Santa Clara university - A student's journey

I have applied to 6 colleges: Aston University, University of Birmingham, Exeter University, Liverpool university, University of Edinburgh, queen Mary university London. 4 of them accepted me by giving a conditional offer letter. I was rejected by university of Edinburgh. I think the reason I applied pretty much late, merely 3 weeks before the application closed QS rankings and reasonable fees with scholarships: I was given 8 lakhs off as a scholarship; that was one of the decisions. The modules were also the reason I selected the university. I researched online whether these modules help me with the course I selected and whether I will be industry-ready after completing this course. Santa Clara University (Accepted Admission) Arizona state university (got acceptance) New Jersey institute of technology (got acceptance) stevens institute of technology (got acceptance) University of Maryland - Baltimore County (got acceptance) UC Santa Cruz (got rejected) I think the reason for rejection from UC Santa Cruz was because I applied on the date right before the deadline. Prestigious universities like UC can give preference to early candidates and I missed out on that opportunity. From all the colleges I got an acceptance from, I liked Santa Clara University primarily because I wasn't restricted to a particular course track and had a lot of flexibility in taking the course I want. Graduation requires having 46 credits which ultimately means that I can take up a lot of good and important courses. The university is also in the bay area which has weather similar to Mumbai (where I am from) and since I had to spend two years (and more) here, I didn't want to go to other states where weather is pretty harsh. Additionally, it's in the Silicon Valley which can be a big big advantage as you get to attend a lot of events locally, visit company campuses which can be a good thing overall. For admission at SCU, the things required are: - GRE, TOEFL scores - WES Evaluation - Undergrad transcripts - only SOP There are no minimum score requirements mentioned and the admission is done pretty smoothly. No hassle. The university also gives out its decision for your admission within a week so it's easier to make a decision going forward. The only thing is that to confirm your seat, you are given 14 days to pay the deposit (which is later cut from the fees you pay) and so you need to decide on it quickly I applied for the Fall 2023 intake. I applied to 12 universities. North Carolina State University, Admitted Santa Clara University: Admitted University of Massachusetts Amherst: Rejected (medium GPA was the rejection reason) Indiana University Bloomington, Admitted University of Pennsylvania-Rejected (medium GPA was the rejection reason) Arizona State University, Admitted Syracuse University: Admitted Georgia State University: rejected (medium GPA could have been the reason) Northeastern University - Rejected (Applying late was the main reason for rejection.) University of California Davis: rejected (lack of research publications could be the reason) University of San Francisco: Rejected after interview (answered a question incorrectly in the interview with Professor) Stony Brook University: Rejected (medium GPA) I chose this university due to its proximity to big tech companies and its strategic location in the heart of the SF Bay Area. The idea was that this would make it easier to get interview calls. The admissions process included submitting GRE and TOEFL scores, a WES report of UG transcripts, applying with a statement of purpose, recommendation letters and the application fee. The eligibility criteria are a minimum TOEFL and undergraduate GPA. GRE, TOEFL and IELTS are all accepted and for the minimum scores in these exams to be accepted into Santa Clara University, you can visit their website. I had applied to 10 colleges; I had received admits from Santa Clara University, Arizona State University, Northeastern, Rochester Institute of Technology, and the University of Florida. Was rejected from the University of Southern California, UT Austin, Texas A&M, NYU Courant, and UT Dallas. The reason I was rejected from these colleges was due to my mediocre GRE score and not hailing from a Tier 1 university from my undergrad. I chose Santa Clara University over the other admits since I had gotten admit here for MS CS, where in better colleges from my list like the University of Florida, Northeastern, & ASU I had received admits for MS AI, MS CS (Miami), and MS SE, respectively. I opted this university because of the area it was situated in. Bay area is known for its technology industry so it was easier for me to settle down here. The admission process was purely online. Overall I would say it’s a win win situation as my university is very well recognised here in the Silicon Valley & the alumni’s help a lot! The location is pretty good with almost similar weather conditions as in India, it is a bit exorbitant in terms of location but other than that everything seems to be fine....Read More

My overall experience is good so far, there’s a good learning curve- both personally and professionally, when you are in a foreign country with limited resources at your disposal.
