- The main thing i loved about my college is the professors who are extremely supportive and super approachable ,always ready to guide the students beyond academics.for example my mentor Professor Khouloud Gaaloul has always been a major inspiration in helping me grow in research as well as gaining knowledge
- Secondly the campus life here is so awesome , vibrant and convenient since iam living on campus it makes me easily access library ,labs and study spaces available at the university anytime
- The close student to faculty connection is one of the best parts of UofM dearborn Since its a Smaller campus when compared to other Colleges around the place , we can easily get to know the professors personally which really helps
Dislikes
- The first and foremost thing is the location of the campus which is so remote so nothing is nearby to explore you have to take few busses to visit certain places and buy your essentials
- Secondly i mentioned you have to take busses to go to places but sadly public transportation is poor in dearborn making it hard to commute for essentials without a car
- The academic focus is heavily centered around automotive field so students like me from other specializations like AI ,CS ,and others can find fewer research options that align with their field and interests
Placement
- I could say 60% secures a job after graduation, but this may vary cause this purely depends on the market and economic conditions, and also it depends on the course as well
- Upon graduation, the full-time students can get paid 35-40$ per hour while working for almost 40hours per week
- Students mass apply through job portals and do networking through LinkedIn. Also, some students have really good contacts before coming here, so they use them to get an offer
- Placement experiences currently for MS in AI are not so good right now cause of many issues going on with visa sponsorship, but however automotive engineers are getting hired really fast, and placement experience for them is really good in Dearborn
- Some of my friends are doing software engineering internships at Fetch AI, and some are doing automotive engineering internships as well
- Major companies that hire graduates from my programs are FORD, Fetch AI, and DTE. rocket etc.
- I opted for on-campus housing, which is at the Union, which I booked directly through the online housing portal, and the entire process was smooth
- The rent for my housing, which is a 4x4 private bed and bath, comes around 840$, which includes WIF, electricity, etc Also, we have a 24-hour Gym. ?There were no challenges since I opted for on-campus housing, and the recommendation for future incoming students is to go with the on-campus housing cause there will be no hassle
- The accommodation is right opposite the campus, so it's extremely convenient for me to access the university. Most of the indians don't stay on campus; they stay in Fairlane Meadows, which is another housing company close by to the campus, but not walkable. It's quite far, but the university provides a shuttle for them.

Likes
- The cultural acceptance and activities are beautiful and very homely to any international student
- The faculty are understanding to the needs of student and very accommodating
- The name of university is itself a brand to get placements
Dislikes
- Only downside is being compared to Ann Arbor campus
Placement
- It depends on various factors like field of study current condition of the role they are looking for but it’s a high percentage as of now
- In my program average salary is somewhat 90K - 150K for someone with 1-2 years experience.
- There are campus drives internships and networking with professor who are kind enough to refer students and then online job portals is a classic
- I had friends here; mostly rent is $400 per head living by 5 people in a 2 BHK
Likes
- Small Campus size (more convenience)
- Very affordable tuition fees (with scholarship)
- Very affordable cost of Living at Dearborn, Michigan
Dislikes
- Very less on-campus opportunities (given the small size)
- Might not be suitable for Data Science / Computer Science students as freshers
- Winters can get very cold and dark as early as 5pm
Placement
- Students are eligible for employment only after completing two semesters. The pay range in Michigan for full-time job ranges from $20 per hour to $28 per hour for an internship. Full-time opportunities usually range from $60,000 per annum to 100,000 per annum based on experience and can go above $100,000 if you come with enough experience. Average pay is around $80,000.
- Again getting an opportunity depends on each individuals during the year of fall 23 not many got placed but a decent amount of students I would say got placed in companies like stalantis Ford on contract and other companies include ZF, Daimler, Tesla, Magna, etc.
- There's a student community called Indian graduate student association that was the first point of contact which helped me get accommodation and help to the airport pickups One can reach out to them at umdigsa@gmail.com.
- As I have my channel earlier monthly rent for individual stay is about $800 however shared accommodation can get as low as $390. For $800 you cash furnished apartment in a student elementary shared accommodation however you are just provide with kitchen utilities and the rest apartment is unfurnished.
- With the help of Indian graduate student association the process of accommodation and the airport pickups was extremely streamlined.
- There are some good communities called Fairlane Meadows and Fairlane Woods where majority of students are accommodated and the university shuttle goes through these places.
- These accommodations are within three miles of the university

Likes
- The college has a very diverse student community which helps students learn about different cultures and ideas.
- There are many on-campus opportunities like internships, clubs, and volunteer work that help students grow.
- The curriculum offers a variety of courses, giving students the chance to study what interests them the most.
Dislikes
- Many courses have limited seats, so it’s hard to get into the classes you want.
- There are very few research opportunities and on-campus jobs for students.
- The library and campus transportation are not available on weekends, which makes it hard for students to study or travel.
Placement
- Around 50% of students secure jobs within six months of graduation.
- Graduates usually earn between $25 and $50 per hour, depending on their job role and company.
- Most students rely on platforms like LinkedIn, networking during career fairs, and internships to secure full-time roles.
- I don’t personally know any batchmates who have been placed yet.
- Prominent companies like Target, JP Morgan, KLA, GM, and Tesla are known to hire graduates from the program.
- I chose off-campus accommodation—Fairlane Meadows. I found it through a group on Facebook. Some seniors also helped me to find it.
- The total rent is $2000 per month for the whole apartment. It includes water, electricity, and Wi-Fi. We are four members in the apartment so my share is $500 per month. Apart from that, the groceries cost around $100 each month.
- Finding a good place was not tough. I joined Indian student groups online and that helped me connect with other students who need roommates.
- For future students, I recommend reaching out to seniors on LinkedIn. They can guide well.
- My accommodation is 2 miles from campus. It is easy to commute to the college with the college shuttle bus. Most Indian students are staying here in Fairlane Meadows. This makes it feel like home.

