Dr. S Altaf Hussain has been working as the Director of Lords Institute of Engineering and Technology, Hyderabad, Telangana. He has done B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from NIT Warangal, M.Tech in Environmental Management from JNTU, PhD in Chemical Engineering from IIT Delhi & JNTUA along with Master of Human Resource Management and Diploma in Industrial Safety from Annamalai University and has also passed Dale Carnegie Teaching Skills Certification as part of his educational qualification. 

He has also delivered 150+ guest lectures in different organizations including Air Force Academy, NITW, JNTU, Sagar Cements, Chettinad Cements, Maha Cements, Aurobindo Pharma, Dr. Reddy’s Labs, Hetero Drugs, Everest Organics etc. And he is specialized in Powder Technology, Occupational Health, Human Resource Development, Industrial Safety, Unit Operations and Processes as well as Debottlenecking process parameters. He has 2 patents on his name, written 2 books and has published 35+ research papers in reputed National and International conferences and Journals. His Dr. all time favorite hobbies are Teaching, Social Service, Investigation.

What inspired you to join Lords Institute of Engineering and Technology?

There is no doubt in the fact that hard work is the key solution for any individual's success. And our Lord's College is doing wonders in all areas be it academic or co-curricular activities, under the leadership of truly hardworking professionals like Vice Chairman Shri Tausif Sir, Chairman Sir Shri Basha Moiuddin Sir, who is also a Chartered Accountant and an Advocate.

So in comparison to other Management of other Engineering colleges, I think Lords Management is enriched with profound professional degrees, which was also the biggest factor of why I joined this wonderful place. And since the time I have joined this college, I am enjoying the work, and we are amongst very few engineering colleges, who are working closely with NEP 2020 by connecting Industries through real time consultancy and research works. 

With a MHRM qualification and rich experience in teaching, what strategies have you implemented to foster academic excellence at your college?

Most of the engineering teachers are well versed with Bloom's Taxonomy, which speaks about learning pedagogies. Therefore, me being the Director of the institution have also implemented Elevated Bloom's Taxonomy, where the student takes care of judicious use of all learning sensors. In addition to this, we have allotted them mentors who regularly guide them to grow on a personal and professional level.

In your opinion, what major challenges are there in the Engineering field and how do you prepare your students to tackle them?

The 2 major challenges I believe are industry connect and effective utilization of advanced technologies. There is a say In Telugu "Guruvu Leni Vidya Guddi Vidya". So, we at Lords have recruited Adjunct faculty members from Industry and keep taking their lectures as well as continuous guidance towards grooming the students and also to meet current industrial and societal requirements.

Being the Director, how do you encourage collaboration and innovation among faculty and students at LIET?

I strongly believe that the buzz word of success is Teamwork and being an academic institution, our policy is to propel activities and accomplish success with everyone's combined efforts.

Therefore, we have been working in collaboration with different prestigious Institutes like IIT Guwahati, NIT Warangal, Osmania University, JNTUA as well as industries like Aurobindo Pharma, Vasant Chemicals, Mylan Laboratories, Dr. Reddy Labs, Sagar Cements etc. Apart from all this, our faculty members and students are regularly involved in all innovative works and some of our bright students have even received International awards and recognitions for their unique discoveries.

How is your institution tackling the challenges which other Engineering education institutions are facing nowadays?

We effectively use our time, resources and technologies to deal with the difficulties we face on a daily or rarely basis. In other words, I would say that our synchronized approach has helped us to deal with unwanted situations.

How do you balance your academic pursuits, administrative responsibilities and personal hobbies?

We all know very well that every individual has 24 hours of time per day. So just like other individuals, I also devote my time to learn new things, fulfill my aspirations and maintain sound health with tasteful hobbies. And that's how I ensure a balance between my academic pursuits, administrative responsibilities and personal hobbies.

How would you ensure that the required changes are incorporated into the curriculum on time as per industry standards?

Our Lord's college is an autonomous institution. And to make sure that we have an industry driven and updated curriculum, our college regularly engages with a senate of experts from academia, industry, R&D as well as pertinent social domains to collect their feedbacks and suggestions and discard old program and include the new ones in curriculum from time to time.

How do you assess the effectiveness of teaching methodologies of your college and improve them as and when required?

For the purpose of enhancing the skills of our faculty members, upgrading their subject knowledge and helping them to discover innovative teaching methodologies, we regularly engage them in Faculty Development Programs. And we measure the effectiveness of our teaching strategies through manual as well as advanced software tools and make sure that the overall learning process remains smooth. 

Last but not the least, we are keen on executing direct industry problems through research projects to refine our educational delivery model.

What are your goals for the bright future of LIET?

We aspire to see our Lord's College on the number one position in Telangana by continuing our quality legacy and offering employment oriented education to ambitious youths of society.
