What Students Say
Likes
- Affordability, compared to similar universities.
- It is located to prime location with good transport facility.
- We have Classes mostly 2 days per week.
Dislikes
- Lower Research, national ranking is also low with high acceptance rate.
- Almost zero on-campus part time.
- Full time faculty is low mostly part time faculty.
Course Curriculum
- Very easy curriculum, almost all assignments are Word doc-based, nothing practical, mostly theoretical. I felt that this course I'm taking is just to update my status or something to help me search for a job, not to facilitate any learning process.
- It is for someone who is looking to cut down costs, and have easy college to pass and is not serious about learning, and an easy admission process.
Admission Experience
-
I applied to the following universities:
- Montclair University - Admitted
- Rowan University - Waitlisted(Reason- wait for spring, can admit in fall, yes, this course only takes students for spring, not fall- here I applied to Bioinformatics)
- University of Texas Arlington - Rejected(As I'm from Biotechnology Bachelors, not accepting for Computer Science masters. My opinion is if I had attempted the GRE and submitted a score, then yes, I would've got accepted)
- Wilmington University - Admitted.
- Majorly Affordability, I was accepted to Montclair's Master's in CS, but add pre requisites i could not afford that much. I felt Wilmington University was low-cost, with low living expenses in Delaware.
- For Wilmington, they need SOP, WES evaluation Cgpa to GPA, IELTS or TOEFL score, resume thats all. They will give a reply in a week. If your IELTS is less than 6 or 6, they tell us to take up extra classes for English. Wilmington gave the fastest reply in a week, challenges is Wes evaluation, which takes time, almost a month in India, it costed my around 200$.
- Applied to the 2023 Spring, it was immediately after my graduation, so I made the decision. The admission process took almost 30-40 minutes, mostly it took for Wes' evaluation, which is not the college admission process, and after applying, they gave me a decision in one week. Its very fast than any university in the USA.
- This university's acceptance rate is almost 100; you get admit just if you submit all the required documents.
Class Schedule
- In a day, most probably you will have one class, sometimes two, not more than that, weekly only one or two classes, and also you will have a chance to attend online out of 10 classes, you can attend 3 online.
- Timing is mostly in the afternoon, 20 is the maximum number of students, and on average, there would be 15 students in a class. Indian students are 15 out of 20 students, and other students are also international students; there are no domestic students.
Faculty
- 1:20, this does not effect quality of education. A major drawback is that this college faculty works somewhere; they are part-time faculty here, they don't take their job seriously, and they never answer any doubts. They just make us pass the course, and to assist students, they will have no doubts, as this course is just one Word document away from passing.
- A class or a course takes 6-7 weeks, and we don't have a connection with the faculty at all. They promised to give a referral as they were working in good companies, but no one did in the end.
Campus Life
-
We have around 11 campuses, but we mostly use the main campus. Some classes are held in other campus those are mostly 3 or 4 those are near the main campus.
- Wilmington University
- New Castle campus
- Main Campus.
- Dover
- Brandywine
- No Major festivals or events happen on campus.
- No clubs on campus are only for domestic students involved
- Sports students play baseball.
Part Time Jobs
- No Teaching Assistant (TA), Research Assistant (RA), or Departmental Assistant (DA) positions are available in the university; only part time position available. A student constable with a lot of requirements who only domestic students qualify.
- But the wages per hour are around 17-21. maximum hours allowed 20hrs. Very Difficult to get a part-time job on campus.
- Indian Students cant work offline, but I see many people work outside for 11-13$ per hr pay, no job openings on campus for part-time jobs, and also to do any job legally, is to study at least for 1 year or complete two semesters on campus, and apply for cpt then convert into OPT. All companies require work authorization.
- Can work for freelancing and get some money, but can't work legally without an EAD card, and also this college does not provide any options, but they have a website called wilmington handhsake u will find some internships, but still need ead card or CPT approval.
Placement
- Almost 5% students secure employment within 6 months of completing their course. Most people who studied with me are unemployed even after a year now, but they managed to get some unpaid jobs on OPT.
- The average salary is around 75k - 100k per annum if they are employed full-time. Mostly, they find jobs using consultancies, mostly Indian, some people through references, and some through job portals. Out of these, I see referrals worked better for most people than consultancies and some consultancies. All apply to information technology jobs and software roles.
Accommodation
- I used many WhatsApp groups from telegram channels and also the Yocket app to find someone to interact with students studying there before going there and finding an apartment or a room to live in.
- The monthly rent was around 350-400, all facilities included, water, electricity. This is so prob with accommodation, as we usually share an apartment with 8-10 students at a time, and also I have almost moved to 4 apartments in 2 years of my master's. My accommodation is 13miles from the college we have to take two buses to reach college.
Exams
- IELTS or TOEFL - Compulsory
- GRE - Optional
- CV - Compulsory
- LOR - Mandatory
- SOP - Mandatory
- There is no interview requirement
Fees
- total fee - 22000$, 100$ for Graduation Day. Credit-based, we have around 36 credits to complete, each costs around 600-700$ varies to location of the course taught and whether the student is domestic or international. Monthly Expenses around 1200$ includes everything, rent, food, phone bill, and all.
- Transportation is 1$ for a bus with a student ID. We can complete the course in 3 semesters by taking an extra course per semester or 4 semesters.
Scholarship
- No Scholarships Available for International Students. Only for Domestic Students.
- No Financial Aid for me.
- And also, college does not have any health insurance, so we need to purchase off-campus.
- No on-campus hostels or dorms for the students, everyone should look for apt outside.
- I did not receive my scholarship. I'm not sure of avg no of students receiving scholarships.