- Culture is amazing over here.
- Faculties are really good and they also teach in Ann Arbor.
- Field job opportunities are really good.
Dislikes
- Lesser on campus opportunities.
- Campus is little small than expected.
- The funds are very less for researches.
Placement
A full-time job depends on your abilities and does not depend on your college. They do have career fairs and really good companies do come at the career fairs but everything dependent on your abilities.
For Indian students, you can connect to the Indian Graduate Student Association (IGSA) to get off-campus accommodation which is cheaper than the Union (on-campus accommodation). You can connect with them through Facebook. If you want to stay at the Union, you can go to the website and do what is needed.
Likes
- I like that student to professor ratio is lower.
- I like that the campus strength is not too much.
- There is campus transportation that is easily available.
Placement
There are good research opportunities in my college but I am not very aware of the placement situations as I just started my semester.
I always wanted to do a master's, and I am passionate about AI, and US is well known for this course, so researched and applied to 5 colleges and got into 3, out of these colleges, I considered a lot of factors and decided to go to University of Michigan-Dearborn due to various reasons.
Likes
- The university is spoon-feeding us every single thing right from picking us up from our flats to providing unlimited groceries twice a month. The perks that we have been getting from the university in terms of academics and clubs are at their highest levels.
Dislikes
- There's nothing I really dislike about my university at this very moment. The only con I would like to mention is that we cannot get an on-campus job until we complete our first semester. Only a few very lucky people can become Research Assistants in the first semester.
Placement
The research opportunities in AI are extensive here. I am currently working as a Research Assistant (RA) for 2 professors, Dr.Srijita Das and Dr.Kais Riani. To be eligible to become an RA, one has to study here for a semester. Given I have a decent research profile and had a proper interview with the professors, they have agreed to allow me to work under them. In general, when there was no recession, it is said that the students had really good placements here. Due to the current recession, we are currently struggling to find internships and jobs. The companies that come during the Career fairs are hiring Graduate students in the Automobile field. I am not aware of the median salaries and student statistics as it has not been disclosed during our orientation.
The US has been a lifelong dream for my father. He wanted to study in the US but could not because of financial restrictions. I made his dream come true. I'm a person who's very much into research and this is the country that tops in this aspect. My university is known to be one of the top institutions in the United States and the program I'll be studying in (AI) is basically the one that has a huge impact on everyone's life in the future. I wanted to be a part of the esteemed university given its rich background which would allow me to live in safe hands.

- Small college - smaller class with fewer students helps prof give more attention to you.
Dislikes
- Michigan's climate can sometimes be extreme
Placement
There's no placement process in US institutions. The student is responsible for it and has to apply to jobs of their interests. There are career fairs on campus where various companies of all interests pitch their business and the students get an opportunity to talk to them and discuss their future and career.
I have a UG background in Mech Engg. and I chose to go ahead with a Masters in Engineering Management course since I did not want to get into a very technical field hence I chose the University of Michigan since it has a good blend of mechanical and business courses without a very technical or Computer science courses. The fees is affordable and they also give a scholarship. The housing and accommodations are also affordable compared to other cities in the US. Texas also is a good option but the summer gets really bad there. University of Michigan Dearborn is a sub-university to the main campus in Ann Arbor which is a highly reputed and expensive university but Dearborn is also a good one in terms of education. There might not be a lot to do outside of academic terms but it's a good place to be. Career-wise - the students have to build their skills and apply for jobs on their own.

- Affordable and best Automotive program in the US. Good location for internships and auto industries
- Job opportunities nearby and the course curriculum. I had the privilege to choose whichever course I wanted, tried out all domains, pretty easy exams, good faculty.
Dislikes
- it is a very small campus and it is not very happening. wish there were better campus engagement activities. I didn't like the fact that the faculty did not care if the students attended the class or not.
Placement
very good opportunities for mechanical/industrial/automotive. not so great for IT in Michigan. Most of the students get placed while studying itself.
Overall a pleasant experience. Lot of indian students, very helpful seniors, good faculty, good place for opportunities.

- It is one of the best college in the Michigan with Good Placements.
- I like several things such as the recreational facilities which consists the fitness center, sports fields, and gyms for students to engage in physical activities and sports. Then there is the 'Mardigian Library' which serves as a primary hub for research and academic study, offering an extensive collection of books, journals, databases, and various resources. In addition, the library provides study areas, computer labs, and support from librarians to assist students in their academic pursuits. Furthermore the health services which offers the health clinics or services to deliver fundamental medical care, health education, and counseling to students. The best thing for transportation is 'Shuttle Service' Which is completely free to students to travel to and from campus.
Dislikes
- Talking about the weakness about the college the Pantry Services are not so good, even the commuting problems, transferring of the credits is another issue. Tuition and Financial Aid is bit challenging like some students may find the cost of tuition and the availability of financial aid to be challenging.
Placement
As its my first semester, the companies have not yet arrived for the placements but to add on there are various big giants like Henry Ford Health, Aflac health Insurance etc.
The University of Michigan places great value on its diverse and inclusive community. Students frequently encounter a variety of perspectives and backgrounds within their peer group, fostering a dynamic and culturally vibrant atmosphere.
