Dr. A. Murugarajan is currently a Professor and Head of the Department of Robotics and Automation at Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College, Coimbatore. He received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai. He has obtained his Masters's Degree in Industrial Engineering (University Gold Medalist) and Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (with distinction) from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. Also, he has completed MBA in Operations Management at IGNOU, New Delhi.
He has 19 years of academic and 5 years of research experience. His major fields of interest are in the areas of Mechanical Measurements and Metrology, Optimization techniques in Engineering and Operations Management, Predictive data analytics, Machine Tool Metrology using sensors, and natural fibre composites manufacturing.
He has published twenty-four research papers in reputed International Journals and Conferences. He has been associated with industrial consultancy projects by the SREC innovation centre. He is a technical member and reviewer of two International Journals. He is currently guiding five research scholars and one PhD thesis awarded under him. He has been invited as chairperson and resource person in various institutions' Conferences/Symposiums and Workshops. He is actively involved in the NBA accreditation process and is a program facilitator for the NBA Outcome-based assessment.

What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?
My roles and responsibilities towards the students are multifold. Firstly, I ensure the development and delivery of the curriculum cover all essential theoretical concepts and practical skills. I oversee the faculty so they are following quality teaching methods. Additionally, I organize workshops, guest lectures, and industry visits to enhance students' exposure and learning. I facilitate research opportunities, project guidance, and internship placements to nurture their practical expertise. I aim to create a supportive and inspiring environment that empowers students to excel in the field of robotics.
What are the benefits and career options after pursuing this course?
Pursuing a course in robotics offers numerous benefits and opens up a wide range of career options. Graduates can explore opportunities in industries such as manufacturing, automation, healthcare, aerospace, and entertainment. With a strong foundation in robotics, students can work as robotics engineers, automation specialists, mechatronics engineers, or research scientists. The field also offers prospects in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and computer vision. Robotics professionals are in high demand due to the growing need for automation and advanced technologies.
What are the types of projects that the students are working on through this program?
In our college, we give a lot of importance to project-based and practical learning in robotics. We focus on projects like autonomous robotics, where students develop robots capable of navigating and making decisions independently using sensors, algorithms, and AI techniques.
There are also projects involving designing and implementing robotic systems for industrial applications, optimizing processes, and improving efficiency. Some work on projects that focus on developing robotic arms and grippers capable of manipulating objects with precision, including tasks like pick and place, assembly, and manipulation in complex environments. Our students also explore projects involving unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), developing autonomous flight capabilities, aerial mapping, surveillance, and payload delivery systems.

Firstly, we focus on a balanced approach that combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on practical training, enabling students to apply concepts to real-world scenarios.
