Prof Abdul Azeez M is currently the Principal of Kottakkal Farook Arts And Science College, Kottakkal, Kerala. He is an accomplished Professor of Economics with a strong academic background and a passion for teaching and research. His qualifications include an M.Phil. in Economics from Bharathidasan University, Coimbatore and an M.A. in Economics from Aligarh Muslim University. His research interests are in Micro Economics, Public Finance, Development Economics, and Higher Educational aspects. 

With over 30 years of teaching experience, Professor Azeez is known for his engaging and interactive teaching style, which aims to foster critical thinking and a deep understanding of basic concepts among students. As an educational professional, there are several key factors that have kept me connected with the education sector throughout my career. Firstly, the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of the students is highly rewarding. Witnessing their growth, achievements and success gives me immense satisfaction.

The ever-evolving nature of the education sector keeps me engaged and motivated. It allows me to continually learn and adapt to new advancements, technologies and pedagogical approaches. As the principal of Kottakal Farook Arts and Science College, my philosophy of leadership revolves around teamwork and collaboration. I believe in empowering my faculty and staff to take ownership of their responsibilities and contribute to the overall growth and development of the college.

My leadership style is participatory, where I encourage open communication, active engagement, and shared decision-making. I value the diverse perspectives and expertise of my team members, and I create an inclusive environment that promotes innovation, creativity, and continuous improvement. When strategizing about key programs and plans for marketing and administration, I adopt a comprehensive approach that considers both internal and external factors. I also stay updated with the latest trends and developments in the education sector, market demands and technological advancements.

To effectively market our college, I emphasize building strong relations with the local community, industry leaders and educational institutions. My roles and responsibilities extend to both the college and the students. I also look over stakeholder engagement by creating activities to strengthen relationships with educational institutions, industry leaders and their relevant organizations. This will enhance opportunities for collaboration, internships and placements for our students.

What do you think should be the College’s top priority over the next 10 years?

I believe that the college's top priority over the next ten years should be to adopt and respond effectively to the changing needs of education in the world. It may involve embracing technological advancements and developing future ready skills in the students. We also want to work towards making our students globally competent, know about sustainable practices, and have strong collaboration and partnership ties. By focusing on all these priorities, the college will be well-positioned to provide an education that prepares students to excel in the changing landscape of the next decade.

When you first came to Kottakal Farook Arts & Science College, what was your vision for the College? Has it evolved over time, and how far along in implementing that vision are you? 

When I first came to Kottakal Farook Arts & Science College, my vision was to create a centre of excellence that nurtures well-rounded individuals who are equipped with the knowledge, skills and values necessary to thrive in a rapidly changing world. Over time this vision has evolved and become more refined to incorporate the changing needs and aspirations of our students and the community. In implementing this vision, we have made significant progress. We have expanded our economic programs, introduced new innovative teaching methodologies and enhanced the student support services. We have also established collaborations with industry partners, organized internships and placements and integrated experiential learning opportunities into the curriculum.
