What Students Say
Likes
- Professors are very friendly and helpful in many ways.
- More and in-depth exposure towards the academics(tools and technologies) which is not available in India.
- Really nice campus but I have no idea on campus life since I didn't accommodate on campus.
Dislikes
- There is no concept of on campus placements in the US since it's only applicable in India.
- Administrative department and ISSS are not all helpful in many ways.
- Searching for a job in the US is hectic, not worth it and you won't find any help from the institution and from the faculty.
Course Curriculum
- Apart from one or two courses, every other courses are good and up-to-date with the trending technologies.
- Depends on the Teaching faculty members.
Admission Experience
- Stevens Institute of Technology - I chose this university because they mentioned on their website that the Applied AI major had 99% of job placement guarantee, which is not true.
- Apart from that, NJ hosts many Indians, and it's very lively compared to the other states.
- Indian grocery stores and restaurants are swamped surrounding the location, which makes life easier for Indians, especially students.
- Overall, I have both negative and positive views, but if you need my opinion on coming to the US to pursue higher education, then please don't because it is not at all worth the money.
Faculty
- Faculty student ratio- not disclosed by the university or department.
- One of the strongest aspects of Stevens is how approachable and supportive the faculty and staff are. Professors maintain regular office hours, respond promptly to emails, and are always open to discussing projects and research opportunities.
- Names of the professors who made an impact on me: Kevin Ryan, Jiarui Li, Jingrui Li, Samaneh Jafari, Zhonghao Yang
Campus Life
- The infrastructure is good with a beautiful view of the New York skyline and the Hudson River.
- Only one main campus.
- Very few extracurricular activities for graduate students.
- Research facilities are very good, but not focused on actual real-time projects.
- Sports facilities: Tennis courts, swimming pool, bowling alley
- FinTech labs are very good, so I would suggest you at least take one of the FinTech courses to get really good exposure since the faculty in FinTech are highly qualified.
Part Time Jobs
- Very less part time jobs on campus, so it's difficult to secure. TA, RA, and DA positions are completely hired by the professors. Max 20 hours of on-campus work is allowed. In NJ, min wage for on-campus jobs is $14.49.
Placement
- Less than 1% of graduate students actually get a full-time paying job; the rest of them enroll in unpaid NGO work to stop the EAD clock.
- Avg salary is based on the location of the job: for freshers - 70k-90k
- Mid- 90k-140k
- Seniors- 140k+
- Have to get referrals to get a callback because blindly applying to jobs won't get any callbacks, even for 1500-2000 applications.
Accommodation
- Zillow and WhatsApp groups to find suitable accommodations. 2 bedroom 1 bathroom house costs $2100 per month at least.
- Groceries cost around $100-150 per month per individual. Gas electricity bill is $60-120 per month for an individual

- My score - IELTS: 7.5 . GRE: 308
