  • The Mechanical Engineering syllabus at Purdue is quite updated and closely aligned with current industry practices and research developments. Courses are regularly revised to incorporate modern tools, computational methods, and emerging technologies, ensuring that students gain relevant and practical knowledge. While the department provides numerous opportunities for industrial exposure and research, students are expected to take the initiative to pursue them.
  • Options such as internships, co-op programmes, undergraduate research projects, and design teams are available, but participation largely depends on individual effort and networking. Typically, students have about two to three classes a day, with lectures scheduled between 8:00 AM and 5:30 PM, depending on the course load and lab sessions. The class size varies—introductory and core courses often have 80 to 150 students, while advanced or elective courses are smaller, usually ranging from 20 to 40 students, allowing for better interaction with professors and peers.

  • I personally took the software development track, where the positive thing is that I have learnt about cloud-based technology (AWS) and also data recovery management as part of cyber security, as well as the course on machine learning I have covered, which is a booming technology in the market.

Fees

  • It's based on course, mostly like 1450$ per course and also we will have health insurance around 1500$ per semester. The total, I mean the entire master's degree, it costs like 25k USD. So total we have 30 credits if don't get GA and 3 courses per semester we must have to take as a foreign student in the first 3 semesters for maintaining the status. Each semester would cost like 6500$*4 for a total of 26k.
  • If we get GA, we need to pay only 1500$ from health insurance, which is only per semester, so for 4 semesters it costs like 6000$ and 33 credits, where we must do a thesis if we get GA in the Computer Science Department for those 3 extra credits we will get.

  • Course curriculum is intermediate level; you get time to do hands-on work and self-learning. If you are loyal with studies, a 4 GPA is easy to get.
  • The curriculum is more practically focused, which helps to learn the subject in depth.
  • The professors make sure that each and every student gets individual attention, and all the labs, assignments, and in-class activities help to make it more understandable than just PowerPoints and theoretical.

Fees

  • Each course is worth 3 credits and each course is approximately $3000. The minimum credits for international students are 9 credits only student with assistantship can have a minimum of 6 credits each semester.
  • The fee charged is semesterly based on the credits you have registered plus exam fees, library fees, and resources.
  • Monthly $500 to $600; rent approx. $400 off campus and on campus is $600. Food and grocery $200 per month is enough.
