor or in off campus houses as the landlords are pretty good as well.
- Accommodation is 15 minutes from north campus and most stay in south. If you are lucky you will get house in north campus and be sure to apply first.
Exams
- I took the gre and Toefl exam and it’s more than enough to get admit in buffalo university.
- You will need your LOR, your statement of purpose and CV to file your admission to buffalo university. No interview is required for this application but be sure to mention all your credentials in your statement of purpose.
- Face to face interview is required during the i20 process and acceptance of i20.
Fees
- For the entire course the fees come to 40000$ and it is charged semester wise.
- Monthly I spend around 500$ including and rent and groceries. Transportation is covered by my apartment itself.
- The rent of the house is 450 and the groceries comes to 50$ monthly. Sometimes I go to restaurant the amount comes to 550 if I go to expensive restaurants.
Scholarship
- In this university scholarships and grants are available only to university phd students.
- Masters students do not receive aid or grants. No batchmates of mine received scholarship grants and this is because this university only funds phd students. But one particular student required financial aid therefore the university provided a scholarship for that student in the form of financial help
