Course Curriculum

8

  • 3 core subjects are mandatory which are DAA, CA and OS
  • I’ve taken DAA and OOPS this quarter, DAA did not have a project it is more therotical
  • But OOPS has a project that I am currently working on!
  • I’m not sure about the rest of the courses
  • The number of classes depends on the subject enrolled in, typically 2 hours per day for 4 days a week
  • 30 students in a class
  • Ratio is 50:50 indians: chinese

Admission Experience

  • Applied to 3 colleges
    • 1. CSU Chico
    • 2. Csu east bay
    • 3. Santa clara
  • I had shortlisted SJSU as well but didn’t apply
  • Got admits from 2 colleges, csu chico and santa clara
  • Got rejected from csu east bay
  • I got rejected because of my low gpa in the bachelorsI mailed them about my job experience and I would be a great fit for the college but they wanted a higer gpa
  • Requirements were
    • Needed to get my undergrad scores verified from wes, 1 sop and relevant study in CS
    • Applied on the college portal with my sop and wes scores
    • GRE and IELTS/TOFEL are required
  • The admission experience was smooth, standard, and nothing complicated as such!
  • The only thing is we need to get WES, which takes like a month! That is something to take care of!
  • I applied for fall 2024, so that I get internship in the summer Also, there are more job openings, one of which I get close to my graduation, which is in the month of May.
  • The application process takes a day, given the wes scores are ready as well as sop
  • The deadline for me was june 2024, which was good
  • I applied around march and got my admit in a couple of weeks

Faculty

8

  • At max, 30 students are enrolled in a course! So the student-to-faculty ratio is 1:30 but not all courses are full.
  • The content is decent the facilities are pretty good! But students need to learn leetcode in order to secure a job or crack an interview
  • I know of none of the faculties that assist students in finding a job.
  • Prof. Navid teaches oops and is a good teacher; he focuses more on projects than exams.

Campus Life

10

  • Our college has only 1 campus
  • It has a library, a table tennis table a gym, swimming pool, sauna, basketball field, a tennis court, and a football field.
  • Indian students have a swades club which celebrates all major indian festivals
  • There are sports clubs but it would be difficult to get into a as team as the athletes are pretty good at their job

Part Time Jobs

  • Getting a TA/RA job in the first quarter is tough due to competition and faculty rapport needs. Students on F-1 visas can work up to 19 hours/week and full-time during holidays. Campus cafes, often hiring Indian students, pay $18/hour, while TA/RA roles pay $22/hour. Café jobs are easier to secure early on, offering income and flexibility for balancing studies.
  • Students typically working in the cafe called Benson earn 18 dollars per hour; the maximum they are allowed to work is 19hr per week so it depends on how much the student wants to spend his time working in the cafe and studying. It is a hectic job to have to stand all the time. It is easy to get a job at benson I had a referral, but formally, need to mail to the cafe manager and he/she takes an interview Based on the interview, the student will get a job.

Placement

8

  • Not sure of the exact data but this year since the market is a little off, 50% of them secured a job.
  • Average salary depends on the job location; if the job location is Santa Clara or Bay Area, then one can expect anywhere from 120k to 250k a year.
  • Students usually find jobs through LinkedIn.
  • Palo Alto networks, Amazon, Google, Salesforce, ServiceNow, and Apple sometimes.

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

  • Off campus, I used WhatsApps groups of last batch to reach out to seniors to get my accommodation
  • Monthly rent is 4000$ for a 2b2b apartment. The society has a swimming pool, a hot water pool to relax in, and a small gym.
  • Reach out to seniors on LinkedIn; they would have a spot for incoming students, or the apartments have a website and students can book their flat from india.
  • My apartment is 500-600 m from college

Exams

  • Gre and TOEFL/IELTS are required to get into the college
  • WES is one important document that is required by the college to get into! Apart from wes, SOP is required I don’t remember exactly but lor is not required by the college because I applied to 2 more college I don’t remember if I had submitted my LORs for this college but I’m certain LORs are required by the other 2 colleges I applied to.

Fees

  • The fees keeps changing every year
  • Its 1250$ per credit and we are supposed to take 46 credits throughout 2 years of masters
  • which amounts to 57,000 + we need to have medical insurance, which is 4000$ per year so the total fees including insurance is 65k usd
  • I live off campus; rent for a 2B2B anywhere nearby is around 4000$.
  • Monthly expenses apart from rent are $300-350.

Scholarship

  • Scholarships are very rare as this is a private institution
  • I didn’t receive any scholarships
  • Some of my friends have scholarships, which is 2000–3000 dollars on average
  • But I have heard students getting scholarships worth $10,000; that is the maximum I know of
  • I don’t think there is a criteria to get a scholarship but it might be based on gre score
