Course Curriculum

8

  • The course curriculum is not very rigorous I would say, the only thing is we need to adapt to the new learning culture at the US where you have to give continuous quizzes and complete assignments.

  • The course structure totally depends on the professor where he/she can take exams or give only projects and assignments.

  • But yes the courses here are more application based where you have to continuously do and learn new things

Admission Experience

  • 1. University of Houston, Texas (Shortlisted)
    2. California state university, Long Beach (Admitted)
    3. San Diego state University (Admitted)
    4. University of New Haven (Admitted)
    5. University of North Texas (Admitted)

  • I did not receive any rejections from the college I had applied to 5 colleges and got admit from all of them. I was very inclined towards the colleges in texas because the weather here is good compared to other states and also the living expenses are quite less.
  • The reason to chose this University was that I received a conditional scholarship of 50% tuition fees for all semesters if I maintain 3.75 CGPA all over the Masters time.
  • The process is same with TOefl above 80 and GRE was not mandatory and I had a strong profile with 2.5 years experience in the Data industry. I did not face any challenges in the entire process.
  • I applied for fall 2024 intake where I started my process 1 year back. I gave my Toefl exam on September 2023 and after that started the process of collecting the transcripts from the college, My SOP, LOR and resume preparation started in October 2023 itself and I was ready with all the documents be the November 2023 and I completed all my applications by December 2023. I started to get responses from February 20224 and confirmed the college by April 2024 and completed the visa process on June 2024.

Class Schedule

8

  • The average class strength is approximately 60-80 which depends on the courses taken by the students.
  • The indian student population is obviously high in almost all the US universities , in our class there are almost 70% indians with other native students and some from China, nepal and vietnam.
  • The teaching methodology is mix or theory and practical questions where the professor tries to solve an industrial problem statement.

Campus Life

10

  • My college has a total 4 campuses, which includes Main campus, sugarland, downtown and clearlake, the campuses are very huge and it has all the amenities in them, some lectures take place at different campus where the professor is available.
  • The college arranges and celebrates all the Indian festivals and makes indian food available in all the events which is a very unique initiative by the college

Part Time Jobs

  • There are many on campus opportunities in the ON Campus job for RA /TA and GA opportunities. THere is actually a portal named Cougar pathway which is a HH college job finder there you need to apply for positions and you also need to co-ordinate with the professors, write them mails regarding you are interested to work with them or also there are many dining and desk jobs available where you can get into.

  • Students usually get paid around 12-15 dollars per hour which approximately sums upto 1000 dollars per month, this can help the student to manage their living expenses and also save some amount of money if possible. Its usually a bit difficult to get a job in the first semester, but we need to continuously try and try to make connections with everyone which can help to get a job

Placement

6

  • Almost 80-90% people secure a job within 6 months of completing their course as the pay scale can vary on many factors and location plays a very important role in it on an average the start salary range is from 80-85K dollars per annum.
  • The placement experiences I would say is average. Since Houston is the energy hub there are more opportunities for oil and gas companies compared to IT companies.

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

  • I have opted for an Off campus accommodation named Stratford apartments which is approximately 45 mins away from the college.
  • BUt the best part is the rent is very cheaper here where a 2bhk flat is almost 1400 dollars and can be easily shared by 4-5 people, all the indian student community is very strong here so it never feels away from home and the bus commute is also very good and has a frequency in every 10 mins

Exams

  • For the Admission in my my college and program, very basic documents are required. You need to have a TOEFL score above 80 or IELTS>7.5.
  • THe GGRE is not mandatory but will help to boost your profile. SOP is required, 3 LORs and Resume copy. Y
  • ou also require the transcripts copy of your Undergrad college and need to pay the application fees of 80 dollars. There was no interview process for the application

Fees

  • Each semester, the fee for graduate studies at ranges from $10,000 to $13,000, depending on the course of study and specific program requirements. This cost encompasses a variety of essential items beyond just tuition, providing a package that supports both educational and personal well-being on campus.
  • Tuition Fees: Tuition is the primary component of the semester fees, covering the cost of academic instruction, access to faculty, course materials
  • Medical Insurance: Health insurance is another significant inclusion within the semester fee. Many universities, especially for international students, mandate health insurance as a prerequisite
  • Additional Amenities: The semester fee also typically includes access to campus facilities, such as recreation centers, counseling services, and wellness programs

Scholarship

  • I received the Dean's scholarship which is a conditional scholarship where I have to maintain 3.75 CGPA in all semesters so that I can receive the 50% off from the tuition fees like now for example if the tuition fees is 9K dollars for everyone, I'll need to pay only 4.5K dollars for the the tuition fees.
  • This is applicable on for the students in The Engineering college, The students in The Business and Management school are not eligible for this scholarship.
