What Students Say
Likes
- UNC maily focuses on good research students and it helps a lot of phd students with full funding to reach the research goals.
- It hosts a good number of career fairs in each semester, to my knowledge there are maily 3 career fairs for spring, and also no. of career fairs vary by the course.
- It has good campus facilites library which is almost open everyday till 10Pm, and also we can rent laptops, ipads etc for our studies.
Course Curriculum
- The syllabus is updated, and new courses will be added depending on the requirements.
- There will be some practical assignments with proper deadlines, as I had an assignment related to the course, but not in the university, as it is a construction course.
- Mostly, 2 classes will be scheduled in a day for each department. If we take a course from another department, it may vary. The usual timings for the master's in construction are from 4 pm to 7 pm, depending on the course and professor.
- The average number of students is about 10, as before there used to be around 20-30 indian international students, but due to current reasons, the number of students are very less.
Admission Experience
- I chose this university because one of my friends studies here, but I chose this university because it offers me two courses in one single major, so I chose this university.
- It also gives admission fast, as I got my admission within a week after the application.
- The admission was typical for most other universities.
- There are no GRE requirements other than IELTS 6.5, as I don't know about other English test minimum scores
Faculty
- In my experience, the faculty are very helpful in our course and knowledgeable too, as in my course, they are not only the faculty, but they were working professionals before. Professor Jake Smithwick and Wayne Goff.
Campus Life
- I don't know much about the extracurricular activities, but it has good research facilities, libraries, and a gym.
Part Time Jobs
- $10/ Hr, depending upon the type of job. There will be posters on the campus and also online postings. 20 Hours per week. It is very easy to secure an on-campus job. You can assume it as 10%.
Placement
- To my knowledge, almost every international student can secure employment on campus within a month, which is 100%. There are plenty of options to get a part-time job.
- The average salary is around $60K to $70K in my program.
- It's the typical process for every country to connect in linkedin, apply on career portals, and some can get to career fairs, networking, etc. We need to be aware of the situation; nobody is gonna help us in this situation, and nobody gives a job easily unless you have a good amount of skills. It's tough to get a job after graduation if you don't take them seriously.
- We need to apply as much as possible.
Accommodation
- For me, it was easy, as one of my friends helped me to find the accommodation. I didn't use any other groups. The monthly rent is around $1600, and for utilities like water & electricity, around $200-$300, depending upon the season.
- In the winter season, the electricity bill becomes more costly as it can move to more than 100% in a month.
Exams
- The only requirement is the min english scores for master's.
Fees
- For my major, it is around $15K per semester
