Dr. A. Grace Selvarani is the HOD of the Computer Science and Engineering department at Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College. She received her Ph.D. in Information and Communication Engineering from Anna University, Chennai in 2011. Upon graduation, she started her career as Lecturer at Karunya University, Coimbatore. She has 22 years of experience in teaching. Her research interests are in Image Processing and Pattern Recognition. She has published twenty research papers in Journals and presented many research papers at National and International Conferences. She has guided many undergraduates and postgraduates in engineering projects. She has received grants from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) under the Research Promotion Scheme (RPS) and Seminar Grant. She is a life member of ISTE.

What are your most important functions in an HoD role?

My functions include ensuring the smooth conduct of class work /lab work as per the timetable and lecture plans and ensuring the availability of equipment and consumables to smooth conduct of laboratory experiments, acting as a liaison between management and faculty members in the department, being instrumental in developing new courses and programs and last but not the least and enabling faculty to do Research and Development (R&D) in cutting-edge technologies with social relevance or industry needs. 


What suggestions would you like to give to the youth?

I would like to suggest the current youth to embrace the power of curiosity and continuous learning. The engineering field is ever-evolving, so stay updated with the latest technological advancements and industry trends. Cultivate a strong network of mentors and like-minded individuals who can guide and inspire you. Take calculated risks, be resilient in the face of challenges, and don't shy away from failure; treat it as a stepping stone to growth. Above all, trust your vision, believe in yourself, and work diligently towards transforming your innovative ideas into reality. Success awaits those who persist with passion and determination. 


What is your leadership philosophy? 

My philosophy revolves around empowering and nurturing individuals to reach their fullest potential. I believe in fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment where diverse perspectives are valued and respected. I prioritize open communication, transparency, and active listening to ensure that everyone's voice is heard.

What are the specific program outcomes of computer science engineering in SREC?

I oversee the program outcomes that we aim to achieve for our students. Our curriculum is designed to equip graduates with a comprehensive skill set and knowledge base. The specific program outcomes of our CSE program include proficiency in fundamental concepts of computer science, ability to design and implement software systems, competence in analyzing and solving complex computational problems, proficiency in using modern tools and technologies, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, strong communication and interpersonal skills, understanding of ethical and professional responsibilities, and readiness to adapt and learn in a rapidly evolving technological landscape. By focusing on these outcomes, we ensure that our graduates are well-prepared for successful careers in the field of computer science engineering.
