Tips to enhance your application
- To enhance your admission application, focus on writing a clear and goal-oriented statement of purpose that highlights your academic background, relevant projects or work experience, and why you're interested in that specific programme.
- Tailor your resume to showcase education, skills, internships, and key achievements concisely.
Admission Experience
- I chose Stevens Institute of Technology because of its strong academic reputation, especially in tech and engineering, and its great location near New York City. The hands-on learning approach and strong career support really stood out to me. My experience has been positive challenging academics, helpful professors, and a vibrant student life with many opportunities to grow both professionally and personally.
Class Schedule
- Most weeks have 3-4 classes, each lasting 1.5 to 3 hours, usually scheduled between 9 AM and 9 PM.
- Class sizes range from 20 to 40 students. In my course, there are many Indian students.
- On average, I spend 2-3 hours daily on assignments and self-study. The university also allows flexibility in selecting course timing during registration.
Faculty
- The faculty members in my course are knowledgeable, supportive, and approachable. the faculty-to-student ratio is good, allowing for personalised attention and easy interaction during and after class.
- Professors are generally open to questions and willing to help outside class hours. some of the best faculty are those who bring industry experience into the classroom, making concepts more practical and relatable.
Campus Life
- Stevens has a single main campus located in Hoboken, New jersey, with a beautiful view of the New York City skyline. The campus is well-equipped with modern facilities like a large library, gym, sports fields, student center, and on-campus health services.
- There are many student-run clubs covering tech, culture, entrepreneurship, and the arts.
Part Time Jobs
- Indian students at stevens often prefer on-campus part-time jobs such as teaching assistantships, research assistantships, and roles in administrative offices or the library.
- These positions typically pay between $15 and $23 per hour, depending on the role and department. Securing these jobs can be competitive; students usually apply through the university's Workday system or the Student Employment Office.
- At Stevens Institute of Technology, students can work up to 20 hours per week during academic sessions and up to 35 hours during breaks. Teaching and Research Assistantships (TA/RA) are competitive and typically awarded to students with strong academic records.
- On-campus jobs, such as library assistants or administrative roles, generally pay between $14.66 and $23 per hour.
Placement
- Stevens offers strong full-time job prospects after graduation. For the class of 2024, 96.8% of graduates secured employment or pursued further education within six months, with an average starting salary of $84,800.
- Top-performing programmes include Cybersecurity and Quantitative Finance, both boasting 100% placement rates and average salaries of $94,200, respectively. Students typically find jobs through the stevens career centre, internships, co-op programmes, and networking events.
Accommodation
- I am staying off campus. I found my accommodation through Facebook student groups, WhatsApp housing chats, and websites like Zillow and Apartments.com. The process was a bit challenging at first due to high rent prices in Hoboken and the need to find reliable roommates. it took some time to compare options, contact landlords, and finalise a place that fit my budget.
